I didn't have any issues after the first two covid vaccine doses. I did get covid 8 months after vaccination and even though it was extremely mild that's where I hit some major issues after getting over the infection. I ended up with long haul covid. The fatigue was horrible and my HR was everywhere. I couldn't do any riding or exercising as the fatigue would just hit back harder. Previously my resting HR was 58bpm. After covid it would be 90bpm just lying in bed but it would plummet to 48bpm while asleep! So my resting HR dropped by 10bpm. Conversely any kind of effort while awake made my HR spike about 20bpm higher than it used to be. Six months after covid I got the booster shot and it knocked out 90% of the long covid symptoms. I slowly worked my way back into riding but anything on the trainer over 45mins was hard to recover from even just sustaining easy efforts in upper zone 1 to low zone 2. Oddly, this wasn't such an issue riding outdoors where I could ride 2 hours without any unexpected after effects. My resting HR slowly recovered down from 48 back to 55 which was close to pre-covid. I was getting back into decent shape but 8 months out from my last booster shot I'm again sitting here and have just gotten over covid again last week. Symptoms were practically non-existent but my wife tested positive and I have hints of familiar and specific symptoms that I've only felt with covid. The brain fog, disorientation when turning my head side to side, stiff neck with headaches, some heavy heart beats, and insomnia. All of it is much less severe this time around so I'm desperately hoping it clears up quickly with no lasting effects like last time. Time will tell but right now I'll be taking all the time that I need to rest. This series was great and has really given me a few things to look out for when I get back into rebuilding my fitness. I've felt like my aerobic fitness has always been terrible and I'd love to see what my Z2 heart rate drift ends up being and if I can get it lower.
I am in the UK, and have had 3 Pfizer jabs. Two plus a booster. Other than a day of fatigue after the first jab I haven’t seen any adverse health effects at all. I monitor my waking heart rate and HRV daily, ride 3-5 times a week with HR and power monitored - all recordings, during and after rides are as I would have expected with no changes I can detect, every ride and reading is on Strava for the record. Good luck Neill and well done for sticking to it and making great progress! 👍
It's great to see you have recovered very well and we wish you the best on your future cycling endeavours! Yes Neill has done very well indeed! -RCA Team
What a blessing it is you didn't suffer any side effects from the covid vaccine but unfortunately since the vaccine heart conditions have sky rocked. I'm glad you're were not affected but I will never take that vaccination. Good luck on you're cycling journey!
For almost a decade the required flu vaccine for the military almost instantly knocked me down. The short lived flu mist (administered nasally) gave me myocarditis. During that time, learned after the fact, had a significant tooth abscess from a few botched root canals. After surgery to finally/completely remove the abscess, did not have adverse reactions to annual flu vaccine. Moral of the story, if you have an underlying issue that your immune system is fighting, can lead to interesting effects. Especially with a novel and less tested treatment like the mist or these liability free experiments. 30+ years of military service and more than a few experimental injections (where known risks were not communicated), I’ll take my less than 2% chance. But then, I have no comorbidities or risk factors. Be well and do what is right for you!
Great to see some real world challenges and results, can really relate to this, also can confirm I had similar heart rate impact from the Covid vaccine!! Thanks Cam and Neil
Training around work and 'a normal life' can be hard at times but it's pretty awesome to see people who achieve this and we can definitely take motivation from it! -RCA Team
you had no level of protection before? How much absolute risk reduction did you experience and how did you quantify that conclusion? Im just curious since you are a science person.
Same story here. It has been 5 months after my 2nd vac and resting HR is about 10 beats higher. On the bike 10 to 20 beats, high intensity still feels terrible and I don't improve anymore. Still improvements with the low intensity stuff. I've been taking it easy the last weeks and it seems to help, or maybe the side effects are finally starting to go away. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to the 3rd shot. I truly hope you will fully recover and it would be interesting to hear about this in the future.
Unless you are in a high risk category, the real long term risk of another jab may outweigh the “benefit” you get…especially as we transition to endemic.
Interesting that Neil said his maximum and resting HR jumped after COVID. I had I back in March and the same thing happened to me. I'm mid thirties and was 4.2wkg. Substantial time off high intensity didn't change that.
Thanks for sharing Andrew. It was after the jab though, not COVID itself. But conscious both the virus and the jab can do the same thing! Hope you get back to full health soon. Cam
I'm happy to see you're not afraid to talk about the side effects of the jab. My best friend and closest riding buddy received his and after the booster he now lives with an irregular heart beat. Sometimes it's simply impossible for him to ride his bike anymore. Good work on the training and hope he continues to keep it up!
A similar thing happened to me after my 2nd Pfizer - I didn't realise it was so common but it's interesting to see I wasn't 'imagining' it. A few days after my 2nd jab I was doing my normal hill reps when my garmin started to flash max HR, then it happened again on my next run. I couldn't train at normal levels and I felt really fatigued when training for several weeks. Although feeling better now I'm reluctant to have the booster but am seeing a cardiologist next week for advice.
Temporary fatigue is pretty normal after the shots Gareth, as the spike protein hit drags your immune system. Be worried if it goes on beyond 4-6 weeks I reckon. - Neill
Hi there. I had the Pfizer shots back in April of 2021. By June my resting HR when waking up was up from 40 to about 52. My temperature was up from 96.8 to 98 + and my blood pressure was up to 160/98. Surprising since I have had very stable vitals forever. I even took a COVID test and came back negative. Ended up at a cardiologist and ran a echocardiogram that came back normal and blood work that showed elevated platelets and cholesterol. While going through this I kept doing my runs but kept a close eye on my hr.. it was elevated by about 15 beats consistently and I was trying to run as slow as I could. Barely breaking a sweat. This went on for about 4 weeks…..then back to normal. Nobody can explain what happened. I’ve not gone for my booster!
Yes I had myocarditis as well. I got a bit of fatigue as well but probably not that bad as you seems to say. My heart rate was clearly off. All returned to normal about 3 months later. No lasting damage.
I track my HR very closely as I have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Apart from a period of tachycardia for several hours after the 2nd jab (140ish) slow walking for example I didn't notice any sustained impacts to my RHR of any of the two jabs nor the booster
Really enjoyed Zero to Hero. Lots of similarities to my personal circumstances - 2 young kids, sleep deprived, work commitments, got COVID (Dec 15 = crappy run-in to Christmas!), had to take time off. Just getting back into things now. Keep up the good work lads
The Work/Family/Training Balance can be quite hard to manage at times for sure! Can only do what we can that's why having a time effective training plan is very beneficial. Makes every moment count. Keep up the great works]. -RCA Team
I had day about 2 weeks after Cv19 jab where I could not get my HR down post ride. It stayed at 120 fore about 9 hrs post ride despite 5liters of fluid. My resting hr has also gone up from 48-53 to mid 60s
@@roadcyclingacademy hi Cam and RCA team, thank all is getting back to normal now. Hope your break is going as plan and you are good. looking forward to the content on both channels going into this year keep up the good work .
Buderim 9. Great event! Altho when I did it I was in the lead bunch for a few climbs but there were some NRS riders in there that took off at about the 3rd hill at well over 400W's and that was that! They must have just been cruising before then... But bit of a worry about Neil, but hopefully no lasting damage and he comes right in time. Great having before and after data though which would be quite helpful to the Dr's I imagine. Best of luck Neill!
Hi Cam and Neil, I had AZ with the 2nd jab late Aug. By the 2nd week in September I was out for 2 weeks with little to no energy. Back on the bike and I noticed all the vitual rides on Tacx were slower by 2 to 3 minutes. Prior to this times were coming down. I then completed a hilly ride in early Dec only to have my max heart jump to from 181 to 202 and I'm 51. Feeling better now but won't be rushing to get 3rd jab.
I had the exact same experience and felt fatigued even 2 months after the second vaccine. Heart rate was elevated doing just simple zone 2 training. Resting heart rate was also up 5-10 beats. Now, four months after I am back to my ftp level pre-vaccine.
Hi. Great video series. I can confirm that my heart rate has been slightly elevated since having covid in early December 2021. Still have slightly higher RHR and higher by about 10% when cycling.
I had the same side effects after my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine - chronic fatigue for 3-4 weeks and heart rate (both resting and during exercise) elevated by approx 10%, followed by gradual improvement over the next 8 weeks. Heart rate is currently about 5% above where it was prior to receiving the second dose, and performance on the bike probably about 5% worse.
Thanks for sharing on the thread Evan, glad to hear you've been on the gradual improve. I am sure Neill will appreciate hearing your experiences. Cheers, Cam
Same for me. After 2nd vaccine started problems and only after months it started to be ok, but then came 3rd Pfizer and again FTP dropped, fatigue, HR raised.. not doing this shit anymore
I also had performance side effects for a few days after getting the vaccine. It wasn't as bad as when I actually had covid a year ago though. It could have been worse but I was coughing and felt fatigue and shortness of breath for about a month. Did zero exercise during that month.
I just recently got over Covid. One day of a mild flu and two days of legit head cold. I've been 'healthy' for a week now and have noticed that my heart rate is elevated on endurance rides by 15bpm. I asked a doctor about this and apparently it's normal and could be a thing I'll deal with for weeks or even months.
2 years later, so... and I did no sport at all in the time when I was vaccinated because I had to care for my old father. That said - after the first shot I felt like having a flu, feaver and so on, but I got over it relatively quick. After the second shot I had no heavy symptoms, but I felt weak and my resting heart rate went up 10-15 bpm, and that was the case for many many weeks. Finally god better, not quite where I was once, but of course the circumstances of life where not easy and I did no sport. Started just recently, lets see wether I can get to the fitness I once had......
Got the Pfizer jab and my heart rate went to 160 within 15 minutes of the jab. It stayed at 120-180 all day and night for 3 days straight. My resting heart rate went from 52-54 to 72-76 and has remained that way for the last year since the jab despite dropping 40lbs and being in the best cardio shape of my life. My heart beat also goes over 100 from just climbing a flight of stairs. Prior to that I could deadlift 475lbs for reps or ride at 18 mph on level ground all day an it would never go above 110-120. My heart beat now just skyrockets at the slightest hint of physical activity
2 Pfizer shots plus Moderna booster here. With every single shot I asked the doctors what to do with training and physical activity in general and each they suggested some "take it easy" if not rest days. After the booster however I got some symptoms (fever, tiredness, etc.), but it lasted a couple of days. No strange fluctuations in HR, and I have a Garmin watch always on my wrist
Athletes know our bodies and how we feel and our data over the longterm. This is not the first side effect story I've heard. Would love to know how this turns out. Please continue being honest about this as we need real-world data! People will try to tell you there is no correlation, but in your soul you know.
Hi, Super interesting video and I’ve had exactly the same reaction to the second dose of the Covid vaccine….for 2-3 months my heart rate was so allover the place when trying to perform interval training and working to a plan ( set by a coach). Even on my Z2 rides I set a record HR of 197bpm for a constant 10mins…I was informed by Trainingpeaks after the ride. I was so confused by the data I was getting that I even bought a new HR monitor but the data was the same. I was using Whoop and a HR strap while riding, both showed crazy HR fluctuations. Thankfully from my side my HR as normalized now and I’m back to my resting of about 41bpm (47 years old). Strangely I just received a sms saying I can get my 3rd dose now. I’m really not sure what to do about that….the thought of months off the bike doesn’t appeal or the feeling or not know how my heat is reacting. Thx for sharing as it doesn’t seem that data for this kind of thing isn’t really out there?
Because this isn't classed as a "severe" adverse reaction, (meaning we weren't hospitalised with high grade cardiac injury) it's not picked up in any of the research for the MrNA shots. Things to be aware of; 1) the risk of this type of thing is likely compounding with each shot 2) the side effect profile exists on a sliding scale - so you might have 5% of your heart tissue damaged by the spike protein hit, and maybe next time it will be 20%, or none, or anywhere in between? 3) Omicron isn't that nasty for most healthy young people 4) The protection from severe disease that the shots give falls to nearly zero after 4-5 months. Are you willing to have an infinite number of these over time, or draw the line somewhere? Tricky call! -Neill
Had the exact same issue after my second dose. Waking up feeling like lethargic like id had zero restorive sleep, RHR through the roof, HRV through the floor, tight chested and short of breath. Tracked all on my oura ring so gives me good data to provide the gp on consult this week. Have taken almost 8 weeks off all training with no improvement which certainly concerns me with a third ha going over our head. Any papers or research you could link would be greatly appreciated.
Would highly recommend further research before getting another. There is concern consecutive shots can compromise the immune system. 47 with RHR of 41, you sound fit with a significantly smaller risk profile. Anecdotally, we are six siblings around your age and fitness level (no co-morbidities), the two vaxed for work requirements are the only two to also get Covid after. Others had been using C,D/K, quercitin to keep immune system strong. Good luck and be well.
Great video again guy love your work. For Neil I have a whole year of data with my HRV nearly doubling after I had the vaxes. My Dr. could not explain it to me when I went to have my bloods done again even when I show the data. Heartrate has increased by 6-10 beats as I do this every morning. Would be interested to see how you go. Cheers
just out of curiosity, Can we get an update on this? I know that a lot of athletes, cyclists and pros suffered from similar things and some even say it never really went away and their fitness doesnt return to the expected levels for a year. and then they catch Covid again and it starts again. Would you care to shar your thoughts or what you found yourself and in the research you mentioned?
Normall the fastest time up Norton Summit in Jan is sub 12 by a local rider. We are 2 weeks in and the fastest isnt even faster than my PR! All these heart issues and fatigue with good riders.....I think it is just a coincedience. These jabs have done years of testing prior yeah? This isnt the worlds biggest medical trial ever. Im off to get my 5th this week. Cant have too many layers of protection and its all safe right?
This technology has never before been used on humans for the purpose of vaccination - MRNA as used in the Pfizer and Moderna jabs is a new technology which had not completed the second stage (of four stages) of testing prior to international deployment. Respectfully, I suggest you do your research starting with the FDA and the CDC
I know some people have had vaccine side effects hang on for a while. But I have had COVID for nearly 2 weeks and it's looking like a long recovery ahead. I've been unable to do much physical activity at all. I get dizzy and light headed very easily. I constantly am short of breath. Never had anything like this from the vaccines and really wish I'd been able to get my third shot before contracting the real thing. I've had to cancel my Peaks Challenge entry and am facing losing a lot of fitness. I was the fittest and fastest I'd ever been when I caught the virus.
Hey David, we are sorry to hear that you have contracted the virus. The whole RCA team wish you the best recovery and hope to see you hitting your goals soon!
Hope you're feeling better! Sometimes we have to readjust our goals, and it is disappointing, but the important thing is to take care of your long term health. Good luck!
I noticed after each of the 2 AZ vaccine doses that my heart rate elevated by around 10bpm. It took me close to 3 months after the second vax for my heart rate to come back down to normal. I am yet have a booster and am a little trepidacious about how long the effect may last this time.
Noticed the exact same thing. I have had the AstraZeneca jab and my Whoop consistently reports elevated heartrate for a prolonged period after each jab.
Hi there, noticed the same in my hr. 5-10 bpm higher on zone 2 endurance rides and my max hr jumped about 10 bpm. Going to see a doctor for yearly checkup soon and will get bloodwork and look into it as well.
So I pretty much had the same problems as Neil described after my Covid shots, although they did go away for me after a couple of weeks. My first shot was Johnson and my HR definitely went up into the sky after that and stayed there for probably 2-3-4 weeks. I noticed that first when cycling, if my HR would usually be around 125-130 when doing zone 2, after the shot it would go up to 140 and even more. Then I tracked it down using my Garmin watch and the rest HR went up, too, obviously. After my second Pfizer shot I pretty much had the same issue for probably around 2 to 3 weeks, but it's all good now.
Thanks for addressing the elephant in the room that everyone (with the exception of DR) is tip toeing around, definitely a treatment that is better avoided if involved in athletic activity. Despite Neill's misfortune with the treatment and the other hiccups encountered along the way he is still testament to the fact that your training plan works.
Yes i had HR side effects from double Moderna jab. Its taken close to 3 months for my HR to match pre jab bpm to power ratio. For 1st month after it was very obvious i couldnt get my hr up. Sweet spot efforts my HR 1 day wood be 20 bpm lower than the day b4 and trying to do threshold efforts i wood only be at what sweet spot HR woodve normally been. So i wood stop the workout. I do still have some odd HR days now 3 months later but basically back to normal.
@@roadcyclingacademy its happened 2 more times, im going to go see a doctor to get them to check my heart out. Today i had a race i had tapered for and felt great physically, but my power was down almost 15% to my std hr lvls. I shoukdve pb'd today. Concerning
I had that similar effect from Covid & vaccines which has combined seen my resting HR go a bit up, but it has stabilized down to some 42-43 bpm of resting heart rate now nearly a year after I had my last brush with both, which although is not as low as it ever was - I've seen 38-39 four years ago - is better than the 46-47 I've been seeing after covid & vaccination season (it's hard to tell them apart). The good thing is that my power curve has at all durations been improving year on year despite everything and race times on the same races have been getting better, so
I had Moderna booster nearly two weeks ago. My heart is running 10-20bpm higher than normal at rest and at about the same when I’m doing mild to moderate intensity rides. It’s way too easy to get close to max heart rate for me at the moment, which isn’t good.
Hey Lars, According to Whoop data being collected this can be a semi common occurring usually resolving over a few weeks to months. We hope you get back to smashing your goals soon! -RCA Team
Neil should see a cardiologist regarding his issue immediately There has been a tie to pericarditis to the Covid vaccines. (Pericarditis is swelling and irritation of the thin, sac like tissue surrounding your heart (pericardium). Pericarditis often causes sharp chest pain and sometimes other symptoms. The chest pain occurs when the irritated layers of the pericardium rub against each other.) Often there is no pain but other symptoms include HR irregularities and fatigue. Make sure to tell your cardiologist the issue occurred or seems to have occurred after your Covid shot..(or as you guys say "jab") My guess is they will recommend some labs and an echocardiogram to take a look to see whats happening. Though most of the pericarditis cases they are seeing related to vaccinations are minor and usually will self correct. However, being an athlete and pushing the heart harder than a typical person you should have this checked so as not to do any permanent damage. Good luck but don't delay!
I'm on the waiting list Jeff, but they are so inundated with similar cases that the backlog is huge at the moment and it will be a while before I can get in. I think by then my symptoms will have disappeared and it will be an exercise in futility doing an ECG most likely. The question is; how many more boosters should I get if the risk is compounding over time? - Neill
@@roadcyclingacademy Neill I would recommend to workout at a lesser level staying out of the red zone as permanent damage possibly could occur. I assume you've consulted a physician regarding the symptoms since you are on a waiting list for an echo. I think it would still be prudent to do the echo if nothing else but piece of mind and future baseline reference data. I recently experienced what they believe was a "TIA" transient ischemic attack or mini stroke about an hour after completing a ride on Zwift. Fortunately the symptoms resolved quickly (5 minutes) with no issues. However due to my age (69) my Dr thought it best to go a full series of tests which included labs, CT scan, EKG and ECG wearing a HR monitor for 14 days (checking for potential afib) MRI of brain. Yet everything has come back great. The Dr knows me and my fitness level from riding and working out. The only thing we are curious about is I had a moderna booster about 10 days prior to the event...so I'm kind of in the same boat as you regarding future boosters with some concerns if in fact the booster had any relevant role. Of course age could play a role in my case as well which is why she wanted the full battery of tests. I guess the good thing is I know all is good as far as can be checked (carotids, brain, heart) I'm certainly not an anti vaccer but know there is a lot we still don't know about the possible side effects of the vaccines. Hang in there and I hope you are feeling better and they can get you in for the tests sooner than later. Safe riding, -Jeff
@@jeffdavis5841 getting tests done as a baseline for comparison is a really good idea. Hopefully they won't be necessary, of course, but if there are further concerns down the line it is useful to have something to compare to.
Excellent results. However, @ 62KG I an willing to bet that Neil was an excellent climber when he was at his prime, it looks like we picked a "Goal ride" that suits his talents
I had covid (mild symptoms), but HR was a mess for 1-2 months post recovery. Roughly 15 beats higher vs before @ same pace. I however didn’t have a noticeable increase with the vax
Well done Neil. Apparently going into the cold sea or the ice bath etc. can help reduce the heart rate. Hope everything settles down and your heart rate returns back to normal.
After my Pfizer vaccines my heart rate was fluctuating alot and my resting heart rate was all over the place for a long time. Recently caught covid and had a couple weeks doing no exercise and my resting rate seems to finally be back to normal. Was worried for a while after the vaccines, for sure. Great series though and good luck!
I just took the 3rd Jab and after each jab, my HR went higher with the same effort (be it cycling or running). It takes around 10 to 12 weeks to get back to my previous fitness level each time. it's part of the COVID package, I guess. I was alarmed initially, but I am not too concerned now.
Is it true that fitness always stays for some part when you’ve trained a lot in the past? I had been cycling competitively for 8 years in 2018 and then quit cycling until 2020. Didn’t ride a bike once. Started cycling again during the lockdown and in only 2-3 months I was already close to where I was before. Just did a lot of riding without any specific intervals (lots of hills though so kind of like an interval session every ride).
I would say so. Older brother was a CAT2 racer for years. He could stay off the bike for the same amount of time and always came back quicker than the rest of the other three brothers. Could also be a function of mental, technique, or muscle brain connection to get more benefit from each ride. I always said it was gear, until I got the same bike🤦♂️
Hey! It is true that having a long term 'base' will dramatically improve your ability to bounce back from training and taking prolonged time off. Muscle memory kicks in and they remember how to fire properly and more efficiently after only a few rides back! -RCA Team
I lost my job because of the mandates in WA. My mates sister has heart issues now because of the jab. I wish you well and hope you recover and that the damage isn't permanent.
Great effort and time Neill and Cam, it's not an easy course, definitely helps being 60kg. Have done it a number of times but at 90kg it's hard yakka but very satisfying to break the 3hr cut off. Keep up the great work and content and happy New Year
Agreed, I've always been this way. I can produce 10-15% more on the road, particularly up a climb, that I ever can on a trainer - so the values get skewed a bit for trainer tests. I don't think I can shed core body heat quickly enough on a trainer, even with lots of fans! - Neill

I unfortunately contracted covid with symptoms over the past week, I have noticed my heart rate has increased during and after. That being said, I don’t think this is going to be permanent, I’ll be off to get my booster in a month.
get a double booster just to be sure bro! 3 jabs in under a year is very normal for a vax for sure. I mean heaps of people did 3-4 rounds of MMR jabs and got MMR still right?
@@DurianriderCyclingTips what’s a “normal” vaccination protocol… should we treat every single disease with same program? We have HepB programs that are taken 3 of 2 times within in a year.

I had the exact same experience and side effects as Neil after getting the second Pfizer shot in September. My resting heartrate is still ~10bpm higher than previous. My FTP initially fell ~30watts but is slowly recovering. I still have higher heartrates at sub-threshold exertion.
I had sinovac shot last year and my resting HR went down, it even lower with 2nd shot.. i notice it because i monitor my resting hr & hrv using both hrv4training program & smart watch..
HR got a bit higher after booster but back to normal after a few weeks. Would rather have a temporary side effect than life changing potentially permanent effects or dying.
I had the same symptoms but I don't think its vaccine related - I've only had the first jab here in the UK, not the second and not the booster either. I experienced really nasty fatigue that kept me away from training for 3 months and even off work for a week. Resting HR was also 10 bpm higher than normal.
I had zero side affects both from the Pfizer jabs last summer as from the Moderna booster this christmas. Just a sore shoulder for a day and maybe a day a bit off. If it wasn't for the sore shoulder I would probably not have noticed. Beats all the stories I heard from people who did get covid (so get those shots!) Even if you are "just experiencing flu like symptoms for a few days". There's no reason NOT to take the vaccin even if you might think you don't need it. Also, been painting much? :-)
My heart rate is 15 BPM higer than normal and my docotor said to me that is crazy! If you had zero side affects thats OK and i wish you the best but dont say that its no ANY ANY reason to not take it because just look up comments.
It's very dangerous indeed, I almost had a heart attack on the 3rd day of my 1st jab, went 70km cycling. From that until now, I felt like I was weaker than before. 😩
Not a good idea to train the heart when it is suffering with inflammation. If you are going to pin something at least use something that is proven safe from decades of usage and only if it will boost your hemoglobin vs give you heart inflammation.

Been applying your training techniques for the last 3 weeks. Making gains and feeling good! Big ups to Neil! Keep it up!
Great to hear, thanks for sharing on the thread
Great to see some real world challenges and results, can really relate to this, also can confirm I had similar heart rate impact from the Covid vaccine!! Thanks Cam and Neil
Training around work and 'a normal life' can be hard at times but it's pretty awesome to see people who achieve this and we can definitely take motivation from it!

Had the jab, same hr side effects, back to normal after a few weeks. Happy that I have some level of protection.. hope you are well
you had no level of protection before?
Thanks for sharing Bert, and glad to hear you’re on the mend too. Cam
Don’t get the 3rd one
same here
Unless you are in a high risk category, the real long term risk of another jab may outweigh the “benefit” you get…especially as we transition to endemic.
Hey Edge!
It's great to hear that you are back to fitting fit! Keep up the great work!

I track my HR very closely as I have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Apart from a period of tachycardia for several hours after the 2nd jab (140ish) slow walking for example I didn't notice any sustained impacts to my RHR of any of the two jabs nor the booster
Hey Lisa! It's great to hear that you are doing well after the covid vaccines. We wish you well on your future cycling goals!

Great series!
Gives me some hope.
Lots of reports of the same stuff by the sounds of it Stephen, thanks for sharing - Neill
I had the exact same experience and felt fatigued even 2 months after the second vaccine. Heart rate was elevated doing just simple zone 2 training. Resting heart rate was also up 5-10 beats. Now, four months after I am back to my ftp level pre-vaccine.
We're glad you made a full recovery!

Hi. Great video series. I can confirm that my heart rate has been slightly elevated since having covid in early December 2021. Still have slightly higher RHR and higher by about 10% when cycling.
Thanks for the comment Philip.
We hope you make a full recovery from this virus.

Cheers, Cam
Same for me
The worst part is, the Pfizer Jan doesn’t even work. At all! The ceo just admitted it.
We hope you recover well and continue this great sport!

We hope you make a full recovery and are able to achieve all of your cycling performances that you want to!
-RCA Team
2 Pfizer shots plus Moderna booster here. With every single shot I asked the doctors what to do with training and physical activity in general and each they suggested some "take it easy" if not rest days. After the booster however I got some symptoms (fever, tiredness, etc.), but it lasted a couple of days. No strange fluctuations in HR, and I have a Garmin watch always on my wrist
We hope you recover well and can continue training at your highest level!

Things to be aware of;
1) the risk of this type of thing is likely compounding with each shot
2) the side effect profile exists on a sliding scale - so you might have 5% of your heart tissue damaged by the spike protein hit, and maybe next time it will be 20%, or none, or anywhere in between?
3) Omicron isn't that nasty for most healthy young people
4) The protection from severe disease that the shots give falls to nearly zero after 4-5 months.
Good luck and be well.
don''t get any more of this shit man
Great video again guy love your work. For Neil I have a whole year of data with my HRV nearly doubling after I had the vaxes. My Dr. could not explain it to me when I went to have my bloods done again even when I show the data. Heartrate has increased by 6-10 beats as I do this every morning. Would be interested to see how you go. Cheers
We hope you make a full recovery and can continue to train at a high level!
-RCA Team
Isn't high HRV (variability) generally a good thing for athletes, since it's a sign your heart rate can adjust to and recover from stress?
just out of curiosity, Can we get an update on this?
Hey David,
we are sorry to hear that you have contracted the virus. The whole RCA team wish you the best recovery and hope to see you hitting your goals soon!
Hope you're feeling better! Sometimes we have to readjust our goals, and it is disappointing, but the important thing is to take care of your long term health. Good luck!
I had some serious heartrats issues after being infected with COVID-19. I am happy to say all is well now
It's great to see you made a full recovery!

I noticed after each of the 2 AZ vaccine doses that my heart rate elevated by around 10bpm. It took me close to 3 months after the second vax for my heart rate to come back down to normal. I am yet have a booster and am a little trepidacious about how long the effect may last this time.
Interesting to hear Karl, thanks for sharing on the thread. And understandable! Cam
All the best Neil, hopefully not long term effects for you.
Noticed the exact same thing. I have had the AstraZeneca jab and my Whoop consistently reports elevated heartrate for a prolonged period after each jab.
We hope you make a full recovery and can keep cycling at a high level!
-RCA Team
I’ve had 3 Moderna doses. Monitoring my activities before and after. No effect on resting hr nor noticeable or activity performance
Hey Bob!
It's great to see you are thriving! Ride on!

Hi there, noticed the same in my hr. 5-10 bpm higher on zone 2 endurance rides and my max hr jumped about 10 bpm.
Going to see a doctor for yearly checkup soon and will get bloodwork and look into it as well.
Might be an idea to talk to them about an ECG to check for mitral valve leakage and partial cardiac tissue death. - Neill
We're glad you made a full recovery and can return to cycling at your best level!
-RCA Team
Best of luck Neill, hope you get back to normal.
Thanks Monty! - Neill
Thanks for the comment John!
We always like to show testament with our work! Ride on mate!

I must be an outlier, two days after both pfizer jabs I had excellent rides on the bike, one being 214kms and the other 254kms and felt fantastic.
The vast majority of people are probably the same Greg - good to hear! - Neill
Thanks for sharing Cam - lots of similar stories by the sounds of things
Hey Lars,
According to Whoop data being collected this can be a semi common occurring usually resolving over a few weeks to months.
Make sure to tell your cardiologist the issue occurred or seems to have occurred after your Covid shot..(or as you guys say "jab")
My guess is they will recommend some labs and an echocardiogram to take a look to see whats happening.

3,75 w/kg FTP and 5w/kg for an 5 minute test - isnt there too much difference between treshold power and max anaerobic capacity?
Agreed, I've always been this way. I can produce 10-15% more on the road, particularly up a climb, that I ever can on a trainer - so the values get skewed a bit for trainer tests. I don't think I can shed core body heat quickly enough on a trainer, even with lots of fans! - Neill

@@roadcyclingacademy OMG - This censorship of reasonable informed debate is frightening. When discussing this vacc, people then need to understand that information is being presented in a very controlled and questionable manner such that people are not being correctly informed
I say Neill, you say Stanbury.
Neill!
STANBURY!
I had the exact same experience and side effects as Neil after getting the second Pfizer shot in September. My resting heartrate is still ~10bpm higher than previous. My FTP initially fell ~30watts but is slowly recovering. I still have higher heartrates at sub-threshold exertion.
Hey Jeff,
We hope you make a full recovery and continue to reach your best potential!

Neill should have a look at this video and see if any of his symptoms match. ruclips.net/video/H7inaTiDKaU/видео.html I hope that he recovers soon!
I had sinovac shot last year and my resting HR went down, it even lower with 2nd shot.. i notice it because i monitor my resting hr & hrv using both hrv4training program & smart watch..
Thanks for the comment!
It's great to see you are using all this technology t o further understand your body. We hope all goes well for you!

HR got a bit higher after booster but back to normal after a few weeks. Would rather have a temporary side effect than life changing potentially permanent effects or dying.
Thanks for sharing on the thread
I had the same symptoms but I don't think its vaccine related - I've only had the first jab here in the UK, not the second and not the booster either. I experienced really nasty fatigue that kept me away from training for 3 months and even off work for a week. Resting HR was also 10 bpm higher than normal.
Hey Matt,
We hope you recover well and can continue to cycle at your highest level.

We're glad to see you made a full recovery from the vaccines and can continue living life to the fullest!

#durianrider HR affected by co v i d jab
he didnt take this shi**
It's very dangerous indeed, I almost had a heart attack on the 3rd day of my 1st jab, went 70km cycling. From that until now, I felt like I was weaker than before. 😩
We hope you recover well!

Look into the world champion for holding his breath. He can't do it anymore because of his jabs.
Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

Not a good idea to train the heart when it is suffering with inflammation.
If you are going to pin something at least use something that is proven safe from decades of usage and only if it will boost your hemoglobin vs give you heart inflammation.
You can get VERY fit in 20 weeks but you'll also be VERY fatigued!
Hey Richard!
Your statement can be very true if your training program is not suited to each riders ability and background! In all of our programs we outline the 'easier' days as some of the most important as the recovery period is where your body adapts!

Lie, he's no zero.
Vaccine injured. Poor bloke. Hope he’s ok.
He’s good.
