I used to live a fast, ambitious life in NYC and 2 years ago I moved to the French countryside and have completely altered my life - more nature, more connection, more stillness and slowness in my everyday. Plus, all things hygge and old-fashioned
Simple Joys awh thank you for saying. You must feel like a different person leaving the city for the slow country life! There is nothing like it eh! If you ever make any videos let me know I’d love to see. X
@@FairylandCottage so different! life feels lighter and my soul feels so connected to the Earth. And I've found that it's easier to have gratitude for the simple things. aw wow! thank you! :) here is a film from my village in Alsace - ruclips.net/video/QlBUEKEPaP8/видео.html
Oh yes, please show us your life in France, a country that I love. I would like to see a bigger internet community of how to live a slow and more natural life, including ideas how to make city life more humane!
One of my brothers takes his little Jack Russell, Patchy, out for an early daily walk - and always brings back a bouquet of 'roadside' flowers for my niece, when she wakes up - 'from Patchy.' It's just such a sweet gesture, to my mind - and he takes a picture and sends to my mother and me of whatever flowers he found each day. My rose bushes are blooming like mad right now, so I have a fresh rose bloom on my desktop every day, too.
I laughed at your comment about drying washing, because I live in Wales (which also gets a lot of rain and is still and overcast today) and the first thing I thought when I saw the start of your video was "good drying weather"! Love the idea of a book - as your life is so seasonal, perhaps doing it in the form of a calendar year would work? "The Year at Fairyland Cottage" with sections on the food, wildlife, garden, craft etc for each month? Also, lots of photos in it please, especially of the garden! P.S. I couldn't tell from the clip in the video, but please make sure the rocks in your pond come close enough to the top that any wildlife can climb out - hedgehogs often drown in garden ponds because they fall in trying to drink and can't climb out again.
Pippa S haha drying weather! I love your idea about a year at fairyland. It’s a wonderful idea. Maybe a calendar might work better and loads of picture too! Thanks also for the stone tip. I did a stagger of the stones from bottom to top for any wild life to climb out. I hope that works.
Me, with a 2yo, feeling so lost and fed up, with a messy house, dishes in the sink, just overwhelmed and lonely. I long to be Me again and not just Mommy, which I Love but some days I wish I could just pause this at home and just have a day. I admire your little world. It's beautiful. Ty for sharing.
If you do choose to write a book, I’d love to see a Fairyland Cottage Manual, a book that shows how-to’s like the bug hotel, detergent, shampoo, fairy doors, recipes, teas, and some housekeeping and gardening tips and examples. Also reminders to take it slowly, and enjoy the process rather than rushing to see the result. That would be splendid! Whatever you choose to do, I’m sure it will be great, just do what you enjoy and what seems natural and I bet it will be fantastic!
I love the site and smell of hanging clothes outside. Plus the bonus the sun bleaches whites. After 42 yrs. Of full time work, I am enjoying staying home.
Even though I lived in a hot climate (Thailand) but I also appreciate the sun when doing laundry as well. There's something soothing my mind when I see and smell of the cloth hanging on the sunlight and little windy, the movement of clothes, it's just a simple moment that I enjoy.
I’ve been watching your videos a lot while pregnant. Very peaceful! Thank you. It’ll be hilarious if my Jamaican-American baby comes out speaking with an Irish twang 🤣💚
It is very pleasant to realize that at least some people are living a nature-friendly life in this fuzzy and busy world where almost every one is after money and people don't even realize of how beautiful the nature is.
I love your break idea. Getting out of the house into nature. Collecting a bouquet when available. Thank you for sharing the cavorting lambs. Pure joy.
One of my friends who is also a spiritual director has called this time "The Great Pause", which has been much easier on my heart and mind than "When will this end?" I love his grace in renaming what has been an anxious, uncertain time. Now that I'm no longer having clients, I'm spending a lot of my day out in my garden, really settling in to the comfort and purpose of turning my yard into a beautiful, productive fruit and veg sanctuary. Thank you so much for your lovely posts - I so look forward to them, and the peaceful spirit they offer us.
I'm currently writing a novel. Leisure time is extremely special and valuable in our lives, at any time, and it should be used wisely. So instead of wasting time watching Netflix or facebooking, learn a skill and cultivate your talents. You never know what greatness lies inside yourself, but now you have the time to find out! 😃
I too think that it is most helpful to have structure in the day. I do love the views of the countryside during your walks. I’ve begun some yoga in the morning, along with house chores. And now that it’s Spring and almost summer, I’m outside a lot for garden work. I have to almost make myself take a break and sit with a book to enjoy my surroundings.
Living in central Texas.....everyday, all year long, is a wash day! My dryer long ago “gave up the ghost “. My clothes hanging has turned into art. I love laundry!
Oh yes, the magic of meadow flowers doing their dance in a little vase! I don´t like the idea of dividing the day into blocks as I´m always happy when I don´t need a watch but with unpleasant work to do I set a maximum time, let´s say 90 minutes, to motivate myself to get started. Breaks: research on stress tells you to interrupt mental work every 20 minutes- just get up and do something physical or just look out of the window to relax the eye muscles and refresh the mind.
Us Scots are the same with the washing!! All the wee mammies rushing to put the washing out on a nice day. Bedsheets dried on the line smells Devine ❤️
A beautiful, restful, and helpful video. Watching your daily routine unfold is guaranteed to lower one's blood pressure and bring them to a state of calm. Delightful. Thank you.
Ireland is truly breathtaking. Thank you for this great video, I also use block to structure the day and avoid starting a million things at once and burning myself out.
So beautiful! Thank you for my weekly dose of calm))) I'd love you to write a book about Fairyland Cottage! It would be so nice to learn about your story and how you came to this way of life. And also just your thoughts on sustainable lifestyle in general.
I think this video was my introduction to Fairyland Cottage, and it remains one of my very favorites. 🤗 I’m so grateful for the year 2020 because it brought me back into an awareness of what’s really important and how much we have to be thankful for.
Your video is so relaxing. I have slowed down alot because of my health and I do a little at a time. I love to go for a walk and be among nature. It helps so much.
Love the idea of blocks. A set period to work on something then do something else. Work doesn't allow this of course, but on days I can, I''m going to give it a try. Thanks for such wonderful videos. :)
I like the idea of structure in the day. Mine is dependent upon the weather and the items on my to do list. I'm also busy putting together my garden too, so when it is the right weather outside, I just on that apportunity.
Your channel reminds me of Girl and The Word! Both have a beautiful home and cinematography, inspiring voice overs, and the most compassionate, captivating narrator
Hello, so true,I also divide my day into “blocks “ , before I was in an hurry and was stressed not having enough time , especially in the morning before work, not Healthy, we do the same things each single day, now I know each task how long it takes me to do it and now I control time and I am not in a hurry anymore and I’m much more quieter
Good Morning from the Midwest (US)! I’ve been working from home for 7 weeks now and since i live alone, i have had total freedom in determining my daily routines. A few things I’m doing now that blow my mind - I’ve started meditating for 10 minutes every day and find it actually wakes me up, especially before work starts at 7 on the weekdays. Since I’m used to waking up that early now, this weekend I’ve been up around 7:30/ 8 o’clock, letting my body just naturally get up. I like your routine of doing physical things in the late morning and then mental (technological) things in the afternoon - I’ll have to try that. I tend to want to always “be doing something”, whether it cleaning or organizing or doing projects, so thank you for the reminder to just take moments during the day to rest our minds!
Hi you ! I love your channel and also love so much your country. I was in 1998. It was a great moment and nice memories. I would like to come back (!) ... Greetings from Switzerland (and thanks for subtitle in French, my mothertongue) 🇨🇭
I'm enjoying your videos very much, ty. I usually spend the morning in the garden after an early walk then after lunch read a while or do some crafting. After supper I go for another walk then have some family calls as it's awful not being able to be with them. I'm finding the days whiz by not drag at all but just for a little time in the evening I light a candle and sit quietly thinking about my children and grandchildren, hoping they're ok and what we'll do when we see each other again. I find that keeps me going. Some days are not too good, sometimes you find yourself stopping and just catching your breath with the whole overwhelming worry of what's happening around but mostly, those days are few. I hope everyone stays home and safe, keeps well and just waits a wee bit longer before we all rush out like mad things when it might not be the right time. I think most, including me have a secrte dread of the day we're let out. Almost a panic feeling but hopefully those in charge know what they're doing! I hope so. I do so love your home. My family are from Donegal and we plan to visit once this is over. Take a breath of the homeland air, which is worth any wait for isn't it. Many thanks, I feel so relaxed after watching one of these.xxxx

I like your version of structure. I am not a schedule person, but the general blocks of activities seem loose enough to keep me involved and structured enough to keep me moving forward. Thank you. And write that book!
Hi Kate...Ireland is so beautiful; I was able to visit many years ago and I loved it too! You can find places similar here in the US ! I live in the northeast Ga mountains, small town, very rural and it reminds me very much of Ireland...probably why so many people in this area have Irish ancestors who came to this region. Come visit!
Good morning🥰. It’s 67 degrees today and sunny!! Thank you for sharing your day! I feel very relaxed and ready to follow how you block out your day. Makes so much sense. Getting a late start but feel inspired to get outside! I’ve never been to Ireland but really appreciate seeing the lambs in the very green pasture! Just what I imagined!! Stay healthy and safe🙏❤️
With everything going on in the world right now I feel like it so important to get outside and be with nature. It helps me so much after working from home all day. It is also nice to take a break from your phone or the TV. I find that the more I sit around and when I don't have a routine I go crazy.
Good morning Fsiryland! A book would be lovely. The cottage and area are just gorgeous and it would be wonderful to learn about them. You have mentioned it is old. Also as much as you'd like to share about your life would be lovely. As always, so peaceful and a joy to watch.
This couldn't have come at a better time for me. I've been struggling with making a schedule I can really stick to and struggling with being overly-addicted to productivity (which has led to me WAY overworking myself). Been really appreciating all of your videos and this one in particular really put things into perspective so thank you!
I love you're vids so relaxing to watch i love being out in my Australian bush watching the wildlife.kangaroos echidnas , goannas, snakes and out beautiful birdlife
I love your videos !! I feel fortunate to have access to your beautiful perspective. I have always wanted to retire in Ireland. Here in California, it is also beautiful but entirely different. You truly bring out the beauty of Ireland, and your lifestyle honors the fertile land.
A book would be wonderful!! Reflections on homemaking and simplicity, recipes, a room-by-room tour of Fairyland Cottage, routines and rhythms, and craft projects would be great topics :) Can't wait to hear your progress on it!
Your voice reminds me of the reporter from Princess Diaries and I love it so much! You are so calm and soft spoken, I love listening to your videos when my anxiety is high. 💛
What a beautiful video and great structured day you’ve crafted. You are such an inspiration and so loved. Thank you for the effort you put in your videos, it really shows. Hugs from South Africa.
I have always given my days some structure and since I am in my mid thirties, I love the early morning. I always get up really early to enjoy my breakfast, the birds in my garden and the silence of this time of the day. Then I start to get things done until lunch. My late afternoons and evenings are for reading, knitting or baking. I really love your videos, Niamh. Thank you so much. They bring so much joy and calmness and focus on the important things in life!
During this trying times, your channel is a breath of fresh air and hope. Real joy comes from what the earth offers for free. Best regards from Manitoba, Canada.
Kinda hurt my heart when you just snipped the whole bunch of flowers from the plant. Was always told by my mama to only pick a few flowers from each and leave some so the plant can carry on. Lovely video though :)
Your videos are so relaxing. And during this time I find myself watching a lot of your older videos too as well as the new ones😁. Thanks for giving us all a calm place to visit & taking us along the way it’s lovely 😊
Oh we had a very productive time while suck at home. We finally finished a raised, enclosed garden space before filling the beds with good dirt. We can not wait to transplant! But oh wow, did we pay for it in long days in the hot sun. Both of us are tired but pleased. Now if we can just get our doeling weaned from Mom with a bit less stress screaming all will be well. XD
Thank you so much for sharing your life journey with us! I loved seeing the little lambs jumping & running about the hillside! The flowers you share are so beautiful ... I wonder if you could name them for us ... they are so lovely. We (my husband, Andy, & I) have recently moved back to his hometown and we are in the process of planting several different garden plots. I have at least a dozen sweet potato slips growing in temporary "pots" just waiting till the possibility of frost is gone. We lost ALL our apples & pears last year due to unexpected frost ... killed ALL the sweet blossoms ... very sad. We did have an abundance of other crops ... tomatoes, pumpkins, delicatta squash, spaghetti squash, kale, carrots, etc., etc., etc. I must close ... I got a little long-winded. 'bye, Sue
I also love your cottage and the area where you live. I wish someday I can live so close to nature someday. Living amidst the hustle and bustle of city your videos are like medicine to calm down. 😊

Your book turned out beautifully. Once I get my computer I will download the PDF. Thank you so much.
A book would be wonderful!! Reflections on homemaking and simplicity, recipes, a room-by-room tour of Fairyland Cottage, routines and rhythms, and craft projects would be great topics :) Can't wait to hear your progress on it!
My daily is mostly chaotic and unstructured. This helps thank you.
Your voice reminds me of the reporter from Princess Diaries and I love it so much! You are so calm and soft spoken, I love listening to your videos when my anxiety is high. 💛
Visited Ireland twice already. So many spectacular castles. Beautiful cuntry❣

Trizelle Bodenstein what a heartfelt message. Thank you. I really appreciate the support. X
Loved your vase with the flowers. Gorgeous. And your fence with the bird houses...visually so appealing. Thank you ❤️
I have always given my days some structure and since I am in my mid thirties, I love the early morning.
Your videos are beautiful as ever! The little lambs are so sweet
Kinda hurt my heart when you just snipped the whole bunch of flowers from the plant. Was always told by my mama to only pick a few flowers from each and leave some so the plant can carry on. Lovely video though :)
Aly Class ah yes! I’ll be sure to do that in future. Thanks for caring :-)
@@FairylandCottage It's lovely to see how you take suggestions/comments without any defensive at all.

Camron Thompson ah how lovely. Some videos seem so old now. How time flies. 😊
Wow, am so happy at the thought of you writing a book! Lovely video as always, so calm and peaceful. Thank you x
XD
Absolutely excellent sun protection!
Thank you so much for your beautiful relaxing videos, always a pleasure to watch them.
A Pinch Of Life awh thanks for saying. I’m glad the videos bring some peace and calm to your life. X
