Hi-Centered Tacoma Recovery with TacoDust
Watch how the Deadman can be deployed as a rock anchor, even with a loose boulder. Note how it gripped the rock and held it long after it rolled loose, still providing the anchor that @TacoDust needed to recover from being hi-centered on his frame. (BTW, NEVER stand close to the winch line during a recovery... as one of our bystanders did. Clearly, this was unintentional. We should have paid more attention to those around us...)

After exploring Fish Creek Wash and Diablo Dropoff, we decided to head home by way of Pinyon Mountain Trail. This meant running several well-known obstacles in reverse: Heart Attack Hill and The Squeeze, most notably. As usual, the video doesn't do justice to the slope - it definitely got our blood pumping! 201 Toyota Tacoma with 4” lift on 35s. Front and rear lockers.
Deadman Ground Anchor - Sand Dune Test

We set out to see how much capacity the Deadman would deliver in the shifting sand dunes of Pismo Beach, CA. We nearly ripped the bumper of of the truck (seriously) in the process, topping out at 8,050lb before giving up - the anchor never moved. Regardless, when we were finished, we pulled it out by a single corner with no more digging. FTW!

In this test, we demonstrate the Deadman's ability to pull the vehicle out of a hole while in Neutral. Listen to the audio - the truck does not assist. In this test, we intentionally pulled the Deadman out of the hole to demonstrate what happens when you dig a hole that's too shallow for your recovery situation. Note that nothing sudden or catastrophic happens. The Deadman simply rises and pulls most of the dirt with it. We found that this 24" depth in soft desert sand holds about 2,600lb of capacity. More load cell testing. Note the 5800lb peak capacity in this case. 36" hole depth in soft sand. (And yes, it was stupid of me to be in the line of the winch... I just got excited by the numbers and had to share it with the camera!) :-)

Here we purposely hi-centered on a dune and used the Deadman to recover. Even in the shifting blow sand, the Deadman held about 1,100lb and pulled the truck over the edge.
