I love the way you paint trees as suggestions, while still definitely trees. Quite the trick!

Hi Sandy. loved watching you painting this boat. Just fabulous. Have been away from your channel for a while, but I'm back to playing with paints again and signed up for 2 new classes. I think 2024 will be my wc year! Spent the last year obsessed with junk journals and had a blast. Now that every female and grandchild in my family has a journal, it's time to move on!! 😅Gotta try it all, right? Going over to see the new "digs" you created.😁❤

Love your explanation of when to use masking fluid vs white gouache. I’m in a painting group at our local art center that meets weekly. Our group consists of beginners to seasoned professional artist. We have a great time but also learn a lot from each others triumphs and mistakes. I stumbled on a great way to apply fine lines of masking fluid. I am a pen and ink illustrator that is learning watercolor so I approach problems with a pen. I tried using a glass pen to apply masking fluid and it works like a charm. I used it for cat whiskers and window mullens etc. Give it a try! Love, love ,love your watercolor style!!!

I’ll give my glass pen a try sometime…I tried a ruling pen and couldn’t manage that!😂

I have found that a ruling pen gives clean lines of masking fluid. Mine is from the 60s, from my dad’s drafting set from college.

You hit another one right out of the ball park! Showing the difference between masking fluid and gouache was excellent! Thank you!

This is beautiful Sandy. Thanks as always for the tips. I think I need to buy better paper because mine always seems to pill up a bit when I remove masking fluid. Would one of those special erasers help? Usually I use a normal eraser to get it started then rub gently with a clean finger to get the rest off.

Yes, a rubber cement pickup should help, as well as good paper. 😍

I've always struggled and been afraid of masking fluid because no matter what I use, it almost always ruins my paper! This was very helpful though, thankyou!
Also, what brush are you using to paint the trees? It looks super handy!

What brand of gouache do you recommend?

After a bunch of testing -Daniel Smith snd Winsor & Newton paint the same, but WN dries out faster (it can be rewet but I still prefer the paint to stay pliable longer).
