The way she sings "you know that she should be screaming" followed by the synth hook returning just always evokes a visceral reaction in me. Just pure chills.
@@Blitzbrie lol, do you not understand what I mean? You said: "Envokes a visceral reaction". "Just pure chills". I said "calm down". Not "weird" at all; perfectly appropriate, as you sound all wired up and emotional.
There's a webcomic called "Sleepless Domain" that I started to read just when this album came out. I immediately knitted this song and that comic together hard, and its just carried over since.
I absolutely LOVE the fact that this song is inspired by the concept of Final Girl in horror movies (within the Slasher genere for the most part) and their strength for outsmarting and outrunning the killer, combined with what it's like to navigate society as a woman in the every day life. Sidney Prescott, Laurie Strode, Ellen Ripley, Sally Hardesty, Clarice Starling, Nancy Thompson, Sarah Connor, Grace Le Domas etc etc are so heavily channeled in these sounds. Thanks, Chvrches!!!!
To me it sounded like a bit of a throwback to bands like Simple Minds -- and that's /good/ thing. Maybe it's time for them to move on to a bigger sound.
Great song with a bass line that straight rips! Nightmares is my favorite. There's another thing though, this album is quickly and surely moving toward my favorite Chvrches albums! Not yet but just sayin. 😂❤😂❤
I have - because of my ptsd soaked life - always associated with the Final Girl/Boy - this song caused me to break down in tears, it’s beautiful and I love it.
I literally thought it was that song until the lyrics kicked in. I'm no musician but there's definitely something in common there. The hook on this is fantastic however and I love both of these songs.
I'm a straight up metalhead to the core... but I came across this album and I gotta say, it's a nice change of pace from what I usually listen to and quite relaxing. I dig it 🤘
Curious why when someone listens to metal you usually label yourself as if it's a sin to listen to anything else? Isn't music just music? Either way enjoy!

I was stuck on their first album for basically the past decade. I basically ignored everything else they did because I couldn't get over how good the first album was. I've recently been going back through their discography and their last two releases were honestly really good, but this one is amazing. I'd say it's basically on par with their debut which is saying something! Their debut is one of my favorite albums of all time and I think it will always be my favorite of theirs because it holds a special place in my heart, but honestly this album is so fire and they knocked it out of the park. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The first album of theirs that I heard was the second one, which has one of the best one-two opening punches for an album I've ever heard. The third album was good, but it's taken a while for some songs to really mature in my mind. *Violent Delights* really brought me back to them big time. And then, I finally got back to the first one... And it's a good thing I heard them in that order, because the 2nd album would have disappointed me otherwise. The debut really monopolized my listening time for months!
@@patrickfitzgerald9589 Yeah! You totally get what I mean. I'm glad I got into them when the debut was all they had, but I was stuck on it for a long time because it's so good. I really think this album was where they mastered their sound fully though. Amazing record! I still listen to it all the time ^_^
This reminds of a song by an incredibly obscure band called The Spirits, it came out in the early 90s and was called Drive. It’s on YT, it’s such an underrated song. This reminds me of that song. So good. Lauren is a national treasure and needs to be protected at all costs.
The bands you discovered and loved when you are growing up will never fade away. You'll be looking back at this album 20 years later with great nostalgia. So it's a pretty legit band/music to get into. This band has a timeless quality to it that I honestly think it will stand the test of time. If you can catch them live you just gotta. Work/beg/steal?(j/k) to catch a show if you can. I'm just an old bastard, but the band I enjoyed in my youth are still awesome to me.

Literally this is my Car song. Going to work, a moorland drive bloody brilliant Chvrches. My son who heard this said dad whos this i replied "legends son". Hes bought all your albums and a tee lol he loves you guys and obviously Lauren
I'm completely new to CHVRCHES and i LOVE this album! Bought the Screen Violence vinyl, cant wait for it to arrive :) Was introduced to them through Death stranding if anyone was curious haha.
Preaching to the choir here, but this album is phenomenal. Feeling the same excitement I did when I first heard The Mother We Share on the radio back in 2013. Stellar stuff.
I always have a hard time deciding which album is the best so far. I always placed The Bones of What You Believe at first, obviously, since the album is full of great songs. Hard to decide whether Every Open Eye or Screen Violence is my second favorite album of theirs. This song always reminded me that Screen Violence is better than Every Open Eye. Just simply goosebumps every time I listen to this song.
I hadn't heard modern pop that I liked in a long freaking time, until I came across CHVRCHES. Well done music, thoughtful lyrics. Cheers to this band from an old metalhead.
The guitar in this song's chorus gives it such a unique character, feels like a totally new sound from CHVRCHES, and quite a good one at that
Guitar reminds of a Paramore sound
The guitar on the chorus is Marr level.
Reminds a bit to the INXS riffs
Despite the fact that it is a new sound, deep inside it still reminds CHVRCHES style. That is awesome
Definitely, yet Lauren's voice pulls it right back to that Chvrches sound...very cool
This and Violent Delights are just amazing.
yazzz
Classic Chvrches song, has it all: beat, melody, lyrics and vocals. Definitely my favorite one so far. Only time will tell.
Indeed
Churches has nice mix of new sounds and old school electric vibes.
Agreed, my favorite on the new album
It's actually pretty different from their previous stuff. This is an actual rock song. But it is also my favorite.
,,, and the entire album sounds like... ¡glory!
The chorus has such a palpable feeling of frustration and fatigue. Kudos to Lauren for channeling those feelings.
The way she sings "you know that she should be screaming" followed by the synth hook returning just always evokes a visceral reaction in me. Just pure chills.

Bass line = goddamn incredible
¿No prey for the guitar in F.G.?
it plays off the guitar so perfectly.
Correct! That bass line is dope af!
Paramore regrets not writing it
This sounds like it came straight out of the 90's,
Great song.
What? Wrong decade.
This song literally saved my life by giving me the courage to leave my abuser for good.

This track and Asking for a Friend make this album a masterpiece.

I love the guitar and bass on this song
One of the best on the album, it's so dreamlike and emotional. Sucks me right in

The vibe hits me so hard 💕
There's something quite Dubstar-y about the chorus of this one, especially the guitar melody. And that is definitely a good thing!
i kept thinking it reminded me of something but couldn't place it... Dubstar might be it.
This is a really well done, really sad song
It just doesn't >sound< that sad, musically

I love that the track immediately following the Robert Smith feature sounds EXACTLY like it came straight out of The Cure’s discog.
