Thanks for a great video! I have one of these, but wondering if I have the correct signal chain. Bass > 163x > UA Solo 610 > interface. I've had good results with just a touch (-4db) of compression, but it would be better to put the 163x AFTER the Solo 610.
You could put it before or after. For me, I'd think that putting it on the front end and then using the 610 for the additional color and gain will be more predictable and get you more overall control.
@@ToddUrban I've been using it before the 610 and really like the sound I get. My clients seem to like it, as well. No complaints. Just that it came up in conversation with a friend that gave me cause to question my signal chain. Thanks for your feedback!
Absolutely. If you watch my EBS video, it is a total different monster and way more versatile. But there is a cool vintage vibe to the dbx and the one thing it does, it does better than most pedals.
Sorry for all of the questions... But, I TRULY appreciate your time. Question: Can this act as a replacement for a Direct Injection Box? If so, would you expect the signal to be as clean?
Man... Your response-time is EPIC,@@ToddUrban!!!! Perhaps you should build a team to answer questions, thus deprecating the current crown of Google & RUclips. 😀 #FN_Heroic_Answers
I am using very hot outputs on my instruments. The stingray bass is active too. Therefore, I found the level setting to be the best to avoid distortion and also allow for the slider to be more of a fine tune adjustment, rather than major jumps in compression threshold level.
Absolutely. Typically I prefer to capture even playing at the source. And when I cannot, I will use clip gain to individually balance single notes. But the clean sound of the 163 can help level a track in moderation without audible compression artifacts.

Thank you! I appreciate you continuing to watch the content and for the kind words!! 😃
Just might have to find one of these and add it to my tool box.
They are a one trick pony, but they do that trick perfectly! 🐴
Enlightening. Thank you.

Sounds good, but i wonder if a new pedal for similar money will not offer even better sound and more versatility.

I can't use direct box active
Conect dbx 163x

Yes, it could act as a DI, but it definitely wouldn’t be as clean, both because of the circuitry, but also since it is an older unit.

I notice you had your level set at -30. Was there a reason for that? Did it reduce noise?

BTW what type of compressor is it?
It’s a VCA with that signature sound. (Especially if you try it on a snare!)
Thank you SO much,@@ToddUrban
@@sekritskworl-sekrit_studios of course! I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel! More to come soon!
@@ToddUrban I'd LOVE to see guidance on connecting guitars to interfaces and whether or not to use Direct Injection.
@@sekritskworl-sekrit_studios I do have a video on direct boxes you might like. 😉
Really tightens up the sloppy playing !!!! No plug in will give you this sound and vibe
