- The humble Honda Accord Mk7, also known as the Acura TSX and Accord Euro is an excellent car from a great era. Here's why I love the car.

I have a 2003 Accord 2.0 executive. Owned since 2005. 211,000 mile. Love it.
20 years nearly, awesome!
Ok
Great homage to this JJ. I ended up buying the MK8 civic as I preferred the practicality of the hatch but I really love this era of Honda, they’re fantastically well made.
The Mk8 Civic is a superb looking spaceship car, and a car I owned a few years back :)
Had my old Accord for 10 years, never planned to keep it that long, but it was just so good and you fall in love with them. It was great fun to drive, great chassis, super comfy, lovelemy vtec noise, well specced, superbly built and reliable. Replaced with a newer Civic, would love another Accord one day nd these 7th gen are absolute wonderful cars and great platform to tune.
I had a 2006 UK 2.0L. Best car I ever owned. Had it for over 10 years. Great engine and gearbox. Maintenance care only, no problems at all. Great round town, awesome on the motorway. If you need a good daily find one of these with reasonable mileage and you'll get a winner. The 2.4L must be great fun! Fantastic car. If Honda still sold them new in the UK I would have bought one.
Had the same gen Accord, and it simply worked. 😊 Had it for 6 years, the longest I've held on to a car. Completely faff free. That I really miss.
Isn't it nice when things, just, work.
Had an 05 accord tourer, a jazz and now a crv...all wonderful machines in their own way
My Fit or jazz as it's called over there has been the worst car I ever bought. The build quality is terrible. Foggy rear camera, broken back seat, huge epic water leaks, oil leak, motor mount failure, infotainment just went weird too.
Idk how Honda ever managed to build a reputation for quality. I cannot wait to go back to Toyota.
so maybe this why they use two different names for the same car, one name means quality the other one means garbage @@baronvonjo1929
@@baronvonjo1929 You might've been ripped off
Yep. Agreed. Our 53 plate Jazz shares the same nice click on the indicator stalk.
In the USA these were called Acura TSX. They had a more luxurious interior and options, sound insulation, and a reworked suspension to give it a smoother and more direct ride, I also believe it received a 205hp F series engine
yes the same k24 engine that was also available in europe
K24A2 it had.
They were rebadged Honda Accords. We had the Type S the Executive ( Luxury spec) and the base. The Fabric seats are actually more comfortable than the leather for me since they all have the same k24z3 and we got Manual in all trims I wouldn't care.. just needs Type R gearbox
This is the best looking accord
JJ I got inspired to buy a Honda Accord after seeing your original review a couple of years ago! And it has been above all our expectations! Its a car that I love to drive, feels so well built and it is a very nice to drive in a very old school way! I'm gonna have to switch to somthing else soon because of family growing, but its a car we will miss dearly!
Oh that's so cool, thank you for saying. Such a long time ago now that review, but I really enjoyed doing it. The early days when I just winged it and had a bit more fun in the process 😂 Great cars and I hope you manage to find something worthy to replace it!
A buddy of mine had this car as a Type S. Even though the car has been in a couple accidents, the doors felt lovely, the seats were really comfortable and the 2.4 had a great soundtrack with a injen intake and a decat. Major thing with these cars is rust, mainly around the rear arches. Even if you get it fixed it's prone to rusting again and the bodywork repair gets expensive. His car was rust free though and he covered i think over 50 thousand kms in it, every summer taking it to croatia, daily to work summertime/wintertime. He only had to sell it a couple months ago because he was having a baby and got a cr-v. His dad also has one with the diesel lump, a very clean exec model. Such tidy cars. I regret not ever asking to drive it.
The best thing about these honda accord is that they hold their value after 2 years of owning it, they can be sold for the same price you brought ii or more.
I have a 2004 Estate 2.2 diesel hand me down from my father. Other than the lack of 6th gear pre face lift and the typical Honda road noise above 100kph - I'd never replace it. I am in love with the estate design(you either hate it or love it nobody's ever in the middle :D ) It's not the most luxurious car but it had pretty much all the bells and whistles for the time and the buttons and controls are just out of this world. Every button is perfectly tactile, clicky or whatever you wanna call it even after 20 years. The stalks are also pure perfection. The leather seats are amazing. And the gear leaver... Oh that gear leaver. After you've driven one of these driving anything else feels like grabbing a chocolate bar that you forgot under direct sun for a few minutes. There are also no creaks and rattles in the interior. Literally none!
Not to mention the boot of the estate, which you can literally get lost in. I've stuffed the radiators from my apartment on one occasion and I've slept in it many times camping. No tent - no problem. You've got a double bed on wheels.
I've been treating the car like crap for 4 years, I'm ashamed to admit, because I can't afford to care for it the way I'd like financially at the moment, but it's been such a Honda about it. Runs like a champ and does 50 mpg with the crap diesel we get here in Bulgaria.
If the phrase 'They don't make them like they used to.' was a car it would be a 7th gen accord.
🙏🙏 Brilliantly said.
you're 100% right about the estate design - I've never met anyone who says 'yeah it's ok' 😄
as a Bulgarian, i drive 2.2 honda accord ictdi 2007 manual and its a great car! its faster than other 140-160 hp cars (dont ask me how i found out xD), its VERY reliable (this car dosent want break srsly, i drive it like a madman), its fast, its beautifull, its COMFY than merecedes' from the 2000s E classes. It got everything man i love it! I reccomend !!!
These are such a great car. We had a CL9 Euro 2.4 luxury pack, I paid $3500NZ for it and sold it 3 years later for $4500. Only thing it needed was to rebuild the power steering pump (it’s so good to be able to buy each individual seal inside the pump, how many other cars can you do that on) and had the alternator refurbed.
I’ve always considered these the thinking persons alternative to the E46/E90 (generally considered the benchmark for the class). I like a BMW too, but parts are pricey here.
We also own 2 Honda Jazzes, an ‘08 and a ‘14, and have owned a DC2R, EK4 and a CD6 Accord as well- suffice to say we’re a Honda family. None have ever left me stranded.
You made money on a car, that's good going!
Am I right in thinking CL9 = 2.4 and CL7 = 2.0, or is it some other difference?
@@JJonCars That’s right, the CL7 chassis code covers both the 150hp base grade car and the Euro R.
The CL9’s all had variants of the K24A, the JDM cars had the most power, but there’s not much in it.
Wagon is CM1 (2.0) and CM2 (2.4).
@@zeroyon4562 Thank you, every day's a school day 🙂
Manual transmission in Honda cars are excellent from a drivers experience in my opinion I had many Hondas (Jazz, Prelude, Accord, Civic) never dissapointed me that tight short throw stick.
I really like your car reviews. They are very pleasing to watch. I like your level headed, genuine, natural presentation, of course with lots of good information! As another commenter said, it's like listening to a friend. I have seen your review about the Vauxhall Astra 1.6T that you bought, and this is a car that I am interested in buying at some point when the prices fall.
Thank you Julian, means a lot! The 1.6T Astra is a great car and you won't regret the purchase :)
I've had the estate 2.4 now for 7 years, one of the best vehicles I've ever owned an absolute monster of reliability
Nice combo, estate 2.4!
Thank you so much for posting this. I always looked at these Accords and thought I wanted one but they were overpriced used (at least where I live). But now I can finally see why :)
You're very welcome! Yes, they do seem to hold their value well, especially in low mileage or good condition. But it's understandable why :)
Great video thanks. My 2005 Accord EX is sat on the drive waiting for me to get back to work on it and this video has somewhat inspired me to get to it!!
Excellent! Glad to help haha
driving Honda Accord mk8 2.4 petrol facelift, what a fantastic car.
Built extremely well and fantastic engine especially when using Honda type 2.0 0w20 engine oil, car accelerates so well
I love this channel, it's like spending time with a friend. Keep it up 😊
Ah thank you, that's great to hear 😊
Great video!
Your Accord is extremely well specified - especially for the year. Looks like a lovely motor.
Thank you!
I have the estate 2.0 for over 10 years now. Bought it in 2013 for €4500. It only had 150.000km on it (under 90.000 miles). Best buy ever. Now its over 400.000km (250.000miles) and its still going strong. If well maintained, these vehicles are tanks that will last for a long time.
I just got one for 1600€. It has 350 000km on it, but is in great shape
@@DarthBenderu great buy! I saw one for sale here in the Netherlands for similar price and similar mileage. Might be the same one?
Mines the same vintage 2.2 i -cdti Exec, bought in a rush as a gap filler, but it's a keeper. Love it!
I have a 2007 Accord coupe here in Canada...bought new and still have it as my 2nd winter car...such a great reliable vehicle.
I had a 2005 Civic Type S with 2.0 Honda K series engine, and boy what a motor. 158bhp of V-tech greatness, but would do 43mpg on my holiday run to Cornwall. I miss that car and I still regret selling it, even though it was 15 years ago.
Bet that engine was sweet in that old Civic with the dash mounted gear stick :)
@@JJonCars It was awesome. It was a beautiful civilised grand tourer that covered the ground brilliantly. Best Civic ever in my view.
We have an auto as a daily driver, and we love it's smooth gear shift, as well as solid stance on the road. You feel safe.
They're a great looking car, I'd definitely buy this car if I was looking for something with more presence and affordable as well
I own this car. I just bought it 2 months ago, it's a 2.0 Sport Xenon model. Very quiet, fuel economy is decent, the mixed leather seats are super comfy and the design is beautiful, it holds up with modern cars very well.
Takes me back... I owned a Blue/Purple 53 reg Honda Accord for 6 years. Same 2 litre V-Tec engine as yours. Had 5 spoke gun metal coloured alloys. Your instrument dials has more colours than mine though (mine were all orange) Great car as you say
I didn't realise they changed the clocks later on! Nice one :)
Great car I've had my own for almost a year and I love driving it everyday. It brings me old hot hatch vibes because of the high revving N/A engine.
Brilliant cars. Had an 07 did 50,000 kms in it no problems. Just do everything well. Still a good looking design.
I found myself buying an Accord back in 2006. I didn't really want it. It was the best I could afford at the time. Over time, though, I really fell in love with it. I kept it for 8 years (it's still going out there somewhere) I then owned a BMW and a Mercedes. If anything should happen to my current Merc, I'd probably go back to Honda.
I owned 2, one 2.0 with 17 alloys and a magnificent 2008 2.4 type S manual . Loved every minute both 100% reliable for 10 years
Never owned one but it looks a great car jj really attractive motor and enjoyed your video 👍
Thanks Colin, much appreciated :)
I drive a 2004 model and have done six hundred and eighty KLMs and still going strong
I purchased a CL7 in Jan 2018 and with tein flex Z coilovers it corners like crazy
Good old japanese cars, you cant beat them but wait...... somethings missing front seat JJ🤔........ erm... what was it now......... oh yes, ive got it. No back seat JJ
Ah yes... he was on holiday, or something. He'll be back, I promise 😂
Yeah I loved that advert
Owned a 2.4 ex one of these for 3 years, good cars. Change the ball joints.
I have 2007 2.2 iCTDI sport... bought 95k miles now got 200k miles on clock. This car is perfect, I love it. I recommend to get bigger alloys, I had same like yours, swapped to 17inch ep3 alloys and got sport tyres on it. It is like a complete new car, GRIP is insane, handling is SO SO BETTER I cannot stress enough .
I had a red 2006 Type S with over 300 000 kms on the clock. The engine just ran perfectly and it drove great with original shocks and suspension bits. I really miss that car, sad that these are prone to rust at this age.
I'm rocking a 2011 Honda Accord 2.4! Drives smoothly and is so reliable!
Had a 54 plate then a 08 for 2 years , really good car munched a 400 mile journey no problem. went for the next generation and again not bad , but Dull. This is the model to have. I remember the seats being very comfortable.
Just purchased myself a MK7 Accord tourer 2.0 litre petrol on your recommendation , also purchased a Jazz for my wife same model and colour as yours too . There's a lot resting on this 😂 , great videos and presentation . Honda should be paying you commission 😊👍
Hahaha, well lets hope the car is as good to you as it has been to us 😂 The tourer should be a nice practical car too. Cheers
It's funny, here in the US these are pretty common and a Focus is relatively less common. I noticed when I went over to Europe, Honda's weren't as common as they were in the states. I always thought their gearboxes were fantastic.
Yes, I always thought that you guys in the states were much more sensible picking reliable well built cars like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry - stuff that you just don't see over here.
The 6 speed is one of the best I've ever used
.
I doff my cap to this ode, that’s for sure.
Had the “Tourer" version of this with the 2.4 Vtec engine... an absolutely great car. Used it as an allround everything, including pseudo-van load lugger. Fair bit of poke, very comfy, ultra reliable and you could fit a Victorian wardrobe in the back of it. Bought it for a bit over 2 grand about 10 years ago, 1 owner full Honda history. I drove it from London to Puglia, in the heel of Italy, in 2 days, stopping overnight in Innsbruck, and it returned low to mid 30s mpg packed to the rafters and with two bikes on the towbar, and I didn't even give a moment's thought to making the trip from the point of view of comfort or reliability. Only sold it because RHD wasn't practical in Italy and replaced it with a Mk8 Tourer, diesel engine, which, though slightly more refined and frugal, is nowhere near as practical with wheel arches that intrude into the boot and a rounder rear that reduces load practicality. Still a great car, but I miss that old bird and her Vtec charms... Honda got it right with this range... criminally overlooked in UK.
Oh, and I kid you not, but I once transported a canoe for my sister INSIDE the car, from front dash to rear window, as I didn't want to buy a roof rack just for a one off trip down the M6... a tardis of a vehicle, that could hitch up her skirt when you put your foot down.
Wow! I do like the tourer version, sounds like an absolute beast of practicality - a canoe inside the car is incredible. 2 grand for one ten years ago is very good going, they wouldn't have been all that old by that point. Cheers Roger 👍
Yes, it was a bargain. It had a problem with the boot opener (the only problem it ever had), so had some Heath Robinson cable you had to hook your finger into by the rear number plate to bypass it. They were overlooked cars anyway in the UK, and i think this was putting off potential buyers. I’ve never understood the British fixation with European cars that have overhyped reliability long term. Japanese all the way beyond a certain number of years. The canoe was an eccentric moment… i could see the seller thinking i was crackers, but was even more surprised when i closed the boot and the canoe was actually inside. Keep up the good work@@JJonCars
It was a 53 plate at the time i bought it in 2013, but was still a great price... caught the seller on the right day. Nightmare to keep clean in black, however. Comparing the latest 2 gens back to back, i’d say the mk7 was the better car, if a bit boring to look at. They sacrificed practicality over styling in the later model. Certainly was something of a sleeper with the 2.4 vtec though.@@JJonCars
This is my favourite accord ever. I remember seeing one for the first time since these were japanese imports in Pakistan and just fell in love because we normally get only honda toyota and suzukis and this even though was a honda just looked a lot more sporty than anything i had seen from them.
Oh yes, I can imagine it really stood out as something special! Thanks for commenting, love to hear how these cars are perceived in other countries.
@@JJonCars well here its still fetching pretty penny and this segment is considered luxury especially with the features these imports had compared to the normal domestic made crap that was being sold here.
Nice one. They are not seen by many Brits as luxury, except to those of us who know they are :)
Hi, thank you, we have a 2006 2.0 Executive. We bought it new. It is a wonderful car. Hopefully we will drive it for another 18 years+! :)
37k original miles for just £4.5k is a steal! That car will easily last another 200k miles with regular maintenance
Amazing what you can get for the money isn't it :)
Got one my self 2003 same spec done 3k in it since owning it never missed a beat probs most reliable car I've owned mines now done 109k miles
I've had three accords cl9, cl7 and gen8 2l, all were manual. I regret selling the 2.4l 6-speed manual, it was such a good car. It was same blue color :D
The colour has grown on me, I do rather like it :)
Its clean looked after safe good condition it will serve its perpose
Never saw the ad. But hondas are fast thanx.
I have a euro accord it's done now over six hundred KLMs and still going strong, maybe it will do the million
Wow! Lets hope it can make it to the million!
Im from Chicago and it always confused me going back home to Poland and seeing these. Literally an Acura in the states XD
Lol yeah I bet. I would find it very weird to see a TSX, especially the fact it has a different interior to the Accord

I had a 2008 Accord, 2L petrol for 5 years. Did 105k miles, it had zero defects in that time. Not even a bulb. 😊
These are really great cars to those in the know. My father had one (a 2003) from new and kept it for seventeen years. Very well built cars and of course old school Japanese reliability. The K20/24 engines are some the very best by Honda and can easily go hundreds of thousands of miles with good maintenance. If I'd had the space I would have taken it from him as I was sorry to see it go. Sadly it wasn't an option for me though.
Always sad when we can't keep cars like that but as you say it's not always possible. Anyway 17 years is an amazing amount of time to have a car!
This is from the absolute golden era of Japanese cars the build quality was exceptional especially Honda which were built slightly better than its competition from Japan the late 1990s to the early 2000 they are reliable a testiment to that there are still a lot of them still on the road in Australia l own a late 1990s Toyota myself and it is still in good condition and the 22R engine is in excellent condition doesn't use oil starts on the button and it is carburated and has only done 435000 kilometres Honda were of a better quantity than the Toyota Camery but but the Honda was a little more expensive this is a nice example this Honda Accord they are still around but the Camerys are more popular and there are plenty of them around and are starting to go up in price because they are so good and reliable and Honda's are reliable my sister in law has the first generation Honda Civic and still drives ut around and she is absolutely loves it had a bit of a problem about a year ago all the coil packs went at once which they will do her husband hot some new coils and it was good as new thus Honda Accord will last another 20 years easily without any problems after all my list of reliable cars from Japan are Honda Lexus Mazda Suzuki and Toyota and one from Lydia the Mahindra starting to see those on the roads we also have a 2017 Suzuki Baleno a good little car my wife loves l have owned many vehicles in my 50 years of driving many commercial vehicles vans and Ute's and before the Suzuki we bought a Ford Fiests and honestly it was the biggest pile if crap we bought brand new back then l didn't realise European built cars were such piles of crap l don't like them fortunately Japan and lndia build some excellent cars that are reliable will last a very long time and are built to last and last in Australia there are more Toyota's on the road and in Australia you are never to far from a Toyota
Had one for a short time. Fine car, really liked it. Got rid of it cause it bent every single disk you threw at it... nothing helped, not even whole new s&s, hub etc. Went over to Subaru Legacy, and while it might be not that soft riding, quiet and comfy overall, it sure does what its supposed to do and is AWD. Ahhh, im a wagon guy.
My next car gonna be accord type s or base 2.4 timeless design
Hi JJ. I always loved the saloon, fabulous looking car but I could never get my head round the styling of the estate with that ludicrously long overhang at the back. It never looked quite right to me although underneath of course, it's the same quality bit of kit.
Cheers.
Haha I get what you're saying! The overhang is a pit ponderous looking, but in general I quite like the look of the estate. Cheers :)
The car still looks good today.. but there were issues with the steering rack and steering pump ,very expensive to fix. Diesel had timing chain issues, cracking exhaust manifold. K20/24 timing chain stretch. Other than that, very nice to drive. Going up in price, if you have the right model (Type S 😊).
They is a nice blue
Agreed!
When buying a new car 10 years ago I had narrowed my choices to 2007 Honda Accord and 2007 Saab 9-3 and I bought the Saab. I still have it and it’s been bullet proof car. Either way I don’t think would have had any regrets.
Yep, I'd be happy with either of those too
Loved my 7th Gen, I now have the 8th gen, which is also a very good car. It's more refined, but not quite as fun overall to drive as the 7th gen.
That's a cracking motor and I'm sure your papa is also pleased to be enjoying the vehicle - that is, when he can prise the keys from your hands! I would be tempted by an Accord in that similar condition and mileage, but the cost of insurance plus the road tax (£365!) and the desirability of the catalytic converters to non-desirables would ultimately put me off.
Lol! 😂 Yes, though I don't think he minds being driven around in it 😄
Yeah it's a shame with the tax, for me (and dad), that amount of tax is just par for the course with all the cars we've had before so it doesn't hurt so much. But to come from a mid 2010's £20 bracket would be painful.
I guess they are at risk for catalytic converter theft, but I've only ever heard stuff about the Jazz being a big target.
my first car is 2006 accord sedan with sport addons and still is it is fun to drive it doesn´t want to break and runs like a clock only thing i dislike is rusting i live in finland where every winter salt eats the car away and other thing i have 2.0l petrol k20z2 whics knocks but its not rod knock and sounds like a diesel when cold😅
We have a similar problem with salty roads here too. Great first car!
I have a 2.4 manual executive in beige leather and after a remap it's doing 50mpg!!! edit: on the motorway Couldn't be more happy with this car 😁
With regards to the steering does it have electric power steering or hydraulic?
This particular car has hydraulic, as do all UK Mk7 Accords. However I believe that in some countries the 'Euro' Accord which looks like this model had electric power steering. So you would need to double check depending where you are.
Owned a CL7 for 9 years. 2.0i-vtec. Not a single issue. Just refill fuel and drive. Sold it further, still drives. Big mistake for selling it. Probably in top 5 reliable cars in the world
I’ve got a 2010 330d…245hp and 40mpg…. What’s not to like?
I have 2003 Accord 2.4 TL JDM
This Accord is so reliable 😊
Watching this makes me realise I’m one of life’s ´sensible architects’ and that I should really invest in a polo neck and a big comfortable barge like this.
Are you an architect? You absolutely should wear a polo neck 😄
@@JJonCars Actually I'm neither sensible or an architect. Maybe it's time for a career change if I feel drawn to this car.

My 2006 TSX has 440,000km. I bought it with 15,000km back in 2009. It needs premium 91, no biggie. The 440,000 proves Honda engineering is bullet proof.

The estate is like the octavia estate its all the car you'll ever want or need tbh why get a range rover its a no brainer but some people are never happy. 😅😅
Accords are hard to fault I wish they made a type r version in the uk
Interestingly they made a Type R version for the Japanese market - sort of. Badged Euro R it had the engine from the Integra Type R DC5. Very cool cars.
Yeah we missed out there!
@@jdmguy44 yeah the euro r was a slightly different shape I think
If only they didn't rust so bad, rear arches, subframes and the list goes on.
Yeah, I think that's a problem with most cars really :(

You got me laughing when you said that it is better in the snow than a landcruiser

"... a very good sound system" That is certainly debatable. Don't get me wrong, we love Honda... have owned five over the years. Presently driving a 2016 Accord that we purchased new. There's no reason [other than perhaps cost] that Honda could not utilize a superb sound system ~ I've a friend that owns an Avalon, the audio in it is near concert hall quality.
Fair enough!
I love them, the used market is MEH on them.......
Sometimes a nice one will come up. But they can command good money when they're low mileage in good condition
5000€ for 38000 miles, in my country you have accords with 270000km and 4000€ now
We got a good deal I think :)
Not sure how relevant it is, but apparently the 2.0L Accords came with electric rather than hydraulic power steering (as with the 2.4L models)
Anecdotally, the hydraulic ones have better steering feel, it seems.
I'm fairly certain the power steering in this model is also hydraulic. It certainly feels it. But looking online it seems that in some markets the 2.0 did have electric steering. Quite strange!
@JJonCars It is hydraulic. Only the JDM Euro R had the electric steering rack. I am a bit surprised by your comment regarding the steering feel on this car. I own a 2007 Type S and I always felt like the steering is accurate and connected. Then again, I haven't driven nearly as many cars as you have. I was wondering, could you expand on that comment a bit more? Is it more of a suspension thing, or the rack thing?
had the 2.4 accord for a few months, loved the exterior design but the interior was meh and i am 1m86(not that tall actually) and i always had my hair touching the roof line like i sat in a freaking van, didn't like it much.. And of course the famous power steering issue on a so called japanese car i actually spent a lot of time at the mechanic, i was really let down because i had the 6th gen before and really enjoyed it more and became a Honda fan
Interesting, you're 2cm taller than me, I have plenty of room, but then all my height is in my legs lol.
@@JJonCars yeah i don't know either way still a great car but the crampiness inside is a trait of all the 4 door sedans of the 2000s
