Before you portion out the turtles onto the parchment, put the sheet into the freezer for a few minutes and the candy won’t spread out so easily. They look delicious 😋
Thanks for the tip! 😀
Good tip! Thanks
Thanks
Yes. Thank you.😊
Thank you! You just made my favorite candy of all time!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Homemade "TURTLES"!!! My absolute favorite of all snacks. Having a Peacon tree right outside my door means I won't even have to buy the main ingredient. How blessed am I... 😊
They are my favorite too! 😀
You are blessed
A very small bag of crushed pecans at my Kroger's is a whopping 7 dollars !
I love pecans but so expensive 😭 lol
@youwish378 They're lying everywhere around my tree. If you lived near me, I'd let you pick or pickup all the peacons you'd like for FREE! 😊.
@@U.B.T.
Lol that would be sweet of you ❤️ !
Use non-stick spray before putting corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk, or honey into any container. It won't stick to the container.
Thanks very much, I will try that. And thanks for watching. Best Wishes
That's what I always do, it works very well.
That's what I always do if I'm using corn syrup, honey or condensed milk!
Use bacon grease instead of the evil spray hahaha
❤
I love turtles. My sister in law bakes a lot, she may like this video. I would like to make them for our Christmas treat baskets.
They just remind me of Christmas. My family shares them when everyone is cooking. Best Wishes!
I love turtles and never once did I ever think about making them instead of buying them😂 thank you for this❤
You are very welcome!
These look great. Turtles used to b a fave....essential at Christmas.....but store-bought turtles aren't at all what they used to b now that they use palm oil. Not to mention palm oil is causing animals to be wiped out. I dont buy them. Ill b making these for Christmas presents....incl to myself :) Thanks!
Store-bought is expensive and not so great anymore. I like to make things at home. Then I know what goes into it, lol Thanks for watching, and Best Wishes 😀

Hope you enjoy. Thanks for watching!
Looks delicious! Thank you for sharing this beautiful recipe ❤️🙏
You are very welcome! Happy Holidays
Thanks again my friend
Thank you too, always glad to see your comments!
These look delicious, but before I jump in... is there a certain temperature you are aiming for when cooking the caramel part in the microwave? Should it be bubbly? Or just trying to melt the ingredients together? TIA
Caramel cooks at 320°-350°F. So you need to cook it in bursts with a candy thermometer until you reach temp. hope that helps. Just remember all microwaves vary in temp, so some take longer or shorter.
Thank you! In the microwave as we speak! @@thesouthernmountainkitchen
@@annamariemangili4869 You are very welcome.
Love TURTLES they are so expensive now maybe homemade can help with that Thank You for sharing your recipe 🙂
There is nothing better than making these homemade. Turtles are my favorite. I hope you enjoy them. Best Wishes and Thanks for watching
I have two bags of pecans in the freezer that I got from the food pantry, and some corn syrup I haven't used in years. Guess I got some work to do. 😂
Wow, white sugar, brown sugar, syrup, condensed milk . Super sweet.
Very sweet but worth it. That is why I only make them for holidays
Wow! Thank you for an awesome recipe. Keep them coming. 😊
My pleasure 😊 Thanks for watching. Best Wishes!
If ya use your butter cup for cornsyrup measuring the cornsyrup will just roll out.
Thanks for the tip!

NEW SUBSCRIBER!! HELLO FROM MISSISSIPPI
Hello, so good to hear from you. I hope you find some videos you like to watch. Best Wishes!
Thank you for sharing this marvelous turtle candy recipe. The tutorial is very clear and quite easy to follow. I am excited to prepare these for my family this season. Happy holidays. 🎄
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes and Happy Holidays 🎄
How many does this amount make? I'm dosing mushroom turtles...
Depending on how big you make them, you can make between 15 to 20
I love chocolate turtles and they are expensive in the candy store. I didn't know they were this easy to make. I am going to make some for the holidays. A box of homemade turtles would make a neat family Xmas gift. ❤🎄🎅🏿❤
Thanks for watching. Best Wishes!
Wow our family members used to sell those chocolate turtles in the cans back in the days for about $40.00 a can 😂😂 thank you for sharing looks very delicious!
You're welcome! Best Wishes
These Turtle candies look delicious! I will have to make them! Thanks.
I'm glad you like them 😀
I love turtle candy. Will have to make it. 😊
I love it too. Only problem is when I make it, everybody eats it before I can get more.
4 hours later and 2 disaster batches. So disappointing.
Sorry to hear that, so may others had had wonderful results.
Yesssssss! Turtles are my ALL TIME FAVORITE and now i can make them at home! You are the G.O.A.T❤
Yes, these are so good. I am glad you like them. Thanks for watching! 😃
Can wait to make these!!!
I hope you enjoy. Thanks for watching
Hello, how do you stop the caramel from sticking to the parchment paper after is cools. I made them for Xmas but they were all stuck to the paper. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I was able remove a few of them but they were very sticky.
Mine usually do not stick. You could allow the caramel to cool a little before putting it on the paper. I find that you have to get the caramel to the correct temp before using it. You could also do a light spray of non-stick cooking spray on the parchment paper. One problem I have seen for making this in the microwave, all microwaves have different cooking temps and sometimes they do not get hot enough.
I will be trying that easy candy recipe because candy like that cost a lot of money in store, but homemade 😊 taste better
Thanks
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching
If I wanted to make them using cashews , peanuts, or almonds, would I still bake the nuts?
Those other nuts are really thicker. So they would have to be handled differently. Since I have never made the Turtles that way, I am not sure how to cook them for it.
Thank you for sharing this delicious looking recipe! MY FAVORITE snack!! I will definitely be making these.
You are very welcome. These are one of my favorites for the holidays. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes!
I've made something similar in the crock pot. That's why I don't make it, we'd eat it!
I understand that. lol
This video stopped me in my track. This looks absolutely scrumptious. Thanks for sharing. Subscribing
Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate it. Best Wishes!
I know what i am going to do with all our Virginia Black Walnuts, this year! I know they will be delicious! Thank you for sharing! ❤
I love black walnuts. We used to get them when I was younger. What a cool idea for Turtles. Best Wishes!
@thesouthernmountainkitchen my dad brought some black walnut trees (sapplings) from Virginia to Washington State. He did this many, many years ago. Every year, I have to beat the squirrels to the black walnuts. 🥰
@@susanking9502 I am from Virginia and when I go to get the walnuts, the squirrels are all over them. But I still get a bunch
This looks so good! This used to be my favorite candy! I remember our church ladies sold them in cans for fundraisers. Please excuse me, I am drooling right now!🤪I must try this! It's been 40 years!
Yes, they are worth drooling over. They are my favorite candy., and are so good.
Ah yes, Katydids ❤
Yes Katydids! The best!
Do you stir the sweet mixture in between or just let it cook for solid 6 full minutes l ?
I would stir it
Looks delicious ❤❤❤
They are so good. I love them, one of my favorites.
Can we just melt chocolate chips?
If you mean to make the outside, probably. As long as they are meltable chocolate that rehardens, then go for it.
I’VE NOT HEARD OF THEM BEFORE BUT THEY LOOK SO DELICIOUS, A LITTLE BIT OF ALL MY FAVES, I CAN’T WAIT TO TRY THESE. 😋
These are so good, I am sure you will like them. Always been a favorite of mine.
Turtles❤
Oh my goodness, 😋 yummy thank you ❤️👍
My pleasure 😊Best Wishes!
Thank you! These and See's butterscotch squares are my fave. I've recently used a copycat recipe for butterscotch squares a couple of times and they turned out great. I had no clue that these would be so simple to make. Easier than butterscotch squares. I used to always buy pecan delights from the grocery store and was always in love with them. Over 10 years ago however they stopped being supplied to grocery stores in my area of Southern California other than the sugar free version. I have no clue why. Now I can make them myself which is better anyway!
My favorite
Mine too! Thanks for watching
so the total caramel cook time is 6 minutes
Depending on the temp of the microwave. They all vary. I would check by thermometer along the way so it is not overcooked.
We call this Pecan Clusters.
I've heard of that before.
This is great! I'm not a candy person but this is my favorite! Caramel is my downfall. I'm going to give these a try! Thank you!
You are very welcome. Best Wishes!
These are my weakness! I cant wait to make these! Thank you!
I hope you love them! Thanks for watching
You are speaking my language. Thank you😋
My pleasure 😊

Looks too good ❤
Thank you 😋 These are one of my favorite candies to make
Great video and recipe, thank you😊
Thanks I am glad you like it 😀
IT STUCK TO THE WAXPAPER 😭
I never had that problem. Not sure why you did.
My fav childhood treat
Mine too. They are so good!
❤❤❤
thank you. have been trying to find this in the american shop here in uk but nope ,so will now make it
Hope you like it! Best Wishes
@The Southern Mountain Kitchen just looked your cook book up soon as payday arrives I'm getting it I wanna try peacan pie!! Please open a restaurant in the uk your recipes look so good
@@katherinebyrne7831 Thanks so much. I hope you like the book. I wish I could open a resturant UK... I love so much over there. Be Well!
Can you do this stove top?
Yes, you can. The temps would probably change
How about a pinch of salt? Can I use dark chocolate?
Yes, you can use a pinch of salt, just not too much. And Dark Chocolate sounds really good.
Omg, these look great!😋 I can't wait to try them, all I need is the chocolate 😊
Thanks so much for sharing with us 🤗
You are very welcome. Hope you enjoy 😀
Can they be frozen?
I have never done it, but people have told me they did.
Wow looks so delicious. Do the pecans have to roasted?
I did because it gives a different taste and texture.
Most definitely! I now live where I have my own pecan trees and I never would have thought of roasting them first. But it makes all the difference in the world in flavor. It’s like pecans on steroids! Enjoy.
Semi sweet chocolate?
I used milk chocolate but you could use semi-sweet. There is plenty of sugar in this.
I love pecan turtles ,i will definitely try this.😊
Hope you enjoy! And thanks for watching!
Was that regular or sweetened condensed milk, please? Thank you! Want to make this for Christmas.
It is sweetened condensed milk. You are very welcome!
@@thesouthernmountainkitchen Cheers!
My local bakery makes giant turtles in milk chocolate and now dark chocolate! I'm telling you the truth they are about the size of the palm of your hand, and soooo delicious. Now I can make my own and I don't have to pay $2.50 for one giant turtle, Thank you!
You are very welcome. I know buying these pre-made is expensive. That's why I started making my own. Besides, homemade is better. Best Wishes and Happy Holidays!
That looks pretty good and easy to make.
They are! Thanks for watching!
What size spoon do you use to portion out the caramel?
I used a larger sized soup spoon to scoop it onto my pan. My turtles were rather large, so you could go smaller if you wanted.
My favorite. Thank you got it❤
You're welcome 😊
If I cook the sugar mixture in the microwave longer, will it taste more 'caramely'?
Maybe a little but it would probably burn at a point if you go too long
@@thesouthernmountainkitchen ok. I did it. But I did it on the stove so I could watch it. I put a couple of tbsp water in it. It turned out great. Oh, the temp reached 242°.
@@ladywolfwolf I am glad ti turned out well. Best Wishes!
@@thesouthernmountainkitchen Same to you and, happy holidays!
I know that mine will be. I'm gonna be so fat, eating a few, who am I kidding, most of these. 😉
@@ladywolfwolf LOL Happy Holidays to you too. I hope you have a wonderful time. I will be eating just as much at my house.
Can you increase sugar and eliminate the corn syrup? Avoid corn syrup like the plague.
The corn syrup binds it all together. Not sure of a substitute.
@@thesouthernmountainkitchenhave you experienced with using honey instead of corn syrup? I don't use corn
syrup.
@@Cynthia00007have you used honey?
These look so delicious. Yum
Thank you 😋
I grow my own pecans
That must be wonderful. I wish I could do it. I usually visit family who have trees to get pecans and walnuts. Best Wishes!
This look delicious will try this love turtle candy ❤❤❤❤❤
I hope you enjoy! Best Wishes 😀
Thank You.
You are very welcome!
Can you tell me what kind of chocolate.?
I buy the big 1 1/2 lb block of chocolate squares that says Almond bark on the outside.
Yummy❤
Thanks so much!
These look delicious. I just bought $30 worth and there weren’t that many in there. I’m going to try your recipe.
The ones from the store are really expensive. I prefer the homemade ones, then you can control the size and ingredients. Best Wishes!
@@thesouthernmountainkitchen Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. Merry Christmas to you and yours. ❤️
@@Hunee- You are very welcome! Merry Christmas to you and your family too!
I use 2 chef's knives with the handles together when chopping that amount of nuts. It makes it go so much faster.
Cool. Thanks for watching!
Yummy. I love turtles. You make it very easy to prepare them. Great video.
Thank You!
spray the cups with cooking spray and it is supposed to help the corn surup or whatever come out easier
Thanks for the tip, always appreciated. Best Wishes!
Spray your bowls and utensils with oil before you get ingredients in them and they will come out very easy!
Great tip! Thanks
Thank you! I had no idea they would be so easy to make. Merry Christmas ✝️
You are very welcome! Merry Christmas to you too!
Did you mix chocolates? Semi-sweet? What type did you use?
I used the big block of chocolate you can get from the grocery store called Almand Bark Chocolate. You get a lot of chocolate for a good price.
In your vlog, you referenced that the caramel needs to reach "the temperature it needs to be" but you did not mention what that specific temperature is. There is a significant variable in microwave wattage, hence cooking time! Any chance you could provide the finished caramel temperature?? Thank you!
Temps vary per microwave. Microwave on high for 5 minutes and then stir. Continue microwaving and stirring 1 minute at a time until the temperature reaches 240° or a little above
@@thesouthernmountainkitchen Thank you; the finished caramel temperature is extremely helpful! I'll try this tasty-looking recipe this weekend!
What a great video, I subscribed! Looking forward to seeing more videos, thanks!
Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate you watching. Best Wishes
Can I use dark chocolate?
Yes, dark chocolate would have a really great taste.
With the 4 types of sugar, it seems like they would be overly sweet, are they?
They are actually not too overly sweet. They taste mostly of the chocolate and caramel. Best Wishes!
My sister makes hers every year ❤ it's worth the wate yummmmm and from what I've seen on your delicious
I can't wait for these every year. Always my favorite to make for the holidays!
That is just too much! I could just taste those turtles. I will make them. Thank you.

Mmm. Looking forward to trying this with dark chocolate.
Yes, dark chocolate is so good with these. Any way you make them, they are amazing. Best Wishes!
