Unless you are fortunate enough to have a friend or family member be willing to donate a kidney, as well as be a match, how realistic is it really, to get on the transplant list and have one be available for you… in time? I don’t mean to sound pessimistic, but roughly 13 people die each day waiting for a kidney due to the long waiting list. Of course, one wants to be smart and get on the list, but is it realistic to actually be able to get one? And what are the chances of a 60- something woman being able to get one when her kidney failure is due to an autoimmune disease? The likelihood is high that the transplanted kidney would also fail due to the autoimmune disease. What happens to her? I’m just being realistic here. I’m a big believer in hope and optimism, but not so much in false hope. I just want to know what the reality is when it comes to being able to receive a donated kidney. My chances are going to be lower because I am older and have few friends and family.

I was scheduled for double nephrectomy and implant this week but got the flu 2 days before. Guess it wasn’t meant to be 😞
