    dont get it most sensors are wifi or gsm enabled, so you get live data. why would you need to wait hours for a robot to do a manual walk around collecting data. seems like 10 steps back again.

      Redundancy. Manual inspection will always be needed.

      Real time telemetry is a thing, so are daily, monthly, periodic inspections and data collection, most of which is a manual process for data collection, storage, distribution, analytics, etc.

    What's the benefit of having a robot running around over having stationary sensors?

      Why not both?

    • @5ch4cht3l7
      @5ch4cht3l7 2 месяца назад

      Yeah, that's the real talking point. It may be the case that spot is cheaper upfront but more expensive to operate (more maintenance) and that's why they chose it.
      Stationary sensors are still superior, because they collect and transmit data continously. So if a imminent critical failure is only detectable for 1 hour before it happens, spot would probably miss it. Also, stationary sensor allow direct measurements of vibration, which is really valuable data that spot can't collect as well (only through imaging processing tricks)

    This is so bizarre, you’re trying to tell me they werent using temperature gauges or taking acoustic measurements before getting this robot lmao??

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf 3 месяца назад +14

      No, they are, but it requires many humans with clip boards to be walking around frequently looking at gauges and checking temperatures, and this can do the same thing, but get better data collection, and let the operators spend their time on fixing the issues rather than just searching for issues.
      This is one use where robot dog actually makes sense lol

      I guess a Spot is cheaper than a lot of sensors connected to the internet.

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf 3 месяца назад +2

      @@iCro63especially since with the thermal camera it can measure temperatures anywhere on a machine, and it would take lots of sensors on each machine to duplicate it.

    • @nuffsaid0

      @@ke6gwf does it really? I'm sure upgrading the instruments to send data via radio would cost a lot cheaper that even single dog robot. Robots make sense in unknown hostile environments. If you want automatisation of something stationary, you better upgrade instead of using robots as a bandaid.
