Here it is August 2022 and I'm thinking about how much Dimash has evolved, especially with this song. I found myself fascinated with his singing abilities back when he performed SOS in China. His French pronunciation might not have been right on but he had the ability to move people spiritually with his voice. Now when he sings SOS it is perfection. Everything Dimash sings is a masterpiece. To this day, he gives me goosebumps every time he opens his mouth. I am forever a Dimash Dear.
I did not know him, first time hearing about Dimash, but honestly as a francophone I can't listen to his interpretation, can't understand any of words he is singing.
Since that first performance (in a Chinese competition in 2017), Dimash has greatly improved his French pronunciation. As well as Kazakh (his mother tongue), he speaks fluent Russian. His songs in English were 'passable', and here too he has made lightning progress - he can even hold a conversation in that language! The same goes for Chinese, which he's a little less fluent in! He does quite well in Ukrainian, Belarusian and Turkish. As far as French is concerned, speech therapists have pointed out that the placement of the tongue and the movements of the mouth are very different from Kazakh and other languages. In fact, it's widely acknowledged that French people who are not fluent in another language (their mother tongue) pronounce English quite badly! Dimash fans living in over 100 countries around the world say they don't understand the lyrics in French (or Kazakh or Russian or Kyrgyz) but feel the emotions in Dimash's voice very strongly... because they listen to him with their HEART, their "soul" and not just with their ears! There you go... ah no, as soon as you're ready, I'd love to hear you speak and or sing in Khazakh, Mandarin, Serbian, Japanise etc. while accompanying yourself on one of the 9 instruments Dimash plays! I won't ask you to 'hit' one of his high notes, which aren't even on the piano !
@@sebastienlemay6120 I completely agree with you. Dimash's French is atrocious and because of this Dimash fails to convey the true meaning of the aria.
Before I knew Dimash, I have always preferred Gregory's version which doesn't mean that the others are bad. The very first time that I heard Dimash sing, it was this song and it made me cry for a long time. The portion of the song that made we cry were not the high or low notes, but the singing in between and was very emotional for me. I just wanted to comment since I read someone state that Dimash did not have emotions. I've been a Dimash fan ever since.
Dimash is no better than Gregory. Dimash is only technique, no soul in his voice. He sings clearly and flawless like a robot. And Gregory sings through his heart.
Gregory 😭 sung with cystic fibrosis is incredible! Beautiful young man, lost too soon. Bruno, Laurent Pagna, Norman G 👏👏 Valentin super pure young voice ❤ but Dimash is in a league of his own. I’ve listened to him sing this daily for weeks & weeks since ‘finding him’ - I’m definitely now a ‘Dear’ - chills and goosebumps whenever he sings but this is the song that brought me to him 😍🥹🤯 just astounding and such a lovely humble man too
Dimash! Only Dimash should sing this song. The others just can't get those high notes as pure as Dimash. Dimash's whole performance is pure brilliance.
I adore Dimash, I've been following everything he's been doing since his first performance of this song on The Singer, he became one of my favorite singers ever, and he is for me the best voice in the world. But I remember my 14 year-old self crying in front of the TV, entranced by Grégory's performance. This hyper-energetic, joyful, mischievous kid who was on the verge of breaking down. The lyrics are so connected to what he was experiencing, his never-ending fight against the disease, a 21 year-old boy knowing that he had to enjoy every second, because the "life is short" adage had a very literal meaning in his case. It felt like every word was written for him. It was an otherworldly performance and one I have watched more times that I can count in the last 15 years, always with the same gut-wrenching emotions. It's been almost 13 years since Grégory died but he still is sorely missed, an angel gone too soon.
Thank you for this Video, Although Dimash himself is very humble and is not into the comparison of others. The other singers also performed well, but Dimash brought strength and ease to the whole range of notes sung. He has most certainly given this song a well-deserved revival, and more people around the world now know it.
If you take into account that Dimash did not speak one word French before singing this song his performance was even more incredible... And his voice is just outstanding. It's not all about hitting the high notes, it's about nailing them with power and unbelievable volume....
i don't think that he speaks more french after. :-) From technical point of view, his french is very bad. This song ( unlike his performance ) is not about giving power to the high note. The high notes are meant to express frailty, to escape from the ground of the reality.
The frenchies are just butthurt a non french singer got the attention all over youtube in different countries with a french song. Just like the italians being butthurt over chefs making their own versions of italian dishes and gaining more popularity. Then they are going to leave comments no one but their own people give a shit about
@@mallorymallory1518 when you sing a song in a language you don't master, you should be careful about the pronunciation. Your comment is clearly discriminatory imho. If Dimash would sing an English song with such a bad English pronunciation (as poor as his French pronunciation) you would clearly not write this kind of unhelpful comment. I'm a native French speaker, and don't care about Dimash, but seeing so many commentators (rightfully) praising his singing skills while having no clue that his pronunciation is bad (because we can assume most of them don't speak the language) makes me wonder.... Singing a song right is not just about getting the notes right, in ANY language.
@@tao2bruno259 I clearly have to agree to this. I am really amazed by the vocal quality of Dimash, but sorry, the song is more than range, it’s also words. And I am very sad that Dimash didn’t put an effort - as he sings this song for many years now - to improve the French pronunciation (except “vis”). The French language is beautiful and is music by itself. It’s a bit frustrating that he doesn’t use this language advantage in a better way. Therefore I love Gregory’s version. (Said by a German.)
The only issue with the Dimash version, is it's pronunciation. It's a french song, and the Dimash's pronunciation is really horrible. It's clear that he didn't work on the text. But a song is not only doing beautiful sounds, it's also doing beautiful emotions with a beautiful text. In French words like 'vis' (life) or 'ris' (laugh), you don't pronounce the final 's'. But Dimash pronunce it. When you pronounce the 's' in 'vis', you don't say 'life' but you say 'screw'. So when a french listen the Dimash version, it's really weird. But it's cool.

Michael Allahverdiyev I don’t agree that he sealed it up... his version was truly unique and almost no one can match his high notes, but other singers have their own style of singing the song, less opera, more rock, and some of those are at least as emotional as Dimash’s. Someone may paint the most beautiful shade of blue you can think of, but that doesn’t mean others don’t prefer red or yellow.
Totally agree with you Michael. I think everyone is talented in singing this beautiful meaningful song but Dimash really brings my emotions out. He's really hard to top. I would listen to his version all day long!
Dimash is the only singer who’s voice didn’t thin out hitting the high notes. If anything Dimash gets more powerful in his high notes and the way he finishes the song is nothing short of perfection.
That's because he isn't actually singing the song. Most of it is incomprehensible. The way he sing it it's easier to hit high notes. Instead of saying "haut" he shift to "i" when going high. He's also skipping parts of the song and harder consonants.
@@jeremyweaver8546 First of all the song was written for Balavoine, the authors said it numerous time. No, you dont do it because of thé original singer, but because thé song requires it. It's not à song about power but frailty.

Dimash, he makes it a joy - not standing still or closing his eyes most of the time, he uses his hands n commands the stage w his self confidence, doesn't make faces straining for notes, but switches octivas effortless :) ....And he sings w feeling!
vocal performance = 100% , he is amazing, sounds like a woman opera singer at a moment respect of the lyrics ( ok he is not french speaking ) and the meaning of the song = bad This is a song from a guy who feels bad in his skin. Dimash`s is also a cover, and it`s meant as a tribute in memory of people who passed away young - including Gregory Lemarchal, and Dimash`s own friend Denis Ten who was murdered by thieves at age 25 ; also meant as a tribute to artists like Michael Jackson, Chester Bennington, George Michael, Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse and many, many others, who died young. In Dimash`s concerts, images of all of them roll on the stage screens during "SOS". His cover of "SOS" is meant as a lament, and a a cry. Sometimes he sings it as a lament for the vulnerability of humanity, and images of tragic events roll on the stage screens, like the burning of Notre Dame, pandemic etc. When an artist does a cover of a song, he can add his own touch to a song. If people want to stop that from happening, they can restrict other artists from performing the song. There`s over 10 covers in this video, and they were all allowed to give their own interpretation. Sadly, in this collage, all the emotional portions of Dimash`s interpretation were left out, and only his high notes were included, while other singers had a bigger portion of their performance included in the collage.

After Dimash my standards have become high. His version make me cry so hard every time.
All very talented...but after Dimash's version I really can't see anyone topping it. Dimash just can't be beat.
Dimash, the most beautiful version and the best voice
After listening to so many versions, my heat still goes to Prince Dimash
Beautiful interpretations but Dimash’s performance is the most captivating

i am so glad i discover Dimash through SOS, he is definitely my world best
Before I knew Dimash, I have always preferred Gregory's version which doesn't mean that the others are bad. The very first time that I heard Dimash sing, it was this song and it made me cry for a long time. The portion of the song that made we cry were not the high or low notes, but the singing in between and was very emotional for me. I just wanted to comment since I read someone state that Dimash did not have emotions. I've been a Dimash fan ever since.
100% agree with you word for word and im a big tuff man 6'8 170kg
Dimash singing touches the soul, that's why you cried))) Literally, his SOUL sings.
Dimash is no better than Gregory. Dimash is only technique, no soul in his voice. He sings clearly and flawless like a robot. And Gregory sings through his heart.

Gregory and Dimash is perfect!!!
Dimash by far the best and pleasant to listen to throughout flawlessly from low to high notes and back.
Ina Wolmarans the others are good too !
Everyone is so just incredible singing this very beautiful song, but my heart goes to Dimash 😊
Dimash the king of voices.. Beyond perfection
Dimash phenomenon 😍👏

Dimash is the best 💖
Dimash is exceptionally good
If you take into account that Dimash did not speak one word French before singing this song his performance was even more incredible... And his voice is just outstanding. It's not all about hitting the high notes, it's about nailing them with power and unbelievable volume....
i don't think that he speaks more french after. :-)
From technical point of view, his french is very bad.
This song ( unlike his performance ) is not about giving power to the high note. The high notes are meant to express frailty, to escape from the ground of the reality.
Wrong, the song is about human frailty, the high notes are not there to express power.

A vérifier)
All are good singers, but Dimash is the best!!!
Enfin un qui comprend

Dimash sealed this song up..He is the BEST!!!

Dimash top any one of them.
RIP Grégory Lemarchal ❤️
I love Dimash and Grégory versions of this song. May (whatever) Gods bless them forever.
Yes and that's the problem. The song is not about power but human frailty, the voice is supposed to show that not strength.
Shelly Webster So Dimash should “dumb down” his performance because the original singer wasn’t capable of singing how Dimash can?

@@Nialie Many of these performances were covers.
