  • After taking a tour of Amtrak's Wilmington Maintenance Facility ( • Tour of Amtrak's Wilmi... ) I decided to do some railfanning at Wilmington, Delaware's beautiful train station. Every train in this video stops at the station, including Acela trains, Northeast Regionals, Long-Distance trains, and SEPTA trains. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy!

Wilmington is my point of entry to Amtrak. Left for Sacramento from there and arrived back. Will be there in 3/14 for to and from Atlanta. And have picked up and dropped off friends there. Love the place!

Yes, I do realize that the station is now officially called Joseph R. Biden Jr. Wilmington Rail Station. However, most people still refer to it by "Wilmington Station". Even go to Wikipedia and it says that it is more commonly referred to as "Wilmington Station". I felt that when choosing a title for my video, using Wilmington Station would help more people to recognize and find my video. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I always wonder why Amtrak considers its platforms restricted areas, and not public areas at stations? Are you afraid if a conductor saw you filming on the platform, that they are going to ask to see your ticket?

I'm not afraid of Amtrak personnel, instead I respect the company.Although I do not necessarily think that it would be a problem to film from the center platform, there was a sign and it may interfere with paying customers. It is the railfans that trespass or disregard Amtrak policies that ruin the hobby for the rest of us. When people are irresponsible, it causes the RR police departments and management to crack down on railfans. As long as we are following the rules, there should be no issues. Do you get where I'm coming from?

acelaphillies I sort of get it, but I don't see why Amtrak has to consider the station platforms to be Restricted areas?

Yeah, I get where you are coming from. But I don't make the rules, just follow them. Also, although they are all Amtrak platforms, it is a much different situation in NY Penn Station, Wilmington, DE, & Minot, North Dakota. I would say, while railfanning just always use your best judgement, don't trespass on tracks or facilities, and cooperate with RR employees. That way you should not run into problems. Thanks for watching, by the way!

How come you couldn't film from the center high level platform? Is there a gate agent that checks for tickets to access the platform? Do septa and Amtrak use different platforms?

The middle platform is for Amtrak. Although there is no person checking for tickets, there was a sign that said "ticketed passengers only". The SEPTA platforms, however, did not say this. The SEPTA photo policy also does not require a ticket to be on the platform, as long as you are not interfering with passengers or crew and are not trespassing.
