Honestly I find Roxas' character more compelling than Sora's. So I wouldn't mind having him the lead for that game. Although maybe not the entire game though. Since he should return to Sora without his choosing since that's a key part of his tragedy. He can't complete this journey without Sora and Sora can't without him.
I honestly would since in the ending with Roxas living his life throughout the game let's say he becomes content, he did everything he's supposed to do, he lived his life how he wanted and ultimately returns to Sora, but instead of falling asleep Roxas becomes a split personality of Sora feeling that Yeah this dude is too nice let me give him my memories and experiences so he'll take things a little more seriously, but Sora keeps his cheerful side
Hell the games after this would be interesting if in the process you give Sora and Roxas not only a relationship similar to YuGiOhs Jaden Yuki and Yubel, but develop Sora's personality into S4 Jaden/Judai, until the end of DDD where he finds his joy again with DDD focusing more on Sora's darkness through Roxas.
I personally would be more than happy to have Roxas as a playable character outside of 358/2 days, KH2 prologue and eventually KH3. Reason behind why I’d want to is because he was the first character I fell in love with. 358/2 days was my first KH video game and I admit I AM BIASED. But at the same time I was able to relate more to him than Sora.

I think it's really good how you decided to this video. Cause I remember when kh2.co.uk was still active they did this what if version of kh2 where sora and roxas both being playable in kh2 and switch back and forth between the two, because it was kind of annoying how we played as roxas during the whole prologue but don't see him again until the world that never was, fighting him if you play the final mix version. You know what I mean?

There was a fanfic that had him travel with Namine and Axel after the prologue. So they could replace Donald and Goofy who would just travel with Mickey.
I preferred Roxas to Sora so I'd be down for a Roxas centered KH2.
An easier pitch would be Roxas as a regular nobody who joins the Organization in the beginning of 2. He was a keyblade apprentice who died fighting the Heartless during 1. He comes back as a nobody and has to grapple with what that means because he didn't know what they were before. He does become a good guy at the end but he has to be misguided in the beginning for that to work.
He defects at the halfway point and the second trip around Disney is a redemption tour. He tries to make amends for what he did in the first half.
I'd probably name him "Arashi'.
It's a riskier plot to what we got but I would've been fine with it.
I didn't think of 358/2 days but I might retool that into the early part of the game or a sequel.
Honestly, someone needs to fully idealize this, as what if scenarios lead to mods and fan games, of which the first would be easier.
The thing is, both Roxas' story and the story of KH2 rest so much on that element of tragedy that I don't think it would work. As much as Roxas is my favorite character I think Sora makes a better main character for the whole franchise. Kingdom Hearts is surprisingly dark and philosophical for a series where your best buddies are Donald Duck and Goofy, so having a main character who is generally very positive is helpful to balance the mood. Plus with the central emphasis on connection, Roxas' point about it needing to be Sora makes sense. People kinda rag on Sora for not being an interesting character, but I think like Kairi, the problem is that you need to read into a lot of what he does, and how the other versions of them reflect aspects of their characters, compared to Riku where whats happening is pretty obvious.

to be honest, I like roxas better than sora cause you know he’s got a pretty good interesting backstory also how he tragically lost his only friend but also gets things done a lot quicker than Sora and it’s way more serious than ever just like Jaden yuki is in season 4 plus finding his own identity is the most important thing that he wants to be, but to also be his own person rather than being a copy of Sora and ventus and on the sidenote, he does have a short temper, but was able to maintain his cool not unlike a certain blonde from full metal for those who can him short
Imo KH should go in a what if series in their game, expand its lore and KH universe.
You can mod kh2 to play as roxas

I had to say anyone who likes Roxas is liking the overrated character. Roxas is an edgy emo while Sora is the sunshine boy that the world needs. In other words if this sequence of events actually happened then the world would be screwed so hard and so heavy that Xehanort wouldn't even need to enact his final plan. Sora is the key that connects everything, Roxas doesn't even have a connection to anyone else other than is mere appearance that looks like Ventus. You may look like Ventus but he acts like an edgy emo version of Terra. He's too fast to anger and has the emotional maturity of a cucumber. From the fact that Roxas was already fully absorbed by the end of it there was no way to save him at that point in time. Throw in the fact that if they decide to go that route in the story Kingdom Hearts would have ended with Kingdom Hearts 2 with it being hated by the fanbase because the whole reason everyone loves Roxas is because of his tragic story when we first meet him. If you take that way he'd be hated, it was only through his tragic Journey towards nonexistent that allowed people to grow attached to him because they wanted to see him thrive if you take away that Journey then really he wouldn't be nearly as interesting as a character which is very minimal in my opinion. Throw in the fact that Sora is less impulsive than Roxas. Yes Sora is be less impulsive one roxot is easy to anger and is impulsive.
I honestly don't care if he is overrated or not he is one of my fav characters with a sad story to tell....all he wanted is to just hang out with his friends and live a normal life in the end...a lot of people can relate to him as much as sora
I think Roxas would be allowed to grow and become something other than the fan favorite emo if he was exposed to other worlds and would've learned about Sora from Donald and Goofy, to name a few.
