  • This documentary special takes viewers on an epic South American adventure to find the actual place that inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lost World, the first novel about people and dinosaurs-the original Jurassic Park.
Following a team of modern adventurers and scientists to the mist-shrouded plateau of Roraima, Venezuela, we encounter exotic animals, Indigenous peoples, and extreme habitat on the route across the Gran Sabana. Once up the 9000 ft. mountain, the team explores a new cave system that may well contain new forms of life.
So fascinating is this new discovery that NASA is now sending a team of their own scientists to Venezuela to further investigate what may lay deep inside the cave.

I have been to Venezuela and I can assure you that country has some of the most unimaginable and jaw-dropping landscapes, flora and fauna anywhere in the planet. Also check out the Auyantepuy (where Angel Falls drops from), the Catatumbo lightning (which regenerates 80% of the destroyed ozone layer) and the Los Roques Archipelago in the Caribbean. This is probably the most underrated country in the planet.

This is one of the few documentaries I have watched several times, each time seeing something I missed before. The new life they discovered is very exciting!! And to think, there is so much more yet to find! I've love the snakes and tarantulas they found. But I have to say, watching that deadly "centipede" and all its creepy legs moving on every segment of its long body, and the cricket in the water, gave me the hebegeebees.

2:40 "Roraima an unexplored place"??? it's a joke? There are Tours to climb on foot and by Helicopter. I have climbed it 3 times. One of the most INCREDIBLE places on earth. By the way...LOCAL people DO NOT Dress as shown in this Documentary They use cellular phones, eat burgers, drink coke... if they get paid, they perform the SHOW. Roraima is a place without observable fauna, only insects, birds and the famous frog of roraima, the rock formations are unique, in Venezuela, there are more than 115 formations like Roraima, they are known as TEPUYS, there is not a single sign of dinosaurs or something similar, Roraima is the most visited. the degree of difficulty of climbing it is 3/10, the "real" difficulty of reaching it is only ECONOMIC since Venezuela suffers from many tourist deficiencies, but with money, EVERYTHING is possible.

What I found fascinating was the mudfossils of a turtle and lying beside it a dinosaur foot... the flowers were beautiful. The spiders and snakes are not impressive to me... I say, leave them alone.. quit stalking them. The cave is, of course, full of life or else spiders & other insects would not be present, so her statement its a desolate cave without life is ridiculous. I believe the village man's story that large birds at one time did prey amongst them... Folklore stories that are hard to believe for you are truer than anyone wants to believe... that lady basically saying the village man's story is a lie because she didn't see it, is just pure ignorance!...🦋

I found the story really sucked me in by the fact these ordinary people were going to take on this extra unordinary feat from Venezuela to the top of the lost world. Every one of the participants really brought a very unique and interesting subject matter expertise and perspective to the entire documentary. i have to give credit to the narrator as their style was very dramatic and made it seem somewhat sensational. Great job by all responsible for the film.

If they were so far, so deep under ground in the caves, how could they see the entrance? How could you see daylight behind them?

Got to love the surprise stumble upon a snake or tarantula with the camera laying directly behind whichever “surprised” them or the bones in the cave that could have been there thousands of years ago with cat and coon tracks in the middle of them

Insects, arachnids, and other creepy crawlies can make fascinating science lessons for kids. They needn’t be venomous or live in exotic locations. When I taught in NYC, I made a week’s multi-disciplinary science unit from a water bug (giant cockroach) found in the school entryway. I got it in a mason jar-nobody touched it--and we learned about its lifecycle, determined its gender, where in the world it evolved, how its ancestors may have come to New York, its role in nature, friends, enemies, food preferences, courting habits, etc. We named it, fed it, wrote scientific paragraphs and imaginary paragraphs about “her.” After a week, we released it in a small park. Only one child and one adult would have nothing to do with it.
That was okay. Humans and many other creatures have a natural revulsion to certain others. In humans, however, it is also “caught” from one’s parents! “Katsaridaphobia.” The child was permitted a choice between two other science assignments. My TA got an extra break!
