It's a lamprey control dam, healthy fish have no issue, when it rains they all easily pass, Bowmanville creek is an excellent salmon and rainbow trout river, since they controlled lampreys on the Great Lakes..in the 1970's... and oh its like a 1/4 mile of lazy stream from the lake, not a long or hard journey yet, they have 25 km of stream to go after this, it is the very beginning of the trip for these staging Salmon. People and dam HELP fish not hurt them, this river runs through a city.
Just went to this place yesterday and felt sad for these fishes. Bad design and i can say you get is reviewed as this is a bad design. If fish can just 3 mt high that comes at a cost (energy). I saw many fishes died next to it trying to jump the ladder and injury marks all over their body.
To all the haters , theses fish probably beat the first good rain of the season. Or it was very dry .could even have been a water control company making bad decisions early in the year .been seeing it happen in New York for the last four years or so
we really know how to mess up a good thing. keep things natural or get these results. They already are stressed due to saline change and long travel. And now we add more obstacles. I appreciate you guys for trying, but damn. We need salmon.
Why do they have to make these fish ladders so difficult to jump!, salmon already put an uphill battle just to ascend the rivers, why make it more difficult!?
Why make it so hard for the salmon to go up river. If you want the salmon fishery healthy make it as easy as possible for them to go up river to breed.
This is a ridiculously stupid design. An example of bad engineering. They need to redesign this! It’s bad enough we ruined the natural flow of the river and then come up with lame attempts to mitigate it. It’s really sad
fish: f**k, who designed this?
Thanks to all of the volunteers that lead to this salmon ladder. Hauling em was rough...
1:11? That's one hell of a ladder. Big step. Maybe a redesign.
fish ladder is more like a fish stopper....

These incredible fish were a gift to us, but because of are greed, selfishness, and mismanagement they are soon gone from us forever!
This is depressing to watch
It's part of their life
Depressing cuz that fish ladder is high for them..😢

They are running right now
Criminal having such an obstacle blocking the salmon's upstream migration! Really sickening!
Thank you very much for these beautiful images. I would like to share on my youtube channel if you have permission. Respects
This is prime example of why our fish stocks are hurting.
It works bowmanville tradition.. it was way worst before

none of the fish make that jump
2 did

American """"""""engineering"""""""
Not a good design ,doesnt seem like a single salmon got up and over the barrier
YOU ! THE COMMENTER !! FOR ONCE CAN YOU HAVE SOME KIND OF INTELLIGENCE !! ??????
THIS IS HORRIBLE..... WE ARE THE WORST SPECIES IN EARTH.
And humans wonder why animals go extinct.
,
Poor fish. What a waste of construction.
That's not a fish ladder.
Looks like a poorly designed fish ladder
Why make it so hard for salmon to travel upstream. It's a terrible design!!!
piss poor design = nil fish making it. What a waste of time.....
