Dbx 163x is a great and cheap compressor. I have two and use them mainly to track isolated drums (kick usually), bass and unruly analog synths. Also good as side compressor for old school analog mixes. Not sure is the best solution for the Akay sampler input. RNC is definitely higher quality but a bit overkill for the purpose. I'd suggest to try a used preamp-comp combo cheap unit like Art Tube MP, Presonous, or even Beheringer. I understand you only need mono leveling with a bit of character, that might work, or not! Cheers.
Isn't ignorance bliss? If you hadn't have read that comment and felt compelled to test it's worth, you would never have known and probably enjoyed the compressor more.
My exact thoughts... use it anywhere you like but use your ears rather then some idea what it's doing... dial it in... tweak it. When you like what you hear roll with it and give it no more thought than it deserves. You're making music not splitting the atom.
Interesting demonstration and experienced view.
I still haven’t come to a final conclusion :) thanks for watching!
extremely helpful and informative! thanks so much
thanks a lot for the nice comment :)
@@gwEmbassy i had actually been wondering why the sounds i was getting out of my 163x's seemed inconsistent-now i know!

Thanks for the thoughts on the dbx163X! :)
Technicalities aside, the Funky Drummer is the best bb to use because the Funky Drummer is the best break eveeeeeer.
Ain’t it funky? ;)
Interesting, with mine I can literally get it to brickwall limit with extreme compression
It’s an interesting compressor. I like the unit, but it needs some second guessing sometimes (apparently!)
WHAT IS BEST LEVEL FOR A FLAT OUTPUT? NO ENHANCEMENT IS NEEDED JUST A TIGHT SOLID SOUND. Late Night Chicago Radio
You’d need to experiment. But I would just drive it so the LEDs start to flicker a little

Maybe you are right! The ear is what counts after all :)
