Instant like for filming on the actual lens, unlike others who hold the thing in their hand through the entire video while filming with a €5k setup lol
I find this lens is great for video, especially in controlled sessions. But for some reason for me in high contrast scenes, for stills, things can get muddy. In overcast days itnoerforms well, but in the sun where some areas are overexposed and others underexposed, i prefer the primes.
Hi Omar, I always love what you do. I'm letting you know that a photographer was badly beaten up at gunpoint by two thugs in San Francisco. This was covered on the news and two RUclipsrs have started a challenge to bring awareness to this issue regarding safety, and I think that you would be perfect to do something like this on your channel. The two RUclipsrs are Amar from 247 Media and Vahagraphy. This is as you know extremely important and threatens all of us
I'm really sorry about this or any violence. I've lived in the SF area for over 40 years and have visited SF countless times. I worked in SF in the late 70s and early 80s in downtown. There is no doubt that SF has gone downhill with open drug dealing and homeless camps. If I listed the issues about SF today I wouldn't include anything particular to a single photographer getting beaten up. Are you suggesting that Omar bring attention to the risks to photographers in SF?
@@emmgeevideo Well I wanted to bring attention to not just SF, but the dangers as a whole and ways to combat them because a lot of individuals take this for granted, especially people living in suburban areas.
@@emmgeevideo No disrespect taken, but this is exactly what I'm talking about, it's way more than one mugging and it's happening everywhere, and people are acting like it isn't happening at all, but I would advise you to start checking for yourself. We have a crime problem with stolen cars, and a lot of other crimes that is being talked about. These thefts and beatings on photographers are on people whose job is to be outside to actually do their jobs. Take this away, take their art and voice away and what do they have. My point is don't wait for it to happen to someone you know or even you to bring awareness to it. Once you have given the education it is up to the individuals to prepare themselves. Your example of one mugging, and no disrespect to you, shows that there is no awareness of this issue as if it doesn't exist. The numbers are on the rise, but if a photographer takes action and turns the table on the robber then there will be awareness and that photographer will have to go through hell to prove their innocents.
Hi Omar I am going to purchase the Fuji X-T5 and keep going back and forth between the Fuji 18-55 and the Sigma 18-50. If you were buying a X-T5 and did not have either lens what would you get?
I'm unexpectedly torn. I've been thinking about this lens for a year. Before Sigma came to Fuji, I kept thinking "this is the only f/2.8 zoom to tempt me, because it's so small." Then Sigma brought over the primes, and I knew--I'm getting the 18-50 as soon as it's out. Now it's available for preorder, and I'm having a moment of indecision. I think a lot of it is that I switched cameras. Upgraded from exclusively manual lenses on my X-E2 to an X-Pro3 with the 35/2 WR. Maybe I don't need this, and might be better served by just getting the Sigma 56/1.4 or a used Fuji 56/1.2. Sigmas are on sale right now (although they're often on sale), and used 56s are affordable now that the WR version is out. Maybe I'd pick up a wide AF lens down the road (14/2.6, 16/2.8, and 18/2 are all tempting), but I already have 12mm and 17mm manual lenses. More to think about.
You remind me of myself, there are so many options, and so hard to choose. I have bought, sold, traded lenses and cameras so many times in the short time I’ve been in the hobby, but I’ve been learning to embrace “good enough”. No lens will be perfect for every situation. I have always enjoyed primes because they make such a beautiful image, but then I end up always feeling like I want to try other focal lengths. When I’m on the street taking photos, sometimes there are detail shots high up, or a scene happening across the street I can’t get to fast enough, and that’s where the zooms become worth their weight in gold. The fact that this sigma gives you that flexibility, 2.8 aperture and a sub 300g weight is amazing. Probably. Going to be the lens welded to my camera for travel in cities with the 10-24 as a backup in case I want some REALLY wide shots. For hikes, it’ll be the 10-24 and a XC50-230 in case I want some landscape details. That works for me, but if you do mostly studio work for example, portraits, lots is specifically low light work, then primes are usually the way to go with APSC IMO.
@@Kevodabomb_Media what I went with in the end was the Tamron 18-300. A lot more trade-offs, heavy for one lens (comparable to two), but decent IQ, reasonable weather resistance, and an utterly amazing zoom range for APS-C. Mostly I go walking with a prime, but whenever I want that 300mm reach, I don't have to swap lenses if I want to shoot something wider. Seems like the right zoom lens for me. I still think the Sigma has a lot of merit, the only standard zoom I'd consider, but I guess I'm just a prime kind of guy for anything under 100mm.
@@thebitterfig9903 nice! I’ve considered that tamron as well as the 18-135, and 18-120PZ for travel. Sure they are heavier but you basically never have to switch lenses unless you’re in very low light. I’m still trying to figure this out myself 😂 I ended up canceling my Sigma order, I remember not being super excited about my 18-55 zoom, figured I should try something else.
Omar, it would be great to make a video with those "clinically sharp lenses" vs those with character for Fuji X mount. That would be a great video because you can share your thoughts and compare photos, colors, and other details. Great video about the Sigma 18-50 lens too. It's very good for street photography!
How is the lens for distortion and vignetting? A lot of Fuji folks take jpegs which means we either need in camera corrections to work (not typically the case for 3rd party lenses) or for the lens to already be well corrected.
is this lens good for fujifilm xe-3 (without IBIS) if i'm only planning to take pictures? will the photos be blurry during lowlight condition? I'm currently using kit lens 15-45mm
if I where to switch to fujifilm for street and urban photography, would I be able to obtain larger prints A2 or even A1 with enough quality for a gallery type showing of my work
I'm tempted. I love my 35mm F2, 50mm F2 and 27mm 2.8, but having a convenient zoom for travel and street that's small and 2.8... seems hard to resist at that price.
Hi Omar I noticed you came to PR? The house’ balcony, flowers and the b&w shot of old SJ just gave it away. I’m from the west side and currently live here. Great video, I was actually of thinking of letting go my Fuji 18-55mm and getting one of these which most likely will. Thank you for the vid and review on the lens. Keep up the good work👍🏻
I have the 16mm f/2.8, which I love on my X-T5 and was considering the 35mm f/2 to make a decent, lightweight travel combo. Seeing this lens however makes me wonder whether the pairing of the 16mm and 18-50mm would be even better. This would mainly be for landscapes, cityscapes and the occasional portrait. Did you find the Sigma at 35mm to be as good as the 35mm Fuji prime?
hi, I'm about to buy a fuji XS-10 and I'm in doubt whether to buy the fujifilm kit lens (18-55 f2.8-f4 or 16-80 f4) or this Sigma f2.8. My use will be both for photography and videos in particular landscapes, architecture, streephotos even nocturnes so the idea was to have a versatile lens eventually combined with a prime. I'm not a professional, but I'd like to get the best result and quality. What would you suggest me to purchase? Sigma? the 2 above-mentioned fuji lens? I'd be pleased to have your advice. Thanks and congrats for your videos.
@@ogonzilla indeed ! I bought a fanny pack after i watched ur video. and I take so much picture now cause i always carry my camera the best photography advice that i get
I was looking at the first comparison pics of spidey and I was like hmmm the Fuji has better contrast then I realized you have the labels switched 😅 on the screen.
I have the Sigma 56mm f/1,4 and use it with my XT-4 and it's amazing!! Sigma lenses are impressive I have to say, I didn't expect it to be that good but after watching one of your reviews on the lens you did a while ago I decided to go for it - good thing I did because I haven't stopped using it since then :))
Would this lens be good for eventphotography? I am looking for a lens that is overal good and doesn't quite break the bank as I am just starting out with shooting some events. At the moment I'm quite limited with my 35mm prime.
Can't speak for Omar, but I think it ultimately comes down to size & reach vs OIS (Tamron calls it VC). I've got the Tamron and have absolutely no complaints about image quality and performance. However it's much bigger and weighs almost twice as much as the Sigma 18-50. For me, if you're an event photographer, the Tamron is hard to beat with the reach and IS (useful for video as well). For street, I'd take the Sigma 18-50.
I currently have a Fuji XT200 with the 15-45 f3.5-5.6 kit lens. Is it worth upgrading to the Sigma 18-50 even if the focal lengths are pretty close? Been using it for 4 years now for mostly travel and street photography. I want to try a lens that’s not variable aperture.
I have this lens for Fuji and Sony, and one thing that's irritating me is that the Fuji version loses focus whenever I zoom. I thought it was something wrong with my copy but in this video I can see that yours also lose focus when you zoom. It's even effects stills because the camera has to find focus again every time I zoom. Wasn't that something you reacted to? It's surely drives me crazy.
I have an XE4 and really like the Sigma but im not sure if it's the best option without the IS. Maybe the Fuji Kit lens is better in this case? What do you think ? I only do photography and not really Video... Thanks!
Hey Omar, another great review 🔥 your opinion, what to choose: $270 fujinon 18-55 (yes, so cheap, new in the white box) $620 sigma 18-50 in pair with my x-t5 (most of my photos are made at 35f2, I’m looking for a more versatile lens to use with ibis. In my location, 18-55 is twice cheaper)
Just when I thought I got through it all ya post this. Do you think the 16-80 is too big for the t-30 if I got a grip or the xs10 close to t3/t4 at that point probably should just admit I want a bigger rig even though I love the idea of it being a tiny setup.
Dude! The 16-50mm is discontinued as far as I know, the new kit lens for cheaper bodys is the 15-45mm. Also: you forgot to mention the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8. I have that one and its fantastic! Very sharp, weather sealed, quite a bit less weighty than the 16-55mm f2.8 and it even has OIS ! :)
Thanks for the video Omar. I absolutely love the Sigma lenses for the Fuji X system. I have the 30 and 16 - this may be next because of its versatility. Love that minimum focus distance too.
I throw it in, let’s see if it catches any attention ;) Wouldn’t it be great if the focusing ring could be programmed to control the aperture? So you could have the best of both worlds: an aperture ring when needed and a compact clean design. What’s your opinion about this?
That's an interesting thought. You might be able to tell the camera to open or close the aperture but you won't be able to give it an exact number. Don't know if the camera expects that from the lens
Great video. I have a 16-80 f4 on my X-T5, and had been recommended to go for the 16-55 f2.8 for better quality pictures, and low light capabilities, and the lens has been described as a "bag full of primes". But it is weighty. Do you think it makes sense to go for the Sigma 18-50 as an upgrade to my 16-80, or is the image quality worse than the Fuji? Or get the Sigma, and keep the Fuji 16-80 (but the overlap seems so big?)
I'd guess the ois of the XF outplays the half stop aperture advantage of the sigma at 50mm. Would have been interesting to see how they compare wide open at the long end for portrait. That's the only scenario where they might really differ...
The Sigma has a full stop advantage at 50mm though? Plus, OIS can only outplay it in e.g. landscape scenarios. As soon as a subject moves or you want a brighter aperture for shallower DOF, OIS is useless.
Omar, great and funny review, as always - love your sense of humor 😀 but regarding to the lens itself, it could be a great, cheaper Fuji 18-55 lens replacement, with constant apeture, but.... it is the next lens for Fujifilm system which is useless for video, as it loosing focus while zooming in and out during video recording.... why... is there any lens for this system that can handle it? I had a chance to test out new 18-120 F4 power zoom for Fuji recently and this issue was pretty well solved in this lens, but the design of it and the power zoom itself is not for me, completely not Fuji style if you know what I meant. Tamron has the same issue in terms of focus loosing while zooming, so probably we have to wait few more years for a great allarounder for this system....
@@ogonzilla yes, sure it can be the reason. I am using my Fujifilm X-S10 and X-T3 so probably the new X-H series or X-T5 could hendle AF better in video mode. I am just wondering that Fuji could release some great lens even for older cameras directly or mainly for video shooters who really love that system 🙂

If they are in low supply it's because they sent it out to about 1,000 YTers LOL... I love my FF 16-55mm and have been using it on my X-T3 for the past three years works great for events.
@@sidvicious3129 I don't mean any disrespect, but one mugging does not a crisis make.
@@sidvicious3129 We're done here.
This might pair well with my XE4. I have the 16-80 and I'm finding it just too bulky. (I got it for the range).
Wait did Omar just do a subtle homage to Camera Crisis (Mark Bennett)? With the reference to his face and even the way he ended the video? Ha ha ha ha
Great value 😉!
I’m still trying to figure this out myself 😂
I ended up canceling my Sigma order, I remember not being super excited about my 18-55 zoom, figured I should try something else.
Investigating, thanks for the heads up.
Omar, it would be great to make a video with those "clinically sharp lenses" vs those with character for Fuji X mount. That would be a great video because you can share your thoughts and compare photos, colors, and other details. Great video about the Sigma 18-50 lens too. It's very good for street photography!
Nice review, in a language that we all understand.
Great video and funny as always!
I recently watched your covid episode from vice.. nice history photo out there
Can you please post comparison with X-T5?
It is a great lens, sharp as even with my H2. So small so light. Excellent with the xs20 i should imagine.
Looking into S20, 10-18+18-50 sigma OR thsoe w the XT5 😁
How is the lens for distortion and vignetting? A lot of Fuji folks take jpegs which means we either need in camera corrections to work (not typically the case for 3rd party lenses) or for the lens to already be well corrected.
Nice review. I'd be tempted, but I already own the 18-55mm and the 16-55mmf2.8.
Great video, thanks
is this lens good for fujifilm xe-3 (without IBIS) if i'm only planning to take pictures? will the photos be blurry during lowlight condition?
I'm currently using kit lens 15-45mm
It would be nice to have it on my Zfc ;-) . Sigma?
if I where to switch to fujifilm for street and urban photography, would I be able to obtain larger prints A2 or even A1 with enough quality for a gallery type showing of my work
I'm tempted. I love my 35mm F2, 50mm F2 and 27mm 2.8, but having a convenient zoom for travel and street that's small and 2.8... seems hard to resist at that price.
Agreed. Another 27mm owner here.
How do you adjust the aperture without an aperture ring?
Thanks Omar.
Keep up the good work👍🏻
Yes, was there for a few days.
Awesome with the XH2 as your not getting the aperture ring
Hey Omar! Are the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN and Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN in the pipeline? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you Omar for this review! Does this lens have automatic in-camera lens corrections in a Fuji body? Much support
Hi Omar, which one would you choose between this lens and the 16-80 ? Thx
Great vid as always and funny Ormar 🤣. I just wanted to know is the lense housed with plastic or partially with the metal in terms of it's qaulity?
Hard plastic. Metal mount. Pretty typical in this price point.
hi, I'm about to buy a fuji XS-10 and I'm in doubt whether to buy the fujifilm kit lens (18-55 f2.8-f4 or 16-80 f4) or this Sigma f2.8.
Still waiting for some primes. 105mm, 135mm. Too many options from 18-50mm range.
I heard in Australia it's called Amgis? 😮
what do u think about it versus the tamron 17-70? cheaper and lighter compare to a range to 70?
I always lean on small and light.
@@ogonzilla to fit the Fanny pack right?
@@erwastuy You know it. ;)
@@ogonzilla indeed ! I bought a fanny pack after i watched ur video. and I take so much picture now cause i always carry my camera
the best photography advice that i get
I was looking at the first comparison pics of spidey and I was like hmmm the Fuji has better contrast then I realized you have the labels switched 😅 on the screen.
Hi. how is the quality on 27mm? Is it better than xf 27/2.8? Fujinon 27/2.8 has no CA, it's outstandingly good at 5.6...
Aperture rings of my 16mm 1.4 and 56 1.2 sometimes annoy me because I change the aperture by accident.
What lens for video on my xt3 ? Any recommendations?
So this lens will fit on my Fuji X-A3? 😬
It's a sick little lens. I thought I'd use it for portraits but I kinda leave it on and do street with it
Would this lens be good for eventphotography? I am looking for a lens that is overal good and doesn't quite break the bank as I am just starting out with shooting some events. At the moment I'm quite limited with my 35mm prime.
How does it feel to manually focus with this lens?
Hello, Omar!
What do u think this sigma 18-50mm compare to tamron 17-70mm? so confuse which one to take 😁
Can't speak for Omar, but I think it ultimately comes down to size & reach vs OIS (Tamron calls it VC).
Wowowow...! Omar, at the end you said (I quoted) : "I don't have the X-T5 YET..."🧐 So, you're planning to purchase one in the coming...weeks ??
Maybe??? 😉😉
@@ogonzilla you're teasing me... 😏
Thanks Omar...., I'm using XT4 so.....
Tamron: do not forget our 17-70 mm f2.8.....
Thanks!
If I only did photography, I'd use this over the kit.
@@ogonzilla I have an X-E3 and I am strugling what to choice.... fujifilm 18-55 or Sigma 18-50
What have you choiced?
Hey Omar, another great review 🔥
your opinion, what to choose:
$270 fujinon 18-55 (yes, so cheap, new in the white box)
$620 sigma 18-50
in pair with my x-t5
(most of my photos are made at 35f2, I’m looking for a more versatile lens to use with ibis. In my location, 18-55 is twice cheaper)
You should be able to find the sigma cheaper
Hi Omar, did you try this lens also for video? Do you have an upcoming review of this lens performance on video? Thank you!
The whole video was recorded with it lol. Not extensively. But yes...I did the walk up to, duck down whole thing...but cut it out for time
@@ogonzilla i totally forgot about the first part 😅 This lens + a fuji body with ibis is going to be a banger. Thanks for the great review!
Love the Aussie reference 😂🇦🇺
Just when I thought I got through it all ya post this. Do you think the 16-80 is too big for the t-30 if I got a grip or the xs10 close to t3/t4 at that point probably should just admit I want a bigger rig even though I love the idea of it being a tiny setup.
Thanks for all the great videos!
I have the 18-135 which is similar size on the X-T30 and with a grip I think it’s fine.
too big for me...but not too much
@@ogonzilla Thanks Omar. Guess it’s the kit or the sigma’s. Big help!!
I use the 16-80 on my xt-30 with a grip and no issues. It's little big without the grip, but still fine.
What an awesome lens. That minimum focus and sharpness...definitely gonna get it! Thanks Omar
it's pretty nice!
literary the actuall bees for b roll, didnt expect that
I’m here for the bee 🐝 roll 😂😂😂
The point of this lens is that it’s smaller than the tamron 17-70mm
@@BryanMiraflor thats quite obviously not why I mentioned the Tamron.
this might be a lens to consider for me :)
Thanks for the video Omar. I absolutely love the Sigma lenses for the Fuji X system. I have the 30 and 16 - this may be next because of its versatility. Love that minimum focus distance too.
my goal is to to have a one camera one lens gear kit. film is so much more fun with less gear.
How do you think this lens compares with the XC 16/50, brightness vs stabilisation ( on an XT20) ?
This lens would be a lot sharper and better in low light. However, depends on if you're pixel peeping...no one will notice the quality diff.
Well, the Sigma clearly wins in terms of "brightness" because it has a faster aperture. But, Sigma lacks OIS, so 16-50 clearly won on that front.
Love this video! Thanks! Btw, can i know where you get all your Marvel figurines? Looks top notch quality!
Sideshow collectibles. They're limited so you can't have them. ;)
Wahahaha...bummer! : )
It could be the older camera's AF. I think Fuji's in an in between era of video AF. We'll have to see more XH2-XT5 example videos.
