Season 1 Episode 8 "Poison"
House and his team investigate the mysterious poisoning of high-school student Matt Davis (John Patrick Amedori), until another teen is brought in with all of the same symptoms but almost nothing else in common with Matt. Eventually it is discovered that both youths bought very cheap pairs of jeans at a car boot sale. The jeans were exposed to high doses of pesticides.

I had the same thought, though.
House liked this patient. The fact that he remembered his name was proof enough. He didn't find her boring because she enjoyed who she was. That made House happy, even just for a small moment.

First time House actually knows and calls a patient by their first name.
Gregory called Gorgia
Maybe he always knows but not bother to talk or address them by name
@@avelye5200 He absolutely knows, but doesn't want them to realise he might actually have some compassion for them so he pretends not to.
In this case, he seems rather fond of the genuine and odd patient so doesn't mind showing her some compassion.
That's his equivalent of praise from Caesar.
What about Esther?
It's interesting to see how, despite being brain-damaged and euphoric, she's still aware enough of herself to know that she doesn't want to go back from the way she was feeling.
The two hemispheres of the brain are joined by the corpus callosum which allow communication between the right and left sides of the brain.

Brain damage doesn't mean crazy or incapacitated. It just means... damaged. Just like cutting your finger wont render your hand useless. Depending on the location and the severity, the effects of brain damage can range widely from nothing to catatonic... and everything in between. She's of sound mind. She just has an overestimated segment of the brain due to the damage. It makes her happier, and that is the extent of the effects.

I mean, it doesn’t sound like a bad deal lol. She had a long life with a family and when she got old the dormant syphilis ate away at just enough of her brain to leave her permanently euphoric and happy, while being physically curable.
@@OceanSwimmer sad I think when you get near 95, should give you some room,

All i thought was james brown i feel good imagine that playing on the speakers 🤣🤣🤣
👌
House in this episode was extremely nice " for house standards " to this lady, it actually made my heart melted, especially at the end when he told her he wouldn't give her the meds if he knew it would make her stop flirting with him 😂
Season 1 House was usually pretty nice
his personality shifted in season 2 but house has always been nice to some people usually little kids and the elderly that dont annoy him.
I think house was always nice with people who talk things genuinely or talk things he exactly wants to hear....every one else who pretend to be nice is where we see the house we always love to see
He's always been nicer to kids and sometimes the elderly. And the people who he respects.
He's nice to old people because they have no reason to lie
Best part about this was House's smirk - it looks like he found the whole situation funny in a real, wholesome way. Very rare scene in the show.
That’s as close to a real smile as we’re ever gonna get!
I love the way House smiled at her in the end of this. It wasnt condescending but he was genuinely entertained by her behavior
I'd say he rather admired her. She was dealt a bad hand, but played it well.
You know it actually makes sense this is like one of the only clinic patients he liked. She wasn’t lying about her problems out of embarrassment, she didn’t get herself hurt doing something stupid, and she wasn’t wasting his time with nothing. She said that it wasn’t the fact that she felt like that that concerned her. Just that it was a radical change that seems to come out of nowhere. It’s exactly the type of thing that an objectivist would say is a perfectly good reason to see a doctor, as an sudden change in your body that you have no explanation for is always worth looking into. That and she didn’t try to randomly guess at what it was, something I could see being a pet peeve of his.
Unless you were referring to the objectivist "philosophy" of ayn rand I think you meant pragmatist.
And honestly on this show, something like this could wind up having you seeing god
I've never loved a show so much that I've never seen an actual episode of

The Lady's son honestly acted like he knew more than the trained Doctor about his mothers health. Including test results on her blood which don't really care about a persons integrity
Not uncommon for patients honestly.
Aka, accurate
He's also the Actor who played Zachariah an angel in supernatural. Total dickweed as well
@@quotedspider8534 He also played Woody in the series 'Psych', a weird but really nice coroner xD
He played the Mayor's assistant in Ghostbusters 2.
It was cool to actually see House smile delivery a diagnosis to one of his patients. That seems to be a first.

Wilson is the best he didn't have to read that note that loud but he did.
Revenge is a dish best served out loud.
He could not be enjoying this more.... and neither could the rest of the audience.
I love House’s selective bedside manner. It’s so fun seeing him be nice and charming to patients he likes while simultaneously insulting those he finds insufferable
House genuinely smiled for a solid 2 seconds and it caught me so off guard

What a lovely old girl.
Apparently she passed away

“And you’re just insufferable.” 😂
OH look at House smiling one of those rare genuine non sarcastic smiles
:')
this is like the first time house has ever been “nice” to a patient. like he’s happy to tell her she’s going to be happy
well the patient, came and did his work for him, what not to like, from what she said, house was all ready on the trail of something, before her son interrupted house, so nice patient, bad son, so son got all of house's wrath, leaving on the pleasant house with patient
What a charming old lady! Just listen to the inflections in her speech and the little subtle movements she makes while acting.
Someone said she was quite the looker in the 60s. I googled it because I wanted to see if she was in any of the films I've seen with that level of charm and acting. I have to agree. She is quite lovely. The search also highlighted a quote from her where she said she wanted to be the best at something so that meant moving to New York and studying in the theatre. Someone else here said she died this year. Now, excuse me while I go to the corner and have an existential crisis.
You are not alone in that buddy...count me in after 2 years....
I think this is the only person in the entire series that House genuinely enjoys talking to
2:04 House looks around when he sees Georgia. Maybe I'm overthinking but I want to believe he looked around not because he was embarrassed but because he didn't want to be seen actually being polite to a patient. kind of wholesome in a way, he seems nice to most of the elderly patients.
this went from yucky to creepy to profoundly moving. you can see the way house looks at her at the end, smiling because she's full of life and feeling young again
"That's fairly disgusting"
That’s ageism 😃

never heard some1 be happy bout being brain damaged before
In her case it's a matter of being healthy and miserable or brain damaged and euphoric, I'd say a good many people would give their health for happiness.
there was also that guy who sued the hospital because he didn't have cancer
This case is a little similar to another one. There's a guy whose IQ is off the charts, but he's misreable. So he drinks some dangerous chemical that damages his brain and he becomes happy, until they fix him.
This woman is likely severely depressed due to overthinking. With her brain damage, she's naïve and carefree, but still smart enough to know she was unhappy with her brain at full capacity.
Getting drunk = (temporary?) brain damage.
@@iRazenrak "Get drunk on whatever you can, whether its books, alcohol, plays, or anything else that allows you to cope with the world. Get drunk.Stay constantly drunk to be able to live happily" I am paraphrasing a bit, but this was a quote a ancient philosopher said. I cannot remember which one, but he does have a point that sometimes you reach a breaking point and you have to do something just to be able to cope. The guy with the IQ drank dangerous chemicals and this woman preferred damaged brain, in contrast to severe depression. Its remarkable what people do to themselves just to be able to experience few minutes of pure happiness.
How may ever his personality is, House never ceases to amaze me/us with his amiable behaviour with the elderly ( Take this woman or Ramona or the father son due).
He always liked people who didn’t bullshit

He had a soft spot for this one, he knows what it's like to be stuck playing canasta-- his own version, anyway. It's also one of the few times where a diagnosis (brain damage!) turned out positive, that she escaped that misery, even if he can't. Helped that she buttered him up the whole ep 😂😂
