That "yes, yes, no" mindset, which I heard from Matt in another video, is one of the greatest pieces of advice I've heard for kids.
This guy makes sense in everything he says. I don't play anymore, but enjoy the knowledge he shares.
The kids who get to be coached by him are lucky.

It's my little dude's first season with other kids pitching. He was shaking in the box until we started talking about "yes, yes, no." It definitely helped him get his confidence back!

That’s awesome - must be both a relieving and a proud moment. Great that something seeming so simple can have such an impact on your lad’s batting confidence. Hope corresponding results follow soon! And thanks for sharing.

Matt, I am a BB card collector/dealer and have 3 of your cards including a rookie. Someday please do a video on your reaction seeing the first baseball card on which you were featured.

This is great.... Watching this channel has really given me the itch to play some baseball. Unfortunately I'm 41 so I'm an old man and the only leagues around me are softball beer leagues and I have absolutely no interest in playing softball with a bunch of 60-year-olds, lol - no offense to them I want to play competitively.... This may sound nuts I think I'm going to start training again over the rest of the spring and summer and thru the winter and in a year for now -- I'm going to tryout for one of the local minor league teams or a local independent league team. There are several here in the Chicagoland area so it's not like travel will be an issue... Look, I'm confident and mentally I feel I'm a way better ball player now than I was 20 years ago, not only that but I feel stronger.. Also I'm going to try to be a 2-way player, I mean when I was younger I could hit anything, but I could also pitch - I had really good stuff - I mean my fastball was average at best, but I can throw 5-6 different pitches, I have a real nasty elite curve ball and a few pitches that I can throw that have no name really... The thing is that since I really never pitched my arm is fine for my age - it's not blown out or anything - so given my age and the fact I want to pitch - I have a mint arm.. And as far as pitching, I'm more like a Greg Maddux anyway - I'm a mental guy - I'm not going to put you down with my heat, I'm going to throw you pitches you cant hit and if you can they will be on the ground.... So yea, I think I'm going to give this a shot... I mean I don't know if this is my midlife crisis BUT I always thought what would have happened had I signed with the White Sox after they drafted me.. I didn't sign because I really didn't see myself at that time as anything other than a professional minor league guy who would have never been given the opportunity to play in the MLB just because of my size.. I mean I was a great player but there was always a guy that was almost as good but just bigger then me and size matters - believe me I know it does...
Of course this isn't an attempt to play Major League Baseball, lol that would just be nuts tho I suppose anything could happen but I don't anticipate THAT -- no, I just want to play competitive baseball and perhaps teach younger players the insight I have on the game be it fielding, hitting, pitching and even mental aspects and discipline etc... I mean maybe it wont work out for me as a player - tho I am confident I could play - but maybe it would work out for me as a coach or player coach? I mean that would make me just as happy..
Like I said I think I'm stronger than I was 20 years ago - I'm "middle age strong" lol, probably not as fit but I can get fit.. I just need to work on a few things, get into the cages and start working on my arm etc, I mean I still have it, you never forget how to play ball, you never forget what you know about the game - so all of that is there - it's just getting my body to do it and do it competitively...
So yea, I think I'm going to join one of those local softball beer leagues just to get back into the rhythm, work on my timing, work on my fitness - you know just to knock the dust off and get back into the game, that is step one and from there I will progress... And I'm dead serious about this attempt to make a minor league ball club because I honestly think I can still play, so this isn't the ravings of a delusional middle aged man trying to relive his past, lol - no - I want to seriously play competitive baseball.... Heck, perhaps I will document my comeback on a youtube channel or something.... Also, I don't look my age so I think that will help tremendously so I could lie and claim I'm 33 or something when I'm ready to start trying out next spring, I mean I think I could pass for 33. Look, when I go buy beer or do anything that requires age restriction I sometimes still get asked for my ID by some punk kid that could be my son, lol...
I'm as confident as confident can be, especially in making a lower tier league - because honestly some of those guys suck - they may be "physical specimens" and have raw potential but they don't know how to play baseball, and sorry but being a baseball player requires a lot more than just muscles and being able to hit the ball, you have to have talent, you have to know the game, you have to know the correct way to play the field, you have to know the correct way to hit the ball. And yes anyone can hit the ball, but not anyone can hit the ball consistently the right way . You have to know how to run the bases and anticipate a steal.. Baseball is a lot more than what it seems to be on face value..
And who knows, maybe I will be good enough to get a MLB contract to play in the minor leagues -- now I'm not holding my breath for that one, nor is that the reason why I want to play baseball again but it would make what I'm trying to do the cherry on top of the story..
And yes, I'm 100% serious about all of this.

Thanks Matt. in my hs season I am hitting great in practice and scrimmage, but when I get in the game, my mechanics break down and I make a lot of weak contact. same with pitching too. I will try these tips

Hey Matt, love the videos. One thing I feel like I haven't seen from your hitting tips (though I realize you probably categorize it under Posture) is that in order to correctly use your upper body mechanics with the shoulders working north/south, you really have to make sure your back side is not collapsing.
if you take a look at 7:31 where your bottom half isn't moving much you can kind of see the 'dip' or 'shoulder drop' created when the back leg isn't really getting engaged. Something to consider for a future video if people ask you about their shoulder dropping, it's an issue I've recently been dealing with.

Perhaps if you would lower the cost of the hitting course. $250 is too much.

$250 is too much for every piece of swing mechanics knowledge I’ve received my entire life?
