Phil 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
KJV makes it perfectly clear. He knew He was God so had no issue with claiming the worship, praise, authority of God-yet still humbled Himself to serve others-so how dare we get full of pride.

Amen I personally don't read any other version for the fact that I feel other versions take away from the original message of certain verses especially verses that are powerful , I'm asking God to reveal himself through his word God bless you , I truly believe that Jesus is God in the flesh I've been praying on it because it's so easy to be deceived in these trying times.

Grasped also means “comprehend fully”. I’ve always read this passage with that definition in mind - that although he bore the image of God, which is the radiance of the glory of God and an EXACT imprint of his nature (Hebrews 1:3), Christ did not consider his equality with God to be something we could comprehend (fully grasp), so he took the likeness (Form) of a servant (man). When we consider how humans responded to the Lord when he appeared in his natural heavenly form, we know it was terrifying (Exodus 20:19) so terrifying even Moses trembled with fear (Hebrews 12:21). According, he took on a form- Christ Jesus, the man, which was more approachable for man.

Quote "he took on a form- Christ Jesus, the man, which was more approachable for man." Who took on the form of man? Almighty God or his son?

    • @waxwarrior4040
      @waxwarrior4040 6 лет назад +2

Christ is the Almighty God, and he is also the son. "Son of God" is a moniker, a name, a title. See the other places it is used in the Bible, like Genesis 6:2 ~ "the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive"; and Job 1:6 ~ "the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them." In this context, we learn that the term "son of God" is another term for angels. We know that Christ was "The" angel of the Lord from the Old Testament. There is only one Lord. Christ reiterates that in answering the question about the greatest commandment. "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Mark 12:29-30. Note, Christ didn't say the Lord is 3-in-1, but one. If man is made in His image, then we too must be three-in-one. See Genesis 1:26. Are we? YES!!! Every one has a soul (Conscious decision making being), a spirit (life-giving breath/energy), and a body (the host vessel). See 1 Thessalonians 5:23. In this realm, our soul and spirit are housed in this flesh body. In the next, if we are found worthy, we will obtain a glorified body, which Christ tells us is EQUAL to the angels. Luke 20:36 (emphasis added). In the form of Christ, the Lord operates as both the creator and the created in one being. This is how he can say I am in the father, and the father is in me. John 14:11. It explains how the prophecy of Christ refers to him as the "Everlasting Father" (Isaiah 9:6) even though He never procreated with a woman and He specifically taught us not to call anyone on earth "father" b/c we have but one father in Heaven (Matt. 23:9). If He were not the Father, then he would not be referred to as a father. It honors Isaiah 42:8 wherein the Lord says He gives his glory to no one. When does Christ turn the Kingdom back over to God, the Father? At the end of the Millennial Kingdom. Does that imply 2 different beings or does that simply imply that Christ (the human body form of the Lord God Almighty) no longer has a role as the entire kingdom will be transferred over to the glorified state? Does it explain why in Revelations when it talks about "the throne of God and the Lamb" it speaks of a singular throne, not thrones in the plural? When we speak of Christ being seated at the right-hand of the father, is that another metaphor for him being the implement of action in this realm. Isaiah 48:13 ("my right hand spread out the heavens...."). Is Christ sometimes referred to as the Lord's 'righteous right hand"? Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 17:7, Psalm 18:35, Psalm 20:6, Psalm 110:1. We often use the term 'my right-hand man' to refer to someone who carries out our directives with precision, an invaluable servant. This is my understanding based on my evaluation of Scripture and it is what the Spirit has shown me. I'm not trying to persuade anyone, merely laying out the case that convinced me. I find it best to approach the Bible like the Bereans did. Acts 17:11~ "Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." This is exactly the approach encouraged by John. Receive all, but always test it against the Word of God.

Nope. The Greek word has no sense of grasping intellectually. It means physically snatching. Being in the outward appearance of God (John 14:9) he did not consider being equal with God as something to be snatched. This verse actually shows that Jesus is not God.

James Moffat's respected translation reads "Though he was divine by nature, he did not set store upon equality with God but emptied himself by taking the nature of a servant". Many other translations read that Jesus did not try and 'grasp equality' rather than already BEING equal with the Father, infact the OPPOSITE! ( Note; Since Paul uses 'morphe' for both Jesus prehuman and human nature, this surely rules out the the use of 'morphe' ( form) doesnt mean that Jesus was God, in the same way, He wasnt always a man either!

I like your analysis of the text. I would only add that Paul gives the Philippians his greatest example of humility in this passage. What would that be? That true Deity deigned to become one of us to show us how to serve each other in humbleness of spirit and not merely look out for our own interests. This passage is a sublime high water mark in Paul's Christology. Thanks for this video!

Halfway through Piper forgot that Jesus is in the form of God. Jesus, being positioned in the outward appearance of God did not consider being equal to God as something to be seized. But he emptied himself (even though he had the authority of God) and as a human being was obedient to he cross. This passage shows that Jesus and God are different. It shows that Jesus is a human. It shows that Jesus is the last Adam and did not try to seize equality with God as Adam did.

The Greek noun "harpagmos" in Philippians 2:6 comes from the verb "harpazo", which means to "seize hastily", "carry off", "overpower". It means taking or seizing something that does not belong to you. While in heaven before becoming a man, Jesus never considered usurping God's authority by attempting to be equal to him. Jesus set an example for us by being humble and obedient to God.
If it were true that Jesus possessed equality with God before becoming a man, why does Philippians 2:9 say that after his resurrection, God exalted him to an even higher position?

According to Jesus, he worshipped, obeyed and greatly feared God Almighty! Jesus was a faithful servant of his God.
Jesus claimed to be powerless and came with no authority, unless it was given to him by God Almighty. Jesus had a view of his God much higher than himself as we see in the cry of dereliction.
Jesus denied he was God Almighty and never taught that he was God Almighty! Jesus conversed with a man who called Jesus “good", asking Jesus, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." (Luke 18:19)
And Jesus said to him, "Why are you asking me about what is good? There is only one who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." (Matthew 19:17)
Jesus claimed to be a “man” (John 8:40) and "the son of man” (Matthew 16:13). God Almighty clearly tells us in the OT that God is NOT a “man" or, "son of man", or "the son of man” (Numbers 23:19, Hosea 11:9, 1 Samuel 15:29).

Today is January 1. Today is The Festival of The Circumcision and Name of Jesus. Philippians 2:5-11 can be read as a New Testament/Epistle Lesson on this day. It is also read every year on Palm Sunday. Another option for this day is Galatians 4:4-7. And here is hoping that everyone reading this has a Blessed and Happy New Year.

I have asked this question a lot, because as I read through Scripture, both the Old and New Testaments, I cannot answer it to my own satisfaction. (By the way, I do know some Greek but it's a bit rusty at this point.)
John begins his gospel with "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... then says "the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us". But immediately after that John says, "No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."
This is also the gospel of John that has many passages that people say Jesus claimed to be God (before Abraham was, I am; etc.)
Yet John towards the end of his gospel says "But these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God". He does NOT say, which would have been just as simple to do "Jesus is the Christ, he is God".
In John's first epistle, he says that "If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
Yet it is only to the Gospel of John 1:1 that people point to and say "See, it says Jesus is God." I read all of John, and come away with Jesus is the Son of God. I don't see Jesus IS God in that sufficiently enough be certain. But 1:1 DOES say the Word was God, then v14 the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, but then v18 says No man has seen God at any time.
Even in this passage in Philippians there are qualifying phrases that separate Jesus from God. "being in the form of" and "equality with". At what point does the New Testament come out and say "Jesus is God"?
Christian theology tries to make it much simpler. By dogmatically stating that Jesus is God, take it or leave it, here is the Trinity, you must believe.
But I don't hold to catechisms, or creeds, formulated centuries after both Christ and the witnesses of both the Apostles and the early church fathers. I read the Scriptures. This is a very hard question.

It's a question that you have already answered, Jesus is the only begotten son of God. John 1:1 says the word is God, how? The only way you can be in the same form as God is as the greek word γεννάω gennaō says born. Jesus in heaven was begotten(born) from God. (1John 5:1)
Yes only begotten comes from μονογενής monogenēs, but depending on the book, can give a broad meaning. (I don't know greek, but know how to use the tools to understand it.)
The gentleman that did this video showed this right down to the last 20 seconds with good reasoning and then said Jesus is God, obviously having a preformed notion prior to the video.
As John 1:1 says, the word is God, just not Almighty God. Born from God, he is God, God the son, not a trinity, but a separate being, in submission to his father.
No man has seen God at any time is correct, no man has seen Almighty God. Who walked with Adam and Eve? Wrestled with Jacob? Spoke with Moses? It was God, just not Almighty God, but his son in the same form as God.

The word "greater", not just in Greek but even in English can have one or two possible meanings. First it can mean someone who is better in essence and nature, as well as in position in rank. Second, it can mean someone who holds a higher office or status. Example: "My boss is greater than me;" "The President is greater than the Vice President." However, both my boss, as well as the President and the Vice President are fully human. Only the status of the office gives them the greater position than the other. When Jesus said that "the Father is greater than I", did he mean that the Father is better than him in essence, not just superior to him in rank? Or did he mean that the Father is greater than him by virtue of the status in heaven? Because when Jesus said this words, he was on earth and he was yet in his pre-resurrected/pre-glorified state, and had assumed the status of a servant (Phil.2:7-8). So what's the connection of Jesus saying that the father is greater than him to his going away (John 14:28)? It is because if Jesus will remain on earth he will continue in the state of a servant. With that said, he cannot reclaim the glory which he shared with the Father (see John 17:5), and so the Holy Spirit will not come to the believers. Therefore, what Jesus meant by saying "Father who is greater than I" is by virtue of his earthly human status in his pre-resurrected/pre-glorified state.

qgwueirbtbyo Consider the fact that man is made in God’s image. (Genesis 1:26). Then ask yourself are we a trinity? If you search Scripture, you will find that we are. “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:23‬ ‭ESV‬‬. If we are made in His image, then God too must comprise this trinity - Soul is conscience decision-making being (God - the father), Spirit is the breathe or power of life (Holy Spirit), and body is the form His eternal being inhabits. Just like our earthly bodies are not our permanent bodies, Christ, the man, is not the Lord’s permanent form; but rather the one he chose to occupy to come down, fulfill prophecy promising a greater prophet than Moses. Deuteronomy 18:15. He came to demonstrate what living in accordance with the law looked like - humbling himself to point of obedience (even death) because that is what we must do. The Lord took on form of man so He could be the example that we must follow.

Lets use a little logic here! Quoting Phil 2:6,7 to uphold the 'trinity' is flawed! Paul used two words; MORPH & HARPAGMOS. " Though he was in the form ( Morph) 0f God, he laid no claim ( harpagmos) to equality with God" ( 'REB). MORPH = 'to shape', to fashion' 'feature') Used at Mark 16:12 where Jesus appeared in a "diffent FORM as a 'traveller'. ( he was NOT a human traveller, but Jesus!) This shows that 'form of God' does NOT mean he WAS God any more than Jesus WAS the traveller! Secondly; the REB translates "he made NO claim to BE equel with God,". a totally different take to some 'trinitarian' versions that put 'Though He WAS equel with God'! The Greek word HARPAGMOS surely doesnt suggest that Jesus, already BEING equel 'snatched', 'grasped' 'tried to hold onto' equality with God, in fact he did the opposite! All Jesus comments about his coming to earth show it was WILLING "Look in the book it is written about me "I have come to do your will" e.t.c. Then we have the CONTEXT! Phil 2:9 is so clear Paul did NOT view Jesus as being either God or even equel to him for he states "Therefore GOD raised him to the heights & BESTOWED on him the name above all names" then finally, summing up his course of humility. Paul extols the Father with these words! And every tongue proclaim tha Jesus is Lord ( Not God!) TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER". This cliches it! Amen to that

Always remember that. We as humans CAN'T understand God's WISDOM. We call him father because that how close we get to him. God is always testing our FAITH. He might had transform into Jesus to see if we can still believe in him even Though he is in another FACE. "Unto us a child is born, he shall be called a great counselor, Everlasting father, mighty God and the prince of peace"

Where in scripture does it claim that GOD transformed into his own Son? Scripture tells us that it was GOD who sent "His" SON....scripture tells us that God was WITH Jesus!

Does anyone else consider that the title “Son of God” is somewhat of a moniker? In Old Testament, there were many sons of God. Genesis 6:2; Job 2:1; Psalms 82:6. From these passages, it appears the little s, sons of God, refers to the angels. Similarly, the capital ‘S’ Son of God refers to THE angel of the Lord. It was the Angel of the Lord who made covenant with Abraham. Genesis 22:15-18.
It also explains why Christ says those men who are found worthy to attain the age of resurrection shall be EQUAL to angels and shall be sons of God: “for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.” Luke‬ ‭20:36‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Before you even begin your commentary you said that this is about the incarnation. You are bringing a bias into this interpretation. Greek is a very good answer to the question of what is being said in this hymn.

Jesus didn't want equality with God. That's where the word instead comes from.. But look at this verse a little bit deeper. If Jesus is God then how can you have equality with god? And I don't mean this in like a modalistic sense I mean if Jesus is God you wouldn't have to write about his equality with God. That wouldn't make any sense.

Jesus was a Man that's why Paul says he is the Second Adam do you understand me.
Jesus is in the form of God in his resurected Glorified Body even in this state he is still not God the Father!
If you think Jesus is the Word of God as most Trinitarians believe in John1: 1-5 therefore how do you explain these verses in the NT.
36 [ab]But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the Angels of heaven, but my father only.
    Matt 24: 36 GNV
20 [h]Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
21 And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She said to him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one at thy right hand, and the other at thy left hand in thy kingdom.
22 And Jesus answered, and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to [i]drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the [j]baptism that I shall be baptized with? they said to him, We are able.
23 And he said unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and shall be baptized with the baptism, that I am baptized with, but to sit at my right hand, and at my left hand, is [k]not mine to give: but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
    Matt 20: 20-23 GNV
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his servants things which must shortly be done: which he sent, and showed by his Angel unto his servant John.
    Revelation 1: 1.
Extra: Another verse that explains that Jesus is not God the Father!
5 And from Jesus Christ [i]which is that faithful witness, and that first begotten of the dead, and that Prince of the Kings of the earth, unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his blood,
6 And made us Kings and Priests unto God even his Father, to him, I say, be glory, and dominion for evermore, Amen.
    Revelation 1: 5-6

We have been badly deceived to worship our Brother and totally ignore God almighty our Heavenly Father. The Scripture Says all Glory goes to the Father. Can you find 1 place in the Bible from book of acts on where anyone is praying to Worshiping or calling Yahshua God That is his real name. He is Lord and only because his Father made him Lord. Yes He is alive because his Father Raised him. His Father sent Him He called You and gives you all blessings. Don't you think He should get the Praise. ALL GLORY was to be given to God but because of the Trinitarian lie people have begun to worship our Brother a created being instead of God, our Father! They pray and sing most songs to the glory of Jesus. I can’t think of one song that glorifies the Father! Gal 1:4-5 Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. 5 ALL GLORY TO GOD (our Father) FOREVER AND EVER ! Amen.
Phil 1:11 May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation-the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ-for this will bring MUCH GLORY AND PRAISE TO GOD (our Father). Phil 4:19-20 and this same GOD (our Father) who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his (our Father’s) GLORIOUS RICHES, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. 20 Now ALL GLORY TO GOD our FATHER FOREVER AND EVER AMEN. 1 Tim 1:16-17 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in Him and receive eternal life. 17 ALL HONOR AND GLORY TO GOD (our Father) forever and ever! 18He (our Father) is the ETERNAL KING, the unseen one who never dies; HE ALONE IS GOD AMEN.
How many times will the Scripture’s have to say that there is only one God, the Father and all honor and Glory goes to him, before we believe it? These Few Verses in Ephesians will teach you a lot about God our Father! Eph 3:14-20 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and PRAY TO THE FATHER 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his (our Father’s) GLORIOUS UNLIMITED RESOURCES he will empower you with inner strength through HIS (OUR FATHERS) SPIRIT. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into GOD (our Father’s) LOVE and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all GOD’S (our Father’s) PEOPLE SHOULD, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his (our Father’s) LOVE IS. And give thanks FOR EVERYTHING TO GOD THE FATHER in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. You should read that again and try to work a trinity into those wonderful words about our Father. Never mind, no place for a trinity found there! If that Doesn’t open your eyes to the fact that our Father alone is God and that everything comes from Him and He alone gets all the glory. Then you are not going to let Gods word have the last say! You are holding on to your vane traditions

Well said, but you said Jesus was created. The greek word γεννάω gennaō G1080 for begotten is: born. Jesus in heaven was born from his father. Being born from Almighty God Jesus is God, but not Almighty God. Jesus is still the son, still in submission to his father, but in the same form as God.
That is why Almighty God can truly say "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
John 1:1 and the word is God, yes, just not Almighty God. No one has seen God at anytime, correct, no one but Jesus has ever seen Almighty God. But they say the God the son, walked with him in the garden of Eden, wrestled with him, Moses spoke to him. The Son is not Almighty God, not part of a trinity with Almighty God, he is the only begotten son of Yahweh.

Let’s look at Heb 1:2-7 God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. 3 The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. 4 This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names. The Son Is Greater Than the Angels 5 For God never said to any angel what he said to Yahusha: "You are my Son. Today I have become your Father. "God also said, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son." 6 And when he brought his firstborn Son into the world, God said, “Let all of God's angels worship him."
      • God says Yahusha reflects his Glory if he was God he would radiate his own Glory.
      • Why would he get a place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven if he is the majestic God
      • God gave him his inheritance and his authority. If he was God nobody would have to give him anything.
      • God Named Him. If he always existed his Father would not have to name him.
      • God says he is greater than the angels if he was God why would this have to be said! Do you think someone needs to say the Father is greater than the angels?
      • God told the angels to worship him if he was God the angels would already be worshiping him.
Lets go on Heb 1:8-9 your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. You rule with a scepter of justice. 9 You love justice and hate evil. Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else." Here we see the Father calling Yahusha God (Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you,) yes Yahusha is a God but he has a God, his Father God all mighty. The only true God.
The Father is the one that has given Yahusha everything. His inheritance, his Authority, his Name, His exalted position. And then it was Him that commanded that Yahusha should receive Worship. Well however much Yahusha is a God that is how much of a God you will Be also. Is that Blastmaphy to say that? No it is the Word of God. As you enter the family of God you are loved just as much as the Father loves Yahusha You receive the same power and authority that Yahusha received, you receive Worship by the lost. You rule the world along side Yahusha. You even inherit God’s Glory along with Yahusha. Wow hard to Believe God loves us like that. That He would share His Glory with his Children. Thank you Yahuwa My blessed Father.
      • Are there any other places in God’s word where Yahusha says he has a God? When Yahusha rose from the dead he told Mary to go tell his brothers that he ascends to His Father and Our Father to his God and our God. Several points need to be made, while we are here, first Yahusha has a God and it happens to be the same God that we have. Here again he plainly says that he is our Brother and that we have the same Father.
      • Even in heaven Yahusha says that he has a God. He told John in the Book of Revelations, Rev 3:12-14 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: Yahusha has a God because He is God’s Son. Why not just believe the Scripture?

Seems you missed what I said. Was Jesus born from God or was he created?
You were born from your mother, did you become a dolphin? No, that foolish.
Jesus was born from his father, what does he become?.......not created, not an angel.
there is one God in the universe that is more powerful than any other god, Yahweh.
Are there not other god's? Yes. Elohim is God plural, hmmm.
Let us make man in our image. Who's image? Almighty God and a created being? No.
Almighty God himself said many times throughout the bible that He was the one true God, why? Why would he have to say that, doesn't everyone know that? No, they don't.
Never did I say Jesus always existed, Jesus had a beginning in heaven, born from his father.
I don't dispute that Jesus has a God, never said that, that's what being in subjection means.
Why does John 1:1 say the word is God?
Why does the bible say Jesus is begotten(born) from Almighty God, that God had begot(birthed) him. (1 John 5:1)
Why can God only say to Jesus “You are My Son, Today I have **begotten** You”?
In oldest manuscripts why does it say that Jesus is the only begotten God?(John 1:18)
How is it that no one has seen Almighty God? Who walked with Adam and Eve? Who wrestled with Jacob? Who Did Moses see, who did he talk to?
I see why you don't get it, Quote "You are my Son. Today I have become your Father. " watered down version.
“You are My Son, Today I have **begotten** You”
If you had "begotten" in your bible or knew about it, we possibly wouldn't be discussing this.
There are no perfectly translated bibles, but you have to use either a few interlinear bibles or a few different versions of the bible. There are mistranslations. Once you know all major bible errors made by man, then it doesn't matter what bible version you use.
