  • This Full Circle video explains an SMRT (Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique) protocol to help restore bladder function after surgery. We have seen success with this procedure when done repeatedly throughout a day to three days. Anyone can do this SMRT protocol. If you find that you would like a practitioner, please see Full Circle's find a therapist list for an SMRT practitioner in your area, efullcircle.com...

    Thank you so much! this really worked for me. I had my daughter do this the day before and the day of my trial of void. It was my third trial of void after surgery it was successful. I should note I didn't let them fill my bladder I asked to come back later in the day. After removing the catheter in office i went about my day and went home & was able to void, then returned and was able to void in office.

    I did this to my mom yesterday before catheter removal. She has had the catheter for a month! She was able to pee straight away! I don't know for sure if this is what made the difference, but I could feel an obvious change in the way her belly felt after doing it, and everything worked! So, thank you so much for sharing this!

    This worked perfectly. Thank U. My friend was struggling to pass urine few hours after a surgery. After trying this once, right after she was able to urinate normally 👍

    Thank you Dawn !!!
    I've had bladder cancer chemotherapy with a catheter 1x week for 8 weeks. The last two weeks of treatment was that uretha pain and now to my right hip flexor. Dr put me on antibiotics. Not much improvement.
    Showed this video to my massage therapist and had huge success after first treatment.
    Why does the placement of a catheter disturb the muscles so much?

    A dear friend just had spinal surgery and his ability to understand & relate to this period of failure of function right now is causing some serious frustration.
    He had a catheter for 2 weeks!!!!
    It's like his body needs to be reminded how to eliminate.

      Hi how is your friend doing now? My dad had prostate surgery and now it has been 42 days and still can’t seem to get off the catheter. They tried to take out the catheter 4 times but every time he was only able to void very little until it closes up. We had to take him to ER every time because of excruciating pain. Now he has bladder infection. He is still on the catheter. They thought maybe cathing will help but he had to self cath 9 times the spasm was very painful.

    I had.two inguinal.hernia surgeries in my right groin. Both times I couldn't urinate. The first time they waited several hours than catherized me. It was horrible. The second time they.kept me several hours than told me to go home and of I couldn't urinate by midnight to go to emergency. It was so painful.but I finally managed to dribble about 10 hours after the surgery. No fun.

    Can this be done while a catheter is in (for a male)? He will have this catheter in for 3 weeks. Can we start doing it 2 weeks prior to removal?

    I asked the surgeon if I could have a local anaesthetic for a keyhole surgery for my hernia operation but he said no. Post op yesterday I didn't realise that the flow of urine was minimal. I peed a couple of hours after surgery but it was slow flowing. 2nd day today and I'm not drinking massive amounts but I'm going for a trickle every couple of hours. Today is Thursday 5th January 2023. I hope I'm back to normal in the next couple of days.

    Hi Dawn; how many times we should do that process in 24 hrs. I had General Anesthesia. I urinate little by little only. Is every other hour ok?

    My father had bladder infection and a urethral blockage, which has been cleared up, so they say. They took the catheter out for about 12 hours and he could not urinate. It had been in for 24 days. He has had a couple of strokes about 2 years ago which has reduced his cognitive ability. Should I do this every 30 min after the catheter is removed? They told him to drink lots of fluids, when it was removed, but I think that that was a mistake. They said that they could try again in a week, but that is too long I think. Thoughts? I do not want the catheter to be permanent. Help would be much appreciated. I know that this is not a guarantee, but the doctors have no sane solution.

    • @fullcircleschool4964
      @fullcircleschool4964  6 лет назад +1

      Commentator Jones - I am sorry your father is having this issue. Yes, my advice would be to do the work multiple times a day (does not have to be every 30 minutes, but minimum of 6 times a day), particularly when the catheter is out. True that there are no guarantees, but if it has the possibility of helping, I believe it is worth trying. I truly hope it helps. Dawn

      Thanks for the reply. So I should do the massage at least once before the catheter is removed right? The nurse said that the bladder is probably stretched and its probably finished. He was in the hospital for over 14 days before they realized it was full. The catheter is going to be removed on Monday in the early morning.

    • @fullcircleschool4964
      @fullcircleschool4964  6 лет назад

      Commentator Jones - hopefully the catheter was in for at least part of that 14 days. You can start whenever you like. A few times before the catheter is removed would be fine (even the day before), then more work when the catheter is removed.
