- Use it as a tree saver, a rock anchor, and even a ground anchor. In this video, we show you how to effectively use the Deadman as a ground anchor. Learn more: www.deadmanoffroad.com
In Australia we don't use fancy contraptions like that ground anchor, we just bury the spare wheel with the winch cable / rope tied to the wheel. Works just as effectively. :)
That's great! We did a side-by-side test with a spare tire and the Deadman held 2x the weight at the same depth. So that means you can dig a shallower hole with the Deadman, if you don't need a lot of weight. Plus, since we use a 80lb 35" wheel mounted high, it's nice not having to lift that thing on and off of the vehicle. :-)
You have a great product I was just being facetious :) On another 4 x 4 video there were some people from the U.S. telling us Aussie blokes that Bull Bars make the cars look ugly and suggested hitting "Imaginary Roos" LOL Obviously they had not driven across the Nullabor where it is carnage, and roos are the least of your problem. Huge Camels walk out in front of your car.
Ataman Atlas ouch! Not sure we’ve ever heard that about Aussies, but they’re becoming more common here, so that’ll probably change anyway. One of our trucks has the bars, and the other, well, we wish we’d added them. 😉
Hmmm could be a couple good antifa solutions here. Tie the deadman between two rigs to get them all or use the bull-bar on a few.
Ataman Atlas sounds like a good idea
Always call miss utility 811 before digging 😂
Hahaha just called 811 today for a sewer dog! funny
An amazing solution to a problem that has hundreds of other, more practical and versatile, solutions.
Those are some sweet jeeps you guys have and I wouldn't mind having this stored in my jeep as well.
Looks like a nice and easy to stow solution.
Nice! Sand anchors are not a new idea though. They've been used in holding huge show kite to the ground that have hundreds & thousands of pounds of pull in some cases, I'm glad someone decided to try it out in the off-road community!
A fabric dead man is a great idea for sea walls! These new synthetic fabrics would last forever!
Great presentation with good explanations of variables like different soils!
Thanks for posting !
I'd use my Pull-pal and be home before these guys got thru digging their hole.
+twotwentyswift we’re not trying to replace the PP. The Deadman is best understood as a multi-purpose winch anchor for just about any terrain (rocks, trees, dirt, etc). When you’re on the trail, having gear that can play multiple roles provides a margin of safety. 🤙🏽
twotwentyswift dumb idea
The Deadman is good in rocks??? Yeah if you have blasting caps or a backhoe to dig them out, lol. And wouldn't it be easier to use the tree as a winch point than to dig a hole in front of it? LMAO
If you think the Pull-pal is a dumb idea, you've never been off road. I've used one for over 25 years and it's the quickest most efficient method for winching out of mud, snow, or sand that's ever been devised.
Going cheap on self extraction equipment can be the most costly mistake you'll ever make. And spending hundreds of dollars on a winch and then using this as your sole anchoring method is just plain foolish in my opinion. A tree strap and a Pull-pal ground anchor have never failed to get me home safely and quickly for over 30 years. Sometimes that was in temperatures around -25 where if I'd had to spend much time outside digging the frozen ground I'd likely have died. I wish your business luck but frankly it scares me to think of people going out thinking they're prepared with one of these and a winch.
Pretty sweet, guys. It took some work, but totally worked out. I guess you could improvise one in a pinch.
great, Now I can use this when I am stuck in downtown la
Thanks you for advice sir!
Nice - like everything ingenious it is simple and effective. I am getting one - and will also use it as a sand carpet to sleep on
"Now that you have your dead man buried"
John Makar nailed it
4:22 that car face when coming up, its so cute ;DDD
Cool. I was wondering how you 'dug' it back up. It would suck to dig twice. I'd like to see this same test in dirt though. Seeing is believing.
Stanton Taylor once you're unstuck i would assume you could winch it out very easily by detaching the "legs" from the "arms" and winching on the pair of either.
You can do this with a stick or shovel birthed with a recovery strap wrapped around the middle. Dig half as deep in a straight line perpendicular to the direction you are pulling and bam. You can repel down a mountain side the same way and recover your line this way too.
That thing is great
Great idea
Very cool!
this is a neat solution. I was looking for a sand anchor recently, but nothing .
The Army also refers to this as a "sand parachute." Similar to the "log deadman."
you brought a shovel - No Two.
In Australia there is a thing called a sand anchor and what you do is u drop it on the sand(no digging) the begin winching as u winch it digs itself into the ground until it hits hard sand creating an anchor then you drive over it and it pulls it out no problem
The dog looks tired, did it have to dig the whole pit itself?
Where is this at? I live in ABQ . Looks fun never seen it
How long did it take for you guys to dig that hole? I think this is a good alternative to a pullpal and those who don't want to deal with moving a heavy spare tire off and on your mount. lol. This thing will pack away small too.
Not long - maybe 5 minutes? Sand is easy to dig in.
Dan-forth boat anchor worked well for me in Africa
Would that work the same in snow?
You're never stuck if you've got a shovel and are willing to use it.
I can hear the commercial now."lookout car bra its the all new g string or as we have learned to call it the jeepstring"
Smart use of straps. How well does it work on flat terrain? Like on a beach?
It works really well! We did a test at the beach a few weeks ago and the Deadman held about 6500lb in about 30" hole. Beach sand is great because it packs really well.
Hi, looks a good product. Does it do anything else? I like to carry kit that has dual use when on expeditions due to space and weight.I suppose it would act as a tree protector as well.
Operation Long Drive hi, yep!! It works as a tree strap, as a rock anchor, a bridle, a winchline extension, a radiator screen, a ground mat, a fluid catch, etc... it’s definitely a multi-purpose device.
Deadman Off-Road, Ye sounds good! Thankyou for that. A video might be worth doing of the various functions.
Operation Long Drive agreed! It’s one we have on the plan to do. 🤙🏽
Can it also be used as a tow strap?
Would it's usefulness decrees if it weren't in a Sandy or snow area
Good luck in rocks.
Interesting product. Thanks also for including some extremely lousy music. That really enhanced the video.
Strip club shit lol
would it work trying to pull a 4ton 4x4 fwdhar1 and trailer up that steep sand hill
Yeah it will work. You may need to bury it deeper but it will work. Breaking strength is not an issue, it has a breaking strength of over 66,000lbs.
Bury at 0:40 . . . Climb at 3:40 . . . Extraction at 5:16
Please, for future videos use a wind sock on mic 2:16 if you want us to hear/understand words spoken, thanks
Nice to see more videos with the Bubbarope Gator Jaw, nice shovels (teeth at end)
I've done some 4 wheelin' out around Abq.
For everyone saying “just Bury your spare tire” without reading any other comments.. They tested that side by side and Dead Man hold 2 times the weight and did you see how easy they pulled it out instead of trying to dig your spare out...
Awesome
i think is awesome. i though . mmm you have to dig out the anchor back out , and surprise to just pull it out that easy! 😁
Its no wonder u got stuck,... Was ur tire pressure high enough? Looked to b an easy 40-45 psi, kinda high for sand trails dont u think? Cool product tho, if ur down to dig a huge hole.
How do u dig it up? Seems like work! Suppose if your in a jam then you gotta work any way
Undigging it is the easiest part! All you have to do is detach three of the four leads and pull it out with your winch or by attaching it to your bumper and driving away!

Or try this watch the whole video before typing. Works most of the time :)
Steven King stop being a smart-ass
A little steel pipe and plate, careful thought and measurement, creative tube bending and welding and you can have your very own Pulpal like sand anchor. A couple of lugs welded to the plow stock so it can double as an anchor plate with a few construction stakes. A few hours of work in the shop and you have a solid multi-use recovery tool.
I prefer the Land Anchor PRT. (portable rescue tree)
Zero digging. OK it weighs 15kg, but it is much faster due to no digging.
If that hole is 2ft deep then that bloke is 8ft tall!
Two foot is different in Murica lol. Their gallon is a short measure too
Just bolt those shovels to your wheels. Works amazing.

Hey I live there. Woot woot!
Great
How far is that from Albuquerque, I'm in Farmington
About 25 minutes. It's west of Rio Rancho. "End of Southern". Ride dirtbikes out there a lot.
2:05 : The dog don't give a shit...
What are the benefits of this over a traditional sand anchor?
Matthew Sylvester Good question! The Deadman is lighter, smaller, easier to pack, contains no metal parts to break, is multi-purpose (winchline extension, bridle, tree strap, rock anchor, etc), doesn’t require digging it back up or mounting/unmounting a large off-road tire, can be buried in a shallower hole vs a tire, and is easier to use solo vs some of the metal anchors.
Ah cool thank you
and if it does not hold it will fly directly to the windshield
Just bury your spare tire with a tow strap or Snatch Strap attached to it.
We tested this side-by-side the spare tire. At the same depth, the Deadman held 2x the weight of the tire.
Deadman Off-Road the tire still works tho
That's supposed to hook the left side to the left side the right side to the right side and then you hook them up at the end with the winch connect
Why use a soft shackle in between the winch hook when it would have been safer to attach straight to the anchor.
Whats the song in the end? Anyone?
Where can i buy this at
whats the song plz tell me I forgot the name
So with the V2 version you are solving the odd geometry with the V1 models? If so do you still recommend attaching the "4" lines, ie. arms and legs together as shown in the original V1 versions, or can we now just attach all 4 at a single connection point?
The V2 is one large loop now. Yes they have solved the odd geometry with the new version. All you have to do is bring the two ends of the loop together to the winch with a shackle. The shackle will slide to the balance point, equalizing the load to all four corners.
@@TheBryantwhite Thanks Bryant... I might give the old V1 a try by attaching all 4 lines to one common point and see how that goes next time I'm out in the Borrego dunes. I've only used it in the sand once and it worked as advertised there. I've also had experience with it as a tree saver a few times. Works well in that roll!
can i re-upload your video on my youtube channel ??
7,000lbs wrangler???? Man that’s a lot of equipment considering factory stock it weight about 4,000lbs
7,000 lbs is diesel F250 territory. There's no way that Wrangler is 1500 lbs over its GVWR.
As someone who DOES recovery work, the info they give in this demo is just idiotic and shows they're talking out their asses the whole time.
Yes but the Deadman weighs 2000 pounds ... :-)
Nevermind your choice of music detracts from the product demonstration. That coupled with the safety issue of not using a line arrestor to mitigate a potentially lethal out come of a detachment. This video is not just you representing a product you are invested into but the influence you have on those that lack the skill set when needed.
My issue is in Florida you have a hard time digging a 2 foot hole without hitting water....
Crawl control my dude
Thats bad ass
Gee a spare tire buried does the same thing, I use the same principal to set up a hammock and hammok tent on sandbars or in dunes with a few dead limbs and burying a pair of logs
Why didn’t you air down your tires?
For better grip, dig trenches for the leads so they don't try to pull the dead man up to the surface.
If I were to use a real dead man, do I attach the wrists to the knee caps and attach the winch rope to the ankles? Asking for a friend who is not internet savvy.
What abut of we dont have wich ?
Well, the Deadman is a winch anchor, so if you don't have one it's probably not for you. However, if you have a Hi-Lift jack, you can use that as a come-along and accomplish the same thing (albeit with more effort vs a winch).
Get a friend
napilyon bu hamood if youre in a place like this and you dont have a vehicle with a winch, you shouldn't be out there with that vehicle
napilyon bu hamood
Use a come along i got my f350 dually stuck in the snow covered hill and pulled it out with a 4 ton to a tree come alonging tires you out though
call a towtruck, your mother-in-law, or stay home!
Where can I get one of those dead man sinkers?
kev0M6 we sell them on our website DeadmanOffroad..com. If you’re in Australia, Drifta is reselling them there - look them up!
Deadman Off-Road I will definitely take a look at them thank you so much and keep up the great work.
Yeaah guyss look! It is really importat to find a reaaaally remote place to do this, best in a desert. Now what you gonna do is dig a deep hole . When you are finished just put the Deadman in that hole and burry it. Now you can drive home and never think about that again!
W8, you gottah move dirt 3 times?
Nope, just twice. Once for creating the hole, and once for burying it. The end of the video shows how to get it out without any digging.
W8, i still gottah dig a hole AND fill it back up...
better than burrying my tire tho 🤔
Magic Yeti with a tire you may have to move dirt 3-4 times. You gotta dig it back out and then fill in the hole so no one falls in. Either way though, you’re stuck, your gonna do what you have to do get out.
Love the music!
@matsoffroadrecovery need this someone help me get this to him
You may have destroyed the slipping sand jeep worm's habitat.... Cool video
Will this work in snow?
Andrew Cole Definitely! We just posted about that on Instagram today, actually. @deadman_offroad
Or just bury your spare tire like everyone has been doing forever
Nice video, but it's far easier to just use the highlift jack. Lift up the rear and push sand into the holes the tires were in. Then do the same for the front. Jeep unstuck!!!!
Am I the only one who thought the dog made the video like 10x better
Out in the Puerco... Probably more like RR than ABQ... Probably Sandoval County not Bernalillo... West end of Southern...
SirPlsCalmDown I was looking through the comments hoping to find someone that got it right. Glad I did.
What's this song????
soundcloud.com/headphoneactivist/cloud-city
Does it work in snow?
Stormy Effects yep, it sure does. It works best when the snow is wet heavy snow, like a late season snowfield.
If you can put a few tons of snow on top of it, yeah.
My friend Kyle has so many pictures of this Jeep in his Instagram
Are you 8ft tall?
Jeeps get more and more Mexican looking
Matt Hauck right? So do Ford's and benzos
Matt Hauck I’m Mexican and I approve of this message
Good.
Cars are being built in mexico, what could you expect.
they don't call them yeeps for nothing
4.24 "Hello muddafucka"
Name of the song at 3:35?
pretty please :c
A nice guy Absolute shit.
2 feet just to your knee?! Right!
Why not just get lockers and horsepower?
Good product for sandy trails. Horrible music for the video though.
Why not make the legs and arms different colours.
Because you can rotate it, and legs will become arms and vice-versa.
So a colour coding will not work in that case. ^_^
I was always told bury the spare tire
no shit
It’s cool but there are many bette options that are quicker and more effective! Because what if you don’t have a winch?
Then you better have a friend or five handy or like most people keep your 4x at the mall
Lockers and a shovel.
An appropriate size Danforth anchor would do the exact same thing works on boats in the sand! A shit load bigger then your cute Lil truck.
Lol
Nice idea boys but you need to google Maxtrax.
Burqué!
