- 11th March 1979. Stroud, Gloucestershire. UK
Following the final day of public service, the last two man operated bus in the Stroud valleys, is hired by a group of enthusiasts for a final trip round most of the routes it had operated over.
The Lodekka Bristol FLF had many unique features, including radiators either side of the destination board.
I completed this film in 1980, and it was later screened in Gouda, Holland, with Dave and Pat Tritton representing Cotswold Cine Club (of Stroud) at an international amateur film festival organised by the "Het Toverlint" club (the magic ribbon).
camera : Canon 512XLE Super 8mm. Kodachrome 40.
Thank you for reminding me of how old I really am! 😲
Great to see the Bristol Lodekka. For me, this is the most beautiful bus that has ever been designed. Loved going to the bus station at Chelmsford in Essex when we visited our relatives.
Taken out of service much too early be for there time only 13 years in some cases
Wonderful nostalgic piece of film.
A lovely film, you couldn't beat that throaty growl of a Bristol BVW engine.
Bristol - a great company!
How things have changed..a British built bus trailed by British built cars. I grew up in Crewe and these Lodekkas were the buses i grew up with. The front loader in the video was not as nippy as the preceding rear loader from memory.
I think the first car following is a 2 stroke Wartburg Knight
It's nice to see good film footage from this time. I remember turning six in March 1979 when my mother informed me the night before.
Great to see Leyland Nationals in such pristine unmolested condition.
We have a suburb called Randwick in Sydney, best known for it's racecourse.
.
Leyland nationals went on and on into the 90s and beyond after deregulation in the mid 80s ,kept a fair few private companies going
WOW a tonic to see Spaceships, RE,s FLF,s Nationals and old Jumbo Strouds AEC Matador Breakdown Wagon, the FLF 6B used for the last trip, sounded as if someone emptied a bottle of Benzodiasapem in the fuel tank. FHU 59D OH GOD she is awesome, an animal of an FLF. Now in 2023 Stroud Depot of Slavecoach is all Slugs ,Tellytubbies, Motorised Tesco Margerine Tubs, and a couple of Cornflake Packets thrown in for good measure.
Why do they call MW,s spaceships
As a kid I wished we had these kind of buses in London, forward entrance, forward entrance fascinated me
there was a rear entrence version as well some sort of front but a bit shorter and a reat entrance but with automatic doors
Arthur..Arthur...anyway nice footage , love checking out the other vehicles on the road at that time too 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant filming Robert
lovely film
never seen round west yorks apart from staff buses for double two shirts wakefield
9:50 interesting to see a Wartburg 353 made in East Germany driving behind the bus😮
Around that time there was a Wartburg Knight for sale in lower high street, Cheltenham. it was very low priced.
I remember travelling from Gloucester to Bristol on one.
I remember going to school on them
At 3.14 on the video he says it is powered by a Bristol engine this is not correct the fBristol FLF,S were powered with GARDENER 6lxb engines
Thanks for the information. Gardner engines are superb.
Ooooo! Mr Parker!
Year I. Was born
Was that bus saved Robert ? Lovely video thank you 👍
I don't know, but someone in the local transport group may know.
