They do have the possibility to override the fixed tick rate in certain situations (In the past placing many farms was terrible because of the 1/8 server tick rate so they changed this action to be instant on your PC). Maybe they could do the same with move commands (at the risk of having to teleport units if there is a mismatch between client and server)
aoe 4 is still lagging even i pulled off the internet cable in campaign (yeah the game still runs), so i think it's not caused by the server tick rate. But 8 tick sucks too.
@@zqpleo Solo games might be on 8 tickrate aswell, you still create a gamesession which need to be updated even by yourself But I don't think it's the reason either.
@@Herich0 8 ticks per second is very very low. It means you can have up to 125ms between your order and it's application by the engine even locally. You can get 120 frame interpolation per second for fluid animation but it won't start to animate something that the engine hasn't already allowed to move. So if the tick rate is @8 then it is well enough to cause this. You couldn't play a game like Trackmania at all with such a low tick rate and a high input lag. In multiplayer if the engine has some P2P sync then it can get even worse i suppose but 125ms is already pretty bad.
It's great to hear I'm not the only one irritated by it. I'm also EXTREMELY irritated how many hotkeys are missing and can't be bound in any way. Examples: You can't use the keyboard to train units from the Keep. You can't select the Landmark when you tech up by using your keyboard (only via mouse). You can't make Battering Rams with units unless you click on the Battering Ram icon. No hotkey possible. That lack of hotkeys just screams casual to me as a long time Blizzard RTS fan of fast-paced action where you are literally placing buildings down in a rapid pace and cycling through buildings etc. Even in Age of Empires 2 DE this works wonderfully. You can use the keyboard for everything and placing buildings down fast happens instantly. I haven't played Age of Empires 3 in the past because I heard it was the "black sheep" of the franchise. After disliking AoE4 a lot after 10 hours and uninstalling it, I decided to give AoE3 DE a shot and bought it. After playing for 90 minutes I immediately fell in love with it. I greatly prefer its visual style (just like AoE2 DE's visual style) over AoE4. I don't like how hard it is to notice units and buildings from the terrain in AoE4. It lacks constrast and the image is too blurry whereas in AoE2 DE and AoE3 DE the image quality is sharp. All I can say is that if there are other people reading this who haven't tried out AoE3 DE because of the general consensus that it's the worst game in the series, I don't think it actually is... I think AoE3 DE's campaign is fantastic, way better than in AoE4 and the user interface and hotkey bindings are good in comparison. The story is also more engaging and the music is more personal and memorable. I didn't like Age of Empires 4 music at all. So literally didn't like anything about Age of Empires 4 except that the civilizations have lots of variety like in Blizzard RTS games. But hey... here's the thing. You know how in Age of Empires 2 the civs are very similar to eachother? Well that's another benefit for Age of Empires 3. The civs have lots of differences. Way more so than in Age2. So all I'm saying is... if you haven't already, give AoE3 DE a shot. It's actually a good game. Including all of the stuff that makes it different from the rest of the games like Home City / Cards, no resource drop-off points and so on. They just work. And you get used to them very quickly. Now I actually like them and I've played AoE3 for like 9 hours now.
And I should've known I wouldn't like AoE4 since I never really liked any of Relic's other RTS games. I heavily disliked Company of Heroes 2 for example whilst some of my friends seem to like it. Just seemed very unpolished. Even the main menu lagged in that game...
Valid points but most of the sounds like a matter of taste. I found all AoE games to be enjoyable for me, each of their strengths and weaknesses somewhat become something that makes them fun for me. Also note that I also played CoH1 and CoH2 and all Blizzard RTSes, and enjoyed them as well.
I have huge latency on my main region( i always have 40-60 ping in other games like Apex, LoL, Dota 2). When im playing single player it is good. But when im starting playing multiplayer it is always feels like 300 ping. Even when im typing in chat it feels like 300 ping. I even checked it with stopwatch it was around 2.5 secs of waiting to show message in chat. If someone had this problem can you help me please.
relic wasn't the best choice for the game at the end of the day, should have notice.. they are not the same after dow3

I think this is mainly to allow global multiplayer, connecting continental regions together - which was not possible with SC2 or other games. But yes, its annoying and in some cases when the ping goes over 175ms, its near unplayable.
Its really good because of this - lag does not decide games now. Faster players still get more actions in (theres an infinite amount of macro and micro efficiency) but do not lose the game because one person has faster ping and micro-ed a specific aoe attack or something
It's a crappy game built on a crappy engine. Well, we knew all along that it would be the case isn't it? That is why 20+ years later, people still prefer AOE2 and AOE3 to this style over substance lagfest.
Man, I've been learning the game lately and its actually crazy how little people talk about this.
music could be lower volume, but thanks for the video. Recently having lag issues but that's more network related.

hopefully 😂
finally someone else posts about this, felt like I was taking crazy pills
yea, especially when many people saying they didn't notice the lag and I feel like i must be crazy or something.
@@zqpleo youre not crazy the engine is full of lags and stutter even with my monster cpu LOL

aoe4 tick rate is 8
SC2 tick rate is 16+? i believe which is why its so much more responsive

only fix are setting up game speed with a EHM trainer like Wemod and the see if it still lags.

But thanks to this, AOE4 is extremely lag-free when you play with other players across the world, which is pretty rare in RTS
true
it could be a 2d 3d rendering issue.
its a sheet old 1999 engine issue
AoM and AoE 3 don't have this input delay

Boomers prefer AOE 2, those that have like 3 activities that they do their entire life because new things are hard.
