    Incredible. My boat, A Belize 43, rode it out at Hog Island. Zero damage. I was off the boat. My deepest thanks for your video. If this doesn’t convince people to go ashore, nothing will.

    I've lived through several hurricanes here in Antigua and am always amazed that anyone would stay onboard for one. I would rather go beg for shelter in the village than stay on a boat no matter where it sits. I bet this will be your last hurricane on one and hopefully this is shared on all cruiser's Facebook groups too. Thanx so much for your honesty and this great account.

    I've been through a cat 4 in a house and can't imagine doing it on a boat. So glad you made it through. BTW, I became friends with Susie, James and the fur babies in Panama and was so worried about them as well. My heart is with all of the cruising community and the wonderful people of Carriacou. Thank you for making this raw video.

    😢😢 Hi Jason. Just found this and we are so glad you are safe. What a terrifying experience and so sad our beautiful Carriacou is so damaged. We are back home now, Indian Summer is sold but Ian misses her dreadfully. Please stay in touch and we are thrilled to have found you again! Inatosha have proved herself to be a really amazing boat - all down to the builder! Hugs xx

    Well done for toughing it out. Can’t have been an easy decision to stay onboard. Looks horrible. We have experienced a 120kmh blow in Mallorca and that was bad enough. Hope you get the boat sorted soon.

    Man all i can say is hats off to you! So many ppl who call one down for taking care of his shit but thats how its done. The spot may not have been the best as i would have tried to be someplace with less boats around but i dont know your situation so im sure you were in the best place for you. I rode out hurricane Dorian when it hit nova scotia and it was something to see even at a high cat 2. Hope you get back together soon. Take care

    I'm glad I went ashore in St Martin for Irma in 2017. The forecast for 90mph winds turned out 185mph in the end. My boat, Glee, was lost for 4 months in Simpson Bay lagoon. Lost everything that I didn't stuff in a backpack. Even on land it's scary, staying aboard is a roll of the dice. Then afterwards... the looters...

    So many people do not believe the strength of a hurricane until they are in one. The number of people who die staying to trying protect their boat or house is sad.

    What amazes me is how many yachts chose to lash their mainsails rather than remove them completely for bare sticks. May not have made much difference in actuality for Beryl, but was always taught for Cat1 or above bare poles and minimal windage is essential. Devastating to see so much destruction. And what will happen to all the debris? How will it be disposed of? Surely Carriacou can't process it all and it will need to be taken by barge or whatever to a larger country for disposal.

He works in the boat building, repairs and maintenance field. You can view his GoFundMe page at www.gofundme.com/f/save-inatosha-help-jason-restore-his-home. I didn't even think of adding the link here as it was just a link to the video. If you would like me to put you in touch with Jason let me know. Perhaps you are able to help each other.

    • @MrMarkandMsCindy
      @MrMarkandMsCindy 6 месяцев назад +4

      I agree. Hundreds of boats went south to Trinidad to escape the wrath of the storm. They were all ok. It is barely an overnight sail to get there. This was also our plan when we summered in Grenada on our vessel. Thankfully we didn't need to execute the plan.

    • @waynebanks6597
      @waynebanks6597  6 месяцев назад +4

      Hi Louis, you're completely right, and that is exactly what Jason was trying to do, head south to avoid them. This is the first time in almost forever that a Hurricane of this size has hit so far south and so early. The island was not even prepared, even the houses built there are not equipped for such storms. Just very bad luck.

      Nonsense @@waynebanks6597plenty of people had time to leave. Unless his boat was inoperable for some reason not clear in this video but anyone who stayed is practically insurance fraud for not relocating their boat as they had plenty of time.

    I've been trying to decide if getting an aluminum hull boat or even a steel hull boat that I prefer aluminum was worth the extra cost over a fiberglass boat after seeing this I really want aluminum with steel is my second choice and fiberglass my last choice The reason I say that is repairs will be so much easier and punctures will not be so easy I'm not saying fiberglass isn't easy to repair you can just do it with stuff you have on board but with aluminum and steel once you get it hauled out and get their proper materials it can be just as quick if not quicker than fiberglass anyway I think they're more durable but I don't know how much more durable I do know the puncture resistance of aluminum is exponentially stronger than fiberglass and steel even more so than aluminum I'm not saying they wouldn't sink in a situation like this hurricane's throw boats around like toys God bless this man for staying in the boat when this happened

    • @ThaiLifeAmerican

      As bad as that wind speed is and it's horrible and I would be scared to poopless imagine adding another hundred miles an hour to that wind speed and some hurricanes people have been in that's what it's like

    • @evinwhiteson4902
      @evinwhiteson4902 6 месяцев назад

      Yep. Garcia,allure,barole,Orion,ovni just to name a few. I agree. Aluminum . It's the only material other than fiberglass I would have. And in a hurricane you can get up into a mangrove off shoot.

    My cousin has a Garcia yacht and he went through a hurricane and saw wind speeds over a hundred miles an hour but because it's a centerboard yacht and it has a draft of about 3 and 1/2 ft with the board up he was able to go up into a waterway more than a mile and he lashed his boat to mangroves with dozens of ropes and the next day he motored out and saw what this guy's in the middle of but this was several years ago I forgot the name of the storm but it was in the general same area

    Why did you stay in a hurricane prone area in hurricane season? Do you now agree that was dumb? Somehow after 206,000 miles and 40 years of cruising I have yet to stay in a hurricane/cyclone/typhoon area in the storm season. Because its a stupid thing to do. Its just a few days sail to a safe area for the season. Dumb.
