    Finally got my newest powerwall finished. its 25min. long but does not cover all the smaller detailes and modifications i made to fix issues i had with the last version. I'll have to make another video going over cold solder joints and use of dielectric grease.
    Hope you like the video. Let me know what you think!

    I found your page when searching for new powerwall ideas. I love the modular aspect. I have a hard time getting rid of cells that don’t meet the standard for my bigger 14s 120p walls… I find them to still be usable, and likely have years of life in them, but are a little too degraded (20% or so) or are too low capacity (1300mah) so was looking for a way to still use them. On your last point re: fire. I specifically keep welding gloves and bolt cutters handy next to the door to my shop so if things start going south I can remove components, or at a minimum disconnect them. An idea that popped into my head with this modular design is to have a thin nylon strap, or 550 cord, tucked behind the cells, with a common handle… a “pull in an emergency” kind of thing, where all cells can be pulled out of their holders if needed.

      Yep it works great. Lithium iron phosphate seems to be the best

    Hi Andy, I used the same power holders as you but use the VBMS app. It's chargeable but very good front page display with all you need on one screen.
    Also if you download the Anydesk app on the phone you can connect to it from anywhere and keep an eye on what's going on. I now use 3 mobiles with 3 BMS's and connect to each one in turn when I'm away from the house.
    Also I forgot to say, I use my thermal camera once a week when the batteries are charging to check any hot spots ( not had any in the 3 years they have been in use)
    Good luck.

    Be careful with the cheap CellMeeter8 as, if I remember correctly, it's powered from first 2 cell in your string (from ~8.4v), so long terms it may drain them so, causing unbalance with other cell in string.

      Ty good to know I'll keep an eye out. So far I haven't seen that pattern yet but I'll do some testing

    i think electrodacus is prob the best charge controller and bms in one unit it is deffo the one ill go to when i go off grid again

    It would be cool to add battery packs or modules let say you want to take it for camping

      I'm worried bumps and moving around would be bad. I have an idea to solve it but never did it

    Have you ever had a fuse on the back blow? I built my own battery holder array and after finishing it I realized I should have thought of adding a tesla style fuse on the back

    • @AndyShell
      @AndyShell  Год назад +1

      Only when I put a battery in backwards. That's really the only reason to fuse each holder. That and a catastrophic line failure. I've switched to big lifepo cells though. Much safer and reliable

    There's no way pulling all those batteries during a fire is a good idea, especially without a mask. At most I'd try flipping the power/breakers off and get out, leaving an exterior door open.

    • @AndyShell
      @AndyShell  3 года назад

      If it's only one or 2 or 3 cells tho?

      @@AndyShell If you're right there and see it start, maybe, but you'd still need to spend time getting your gear on and opening a door to chuck them out. You could keep a tub of sand right underneath to help with that situation.

    Hi whats the best tester for 18650 ...that you recommand.thanks

    • @AndyShell
      @AndyShell  Год назад

      I very strongly recommend buying new lifepo cells instead if you're making a sationary battery pack. If it's just screw around fun small portable 18650 are ok.
      Opus is best I know of for quality accuracy but liitokala lii-500 are best money to performance for bulk processing. But I've switched to lifepo and haven't done any research into 18650 in at least 2 years so there might be something better

      @@AndyShell ok thanks im testing with xtar....it seems good ..but i will check about opus.

    Will the holder terminal survive for let say 10 months...?

    • @AndyShell
      @AndyShell  2 года назад

      Only issue with holder terminals is when batteries being pulled out and put in a lot the metal tabs get loose and need to be bent out slightly once in a while

      Lifepo packs are much better. If you can just buy those and save yourself a lot of bs
