Thanks man and cheers
As you address each little annoyance on a particular car, your experience and satisfaction with it improves. This car has 2 persistent issues high on the priority list. Belt squeal and an oil leak. Only one. One stupid re-occurring and soon to be remedied oil leak. If both issues wind up being related, I'm going to spit. No matter where I am at the time. It's those issues you fix that keep coming back that do the exact opposite.
A note for the turn signals. You put some annotation in the video to add resistors, but instead try finding an led compatible turn signal relay if your car utilizes a relay. If it’s a newer car and uses a BCM to control the lights, certain models can have the computers adjusted to utilize the LEDs without having to mess with splicing any resistors into the wiring. Forscan for certain models of Fords is an example of such.
I could have spent $15 on a new relay or install a pair of 3¢ resistors ... but ultimately I spent $0 because I'm doing flashers and corner markers on a single-filament bulb with some creative wiring, and you might notice there's 3 levels of brightness. On, dim, and off. 1 filament. I don't think I can get an LED to do that no matter what resistors I use on a setup that's this analog. Nice tip about the BCM! I'm sure I'll be tearing into my F-150 eventually. Forscan... LOL!
@@Jafromobile I left this comment as more of a general FYI for anybody that found any interest in the topic mostly, but you being the tinkerer and madman you are I trust you’ll do what you deem necessary. Plus you might be liable to have the smaller inline style resistors whereas most people when considering using resistors for turn signals are going to run to the parts stores and grab this chunky, gaudy, anodized gold looking ones off the shelf costing them far more than ¢3 per corner of the car whereas a simple relay swap could save them money, time, and introducing a new potential entry point to their wiring harness for moisture. Have fun with the F150 if you ever try the Forscan out 😆 like I said, I’m not sure what year models it works on so as I’m sure you know it might require some research beforehand to verify. Hopefully next time you go to TnT you can make more than one pass and maybe even line up with the right grooves in the track surface 🤞🏼
Retrofitting LEDs, is OK for everything but headlights. Problem is...optics were designed for classic bulb and if you use LED instead they don't aim just at the road any more, but some light goes to upcoming traffic too. Another thing that bothers me is when people don't use e-brake when stopped at red light at night. When a car is behind you please step off the pedal. Sometimes brake light is so bright i am thinking of lighting them back with a flashlight.
Ah yeah electric power steering ftw! I've put my setup through it's paces this year with tons of everyday driving, a fair bit of backroads fun, and one trip to Tail of the Dragon and it has made it with flying colors! Safe to say it gets a huge recommendation from me! Looking forward to seeing the route you went parts wise. I like my GM setup, but I know people use quite a few other options for the column as well.
GM what? I've got something different, but I'm not convinced it will fit because Hyundai/Torque-tube-brake-pedal-assembly. I'm huge, and so are my feet. Haven't looked at all of it yet because I'm busting my can on a project that's holding everything else up right now. I haven't ruled anything out at this point.

It’s always a good day when there’s a new Jafro video! I’m surprised that it’s knocking at 11:4-ish AFR’s. Are you running just 93 octane pump gas? I guess I just don’t realize how terrible pump is these days. Especially when you’re running 20+ lbs of boost. I’d be curious to see what it’d do with a splash of race gas or E85. I always enjoy your videos. But especially the diy tuning. Cause I’m a diy tuner myself. Best of luck getting it sorted!
Gas nowadays is already 15 percent ethanol and the epa wants it 20. If he is knocking it could be poor fuel flow. A dirty injector, partially clogged fuel filter, voltage drop to fuel pump. Hell it even could be fuel slosh. If the fuel system is functioning properly then it's spark. Never count out oil consumption. A poor pcv system can introduce oil into the combustion chamber and since oil is not compressible it increases the compression ratio therefore requires higher octane to prevent detonation. I know you know but you didn't mention the fact he is running meth and that is a great substitute for race gas. He definitely has a fuel issue is my gut reaction.
man, my ignition table beyond 14 psi looks like yours. 5 degrees. i thought mine was a high compression motor thing. Looks like it is a fact of life regardless of compression.
The eyestrain is due to the blue light orientation of the LEDs. You'll frak your eyes due to that light. Never use any LED that's veered towards blue light, and if you want cool light in your place, ... don't. Use a mix of both warm and cold light. We're not built for cool light, we're built for warm light. It's ol' Sol's fault, G-type main-sequence star, all nice an yellow through atmosphere.
You got that right! Apply your mental energy only to those things which you're capable of changing or influencing. It's how you handle these situations that matters.
Trust me, plenty more opportunities coming to see Chad's car run. His fix was $0. KD's got a $100 15-minute axle replacement and he's fine too. "breaking" on launch is always the best place to do it. ...at least these are the things we keep telling ourselves. ;)
Check out raychem ATUM for your next heat shrink order. It comes in 4ft sticks is 3:1 shrink and glue lined. It is semi rigid so it strain relieves your connections as well as being excellent and watertight. It’s not super expensive considering how long a stick lasts. You can get it from lots of professional wiring supply houses. I use mouser but others have it too.
I don't know what electric steering system you plan to run but the ones that work by sensing input in the column and assisting can amplify torque steer if not set up right. The Gm system can tune some out but then have a bit of a dead spot. I'm going to try to use one that has an electric pump that pumps fluid instead of turning the column.
Switch your flasher to an “electronic” one that doesn’t rely on a thermal load to flash. I tried switching my 90 to leds but the bulbs didn’t seat so I gave up. Would love to hear from someone that had a brand that worked.
This one was an automatic! You'll find the GL models are more likely to have the manual transmission than the GLS model with power options. Those are the KM210 equivalent gearboxes. Fine if you have a stock, normally-aspirated engine, but if you want a manual Elantra with a turbo 4g63 in it, you'll want a F5M33 out of a 1g DSM. A few more mods to make it fit, but the DSM shifter also fits with a little persuasion.

Forgot what year this 2door GL elantra, the seller is asking 2500 best offer I think seller mention it has a slipping transmission. Lol Does your car have an Qualfy lsd in front. If not that might be why you ain't getting traction also, lower your tire pressure abit.
I think the pulley size differential between the GM and DSM crank pulley keeps putting my GM alternator into overload and turning off the voltage regulator. Either that or my alternator's sense wire is connected to a circuit that's affected whenever the engine is under load. It doesn't do it when I free rev, so that under load condition makes me think the fuel pump is causing all of it. If my impending fuel pump re-rewire and rear power circuit delete mod that's coming doesn't fix all of this, I'm going to dyno test the pulley/regulator theory.
Engineer your own parts? How about engineer your own 2-stage boost control system?? This video is good timing - as I'm ripping apart a 92 Laser AWD with at least 100 problems right now. Guess this test and tune is cheaper than dyno tuning.
Nah! Nobody gets a better deal on dyno tuning than I do now. You will see very soon! BTW... if it's AWD, then you shouldn't need a 2-stage boost system unless you're installing a HUGE turbo. If it's a medium-huge turbo,, just use a solenoid and a relay to bypass the boost controller when you're in 1st gear?
Your first order of business is to correct the voltage offset for whatever kind of of Wideband sensor you're using. That will help the WB gauge and ECMlink match. After that's correct, make sure your global fuel and dead time are correct for your injectors. Only then should you change the VE table. You can adjust the VE cells in the Speed Density tab that represent wherever you are sampling from (the "track" function I showed in the video) to add and remove efficiency (air) wherever you find those AFR values rich or lean. Adding air adds fuel wherever that cell may be because the fuel is calculated based on your global, dead time and air pressure. So adding or removing air via. percentages of volumetric efficiency results in adding or removing fuel. Don't go tuning anything until you get your Wideband to match. I think it's on the tab with all of your inputs. I'm using a known Wideband kit with values for it scraped from the ECMlink forums.
man jafro... why you gotta make me want to buy a LED headlight kit. my headlights still work fine because I bought philips bulbs over a decade ago for a different car and they're still bright examples of the best halogen can offer.
Keep rockin' 'em if you can see! Between glare from oncoming traffic, resistance, and viewing angle, I found my headlight bulbs could no longer compete. If there was traffic in oncoming lanes, my headlights didn't appear to be lighting anything at all from where I was sitting. Those Phillips bulbs were spectacular back in the day.
Because I've concluded it's just like riding an escalator on horseback, or setting sail on horseback. I looked at a few universal hydraulic power steering kits, but there's modern electric solutions that do the same thing and are arguably even better because they're incapable of leaking hydraulic fluid. I may do an electric hydraulic pump on my Galant though, because it's All-Wheel Steering is hydraulic, and I plan to repair and rebuild all of that somehow.

It will be this fall... The headlights vs short winter days have previously been a real bummer, but they're not anymore. Once it holds all of its oil and has no belt squeal, I'll drive it every day. All of the parts for those permanent repairs are already here. It's extremely streetable, and actually actually rather mousey with the cutout closed despite its cams. It's still cheaper on gas than my F-150 IF I can keep my foot out of it. If I don't, it's about the same. It's every bit as awesome to drive as my truck, but in a completely different and alien way.

The only way to make the best of it is to get out and do it while you still can.
@@Jafromobile agreed...Jafro 🏁
Best. RUclipsr. Ever.
I woke up this morning and thought too myself "I'm going to ask Jafro to release another video, it's been a while". I didn't need to, you read my mind! Another great video, even if it wasn't your best track day. We learn more from the bad ones, right. Anyway, the Hyundai gets to live on the road for another year so life is good.
This year it's going to THRIVE! Just wait until you see how I've cleared the logjam!
@@Jafromobile looking forward to seeing it.
For the headlights, you can get a projector retrofit kit that will use LEDs but won't blind people like using them in reflector housings will. I've done this to a couple of my cars and I absolutely LOVE the result.
I'm going to look into this. I won't do this before the shootout, and possibly not even to this car... but I have others...
@@Jafromobile you want MLED 2.0 from morimoto. They are the best.
Nice, another jafro vid!!
Anyday Jafro uploads a video, Is a good day.
You're right if it were easy it wouldn't be worthwhile... its all the little fixes that make it worthwhile.. keep on a-wrenchin' . Although my project (88jetta 8v) is long gone I still watch and appreciate what you are doing with the elantra. So here I'll wait for the next video just to see you work on your car.
Percussive Maintenance - Fix it like the Fonz. :)
Once again, great episode. Keep them coming! Best narrator on the tube!
Fuck yes another Jafromobile. I almost bought a house last month with a Jafro-esque garage. Had to let it go because of a foundation issue :(
Good on you for getting the inspection! Few people are even doing that these days.
The "Fonzarelli Fix", huh 😂👍
Cheap AF EPAS setup is to grab the rack and control module from a gen 2 Prius or a Yaris of similar year. Very easy and compact.
For every 10 Hyundai' s I see on the road, 8 of them have at least one non-working bulb. Including later models.
Sweet! That puts me in the top 20%!!!
@@Jafromobile The Chevy equinox and saturn vue have the column version, similar to the Prius (I think).
Then there's the Mazda3/Volvo S40 route that can be mounted anywhere, supposedly.
I did this on my 4g63t swapped '92 Mitsu mirage hatch and daily drove it since 2016 with no issues drove it on many twisty back roads, vary dependable GM/Saturn EPS unit, I also installed one in my 1g dsm, and since have done some for friends of mine did a few high powered 1g dsm's and GVR4's, and some 2g dsm's, the unit in the Saturn Vue is actually made in japan by Koyo with Mitsubishi electronics, if space is a concern I would recommend looking into the Nissan versa or Toyota Prius electric steering units.
Diggin' the face fur look.
variable load relay for the blinker circuit. thats how I fixed my LED hyperflash. the circuit works in reverse of a normal flasher relay, so the resistance doesnt matter.
09 toyota prius for your steering.
Easy and works with out any aftermarket controllers.

No more belt squeak !!! Or oil leaks or pump noise.
I'm 10:1 cr... ;)
Beware that not all LEDs are DOT approved and some VA inspectors check for that.
Gotta make sure that the... battery... is pure.
Yep, and the sun doesn't flicker at all. You have no idea how happy that makes me.
The world could sure learn a thing or two about keeping your cool when the heat turns up.
You got that right! Apply your mental energy only to those things which you're capable of changing or influencing. It's how you handle these situations that matters.
Come on you guys, there is a time and a place of course but losing your shit once in a while is good for the soul.
@@Milkmans_Son It certainly makes for better videos!
swap a prius steering column in, very popular swap for rally cars
Sucks to see everyone break, but I guess that's drag racing for you
Trust me, plenty more opportunities coming to see Chad's car run. His fix was $0. KD's got a $100 15-minute axle replacement and he's fine too. "breaking" on launch is always the best place to do it. ...at least these are the things we keep telling ourselves. ;)
Well, the macbook battery made me giggle 🤭
I always thought using the word "fire" in Li-Ion related marketing was dumb, but maybe it's not so bad...
Consider an HID projector retrofit in your headlights if there’s room.
Computer upgrades are frustrating enough without your battery shop fucking with you.
A number of people have done the Prius swap on the DSM platform.
Switch your flasher to an “electronic” one that doesn’t rely on a thermal load to flash. I tried switching my 90 to leds but the bulbs didn’t seat so I gave up. Would love to hear from someone that had a brand that worked.
Jafro - now you've been growing the hair for a while, time for an Aussie 80's style Mullet :]
Hopefully, in 20 more years you'll get the car working
Man, I want one manual Elantra, same year.
@@Jafromobile about an hour or so, from I found a 2door Elantra, yup the GL model.
I wonder why Hyundai haven't done a turbo 4door &2 door with a 4g63.
These just seem they have the space in engine and front bumper.
I know yours had a different front bumper but the stock 2door GL I've seen it looks like it's meant to have one.
Forgot what year this 2door GL elantra, the seller is asking 2500 best offer I think seller mention it has a slipping transmission.
I know our cousins from up north Canada they did get a similar hyundai but its non turbo 4g63 manual GL.

I've heard you mentioned electronic steering try source one from a car that's EcoBoost they have electronic power steering rack.
Relative has f150 ecoboost while back he need alignment done, dealership is only shop to do it, he was charged 2500-3,000 for new electric steering rack plus alignment. Lol
Does your car have an Qualfy lsd in front.
If not that might be why you ain't getting traction also, lower your tire pressure abit.
1 run...what a bummer. They definitely milked yah. Voltage seems all over the place when you were going through the log.
I live around rockville Maryland we should hit the track
Where did you get your led bulbs from?
On ECM Link how do you get AFR EST to match the wideband? Also my WB isn't reading right on ECMlink
Makes me want to actually make moves on my G4CP swaps instead of finding countless other things to pay my attention to
there are replacements available for the relays that will handle the LED blinking appropriately
Just do a power steering delete work those arm muscles

Electric power steering I did on my 1g eclipse I had. ruclips.net/video/-dsW5NiwXPE/видео.html
man jafro... why you gotta make me want to buy a LED headlight kit. my headlights still work fine because I bought philips bulbs over a decade ago for a different car and they're still bright examples of the best halogen can offer.
What about electric hydraulic pump for the power steering
