    This is too funny. I’m the same way. Getting rid of scraps is like getting rid of a friend. I have many stacks. 😀. Great video Vikkie.

      You are correct, dale. Any backyard/weekend woodworker worth their salt, has way too many small scraps lying around. If you don't have a slew of scraps lying around, then you are some kind of multi-millionaire person and you probably have your butler clean the shop at the end of the day while you go to the fancy-pants hardwood store to spend hundreds/thousands stocking up on exotic African hardwoods to use on your next project.

      Friend is probably good description... I felt almost sentimental about them like the little boy studying each slice of bread in the Warburton's advert before he chucks it to the ducks on the canal (or lake?).

      @@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I can agree with that. That means I get to keep all my scraps. 😂. Hey Vikkie, maybe you can do what RUclipsr “Pask Makes” does. Have a scrap wood challenge. This way you can take the bags of scraps back into your shop. 😁 yay.

    Great video! This is something we all have to deal with. Thankfully I'm in a cold climate and when winter comes around, most end up in the wood stove to heat up the place. I have enough stuff cluttering my mind, I don't need more stuff for me to trip on. Thanks for posting.

    I hate getting rid of of tv parts, just in case I need them, about the same as you with wood, because you know what will happen when you throw it away, you will need it and you will spend ages looking for it then realising the fact you’ve thrown it away, get a garden wood burner and use it on a nice summer evening keep up the good work Vikkie

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  2 года назад

      Ooh... I like the idea of a garden wood burner! Something to consider :) And can completely understand with TV parts! I wouldn't mind getting into some electronics and can imagine all the small parts being useful.

    • @worstuserever
      @worstuserever 2 года назад

      @@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I'd be thrilled to see you also get into electronics. My journey is the other way around, lifelong electronic / electrical tinkering and repair while embarking on woodworking much more recently. Despite having made hardly anything yet I've already hoarded at least as much scrap as you; it all has conceivable uses! If anything it's easier to judge what electronic components and hardware is worth keeping or salvaging. Mostly I can't abide waste so one coping strategy is simply giving stuff away to someone who can use it.

  • @ohasis8331
    @ohasis8331 2 года назад

    It is hard to toss stuff since you always find a use for it the day after you do. If I was being honest, I've got bits and bobs from ten years ago that I've never looked at, let alone touch.

    Always a dilemma but I find if I can see them, I can use them. Build a couple of partitions under there and store the wood end on and you'll soon start using them for all sorts of small projects - I've made a few little automaton toys with tiny scraps and a band saw.

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK

    You forgot paint stirers. I have a rule to only keep proper wood scraps. No MDF, no chipboard, no plastic faced ply (shower panels), but big bits of good quality ply are keepable. Scraps I don't want, including proper wood scraps, go in a box for my neighbour's wood stove. I was gifted 3 "oak" bookcases a few years ago. Actually slow growth pine with oak sides and facing. My daughter uses one as a bookcase; one got broken down for a project; and the third is currently storing medium size scraps!
