    Hi Nivla, thank you for your video 😁 Today we bought first our whiskey as Talisker storm. We are trying to catch the notes and tasting. It is hard hahaha 🤣 but it is very interesting world of Wiskey! I am happy to discover ❤️

      Anytime one has serious study it is hard, but also a great deal of fun. The world of whisky is huge, from the cheap stuff to bottles you need to mortgage your house to purchase. (I haven't tried any of those!)

    Talisker is actually one of the most versatile whiskies with food. So love that your brought-up the oysters.

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад +3

      Take your oyster that has been shucked, but is still in the shell, dribble a little Talisker 10 (or Laphroaig, or any peated whisky) and tip it back, oyster and whisky combined. Then agree with me that it is a damn fine way to consume oysters!

  • @eyemallears2647

    Straight to the point. Awesome. My palate is VERY uneducated but my first sip of Talisker 10 and I was blown away. The fresh sea added a 3D flavour to my recently discovered love for peat. Damn I can’t wait to try ALM the other islays

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  Год назад

      I love the fact that you have discovered peat. Islay is perfect for researching peated whiskies. Bowmore I recommend as a starting point as their whiskies are very in balance; peat but lots of other stuff. From there the sky is the limit!

    If you can get it try the Talisker Distillers edition. It's ca 10 year old but with more Sherry cask influence than the standard 10.It's a wonderful dram.

  • @Gath8mm

    Dude, you are spot on with Oysters!! I had an Islay McClelland with Oysters recently and the brine cancelled each other out, and a sweet came to my pallet that wasn't there before. Brilliant. Laphroiag, any Laphroiag is my top.

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes

      I too am a fan of Laphroaig and rate it second in my collection. If you haven't tried the Lagavulin 16 you are missing a great whisky. A bit more expensive but worth every cent!

    The problem with Talisker 10 is, the bottle gets empty to fast..🤫

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes

    Was curious about the storm. Had a bottle of Talisker 10. I couldn’t decide if I liked it or not, the peat and smoke was so strong. Then my buddy and his wife tried it and said it reminded them of the smell of a doctors office, and now that’s all I can associate it with, 😂

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад +1

      It is a shame that it brings memories of doctors. As you can see from this review I really like the Talisker 10, but the Storm lacks something. The Talisker Port Rouige is pretty handy as well. happy tasting!

  • @EuropaWill
    @EuropaWill 3 года назад +1

    100% agree. The 10 is world's better than Storm. Talisker 10 is actually at the top of my list. Lagavulin 8 is probably in my top 10. Lagavulin 8 is much better than Ardbeg 10 IMO. Better poise and balance.

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад +1

      Certainly agree with your comments about Talisker 10. My one taste of Lagavulin 8 cemented for me the absolute beauty of the Lagavulin 16. I did not and probably will not buy the 8 year old. If you have seen some of my reviews, I rate the Lagavulin 16 the best whisky in my collection.

    • @EuropaWill
      @EuropaWill 3 года назад +1

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes

    • @EuropaWill
      @EuropaWill 3 года назад +1

      @@NivlasNightcapNotes in my locale Laga 8 is $57 USD and Laga 16 is $102. Single malts in NY have really been pricing themselves into the stratosphere over the past few years. Finding Talisker 10 under $65 is a challenge also as it's price has also spiked.

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад

      I assume NY stands for New York. Here in Australia (remembering our dollar is about 75c US) Laga 16 costs $130 and Laga 8 costs $105. So for an extra $25 you get another 8 years in barrel. Can't understand the thinking behind that pricing! If New York is your home, are you a Yankees fan or a Mets fan?

  • @PlagueKing_LordFalix

    Great review. Our thoughts are mirrored on this. The Storms not a bad whiskey, but it doesn't compare to the ten. Personally, I'm am Ardbeg guy myself anyways so I tend to go for the green bottle but I always have a bottle of Talisker on the shelf. Have you tried the Wee Beastie from Ardbeg yet. Damn fine dram for a 5 year old.

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад

      I certainly have tried the Wee Beastie! Check out my last review. I like the fact that they have been upfront with the age, not put out a No Age Statement whisky. It is good for its age, but I do prefer the refinement of the 10yo. Thanks for your comments.

  • @tgeorges
    @tgeorges 2 года назад +1

    Good comparison! Here in the Atlanta area, the Talisker 10 runs at least $20-$30 MORE than the Talisker Storm. Heck I used to be able to get it for less than $30. Now it's anywhere between $43 and $50. The 10 year is usually closer to $70. I love the Storm, but whenever I can get a bottle of the 10 under $60 I do so. MUCH smoother, but I love the "bite" of the Storm, and that almost peppery finish, especially if I let it linger on the palatte.

    Dear Mr. Nivla, wich are the best blended whiskeys that you would recommend?

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад +3

      I consider the best value for money blended whisky is the Johnny Walker Black label, but be sure it is the Black Label, not the sherry cask one or the Double Black. I also like Dimple. At the lower end of the price range is J&B Rare Scotch. Happy tastings!

Great flavor, great value, and maybe the current 10, which has a newer label than what is in this video, is not what it used to be. Good stuff!

    Totally agree, the T10 is and has been for years - batch variations aside - a real bang for the buck and imho renders the Storm/Dark Storm and Skye at the same/higher price obsolete if you are out for the best quality. One reason these bottles were introduced into the market was to counter shortage of the 10 yo at the time and to diversify their brand and be able to offer their whisky in bulk to supermaret chains + any interested retailer for that matter. Mind you that they use E150a especially in the Dark Storm to make it look more attractive. The Ruighe and Distillers Edition are better and more attractive b/c of the additional wood finish, the DE being more smooth and complex than the 10 adding some nice sherry notes. Talisker surely works just as well in different barrels, same as e.g. Caol Ila and Lagavulin.

    • @NivlasNightcapNotes
      @NivlasNightcapNotes  3 года назад

      I agree with everything you say. The Port Ruighe and the Distillers Edition are OK but the 10yo out of these is by far the best!
