I have a 2020 RK standard. I think the mirrors are the best i have had on any bike. When you go to start just wait until you hear the click (the cylinder decompressor valve opening) easier on the engine and battery. I put rear bag light, break, stop and indicator. Very pleased with them, much more visible from the rear. Enjoy
I traded my 2010 Street Glide I had for 10 years for a 2020 Stone Washed White Pearl Road King. I love it for all the same reasons you've mentioned. Try Custom Dynamics for turnsignals and brake and Truck Mall head light and driving lights (Amazon) for your LED lighting. Enjoy!
You are absolutely correct, I love the view of the road too. I will be trading in my bike for a Road King, I am gonna wait till 2022 bikes come out. I will be getting black and chrome with 16" apes, stages 1 and 2, slip-on pipes, for Harley noise. Lol, Enjoy your new Road King. Take care
The best looking Harley Davidson touring motorcycles. Hands down. Simple, clean and devoid of unnecessary clutter. Add a removable windscreen and only the open road in front you. The way it was meant to be. I’d keep those passing lights on full time. More visible and it looks great from the front. I’d also install Custom Dynamics LEDs everywhere you can install them. I've been out of the Motorcycle "Business" for 20 years, then I got the Itch again, during the "Pandemic". I started back on a Very Nice (used) 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 900LT, about a Month ago. What a Great Looking Bike! Perfect Bike to "Build-Back" Your Confidence.
We have a similar back story and the 900 is great for getting back into riding. I thought I would keep it for years, however, happy with the RK. Would have been nice to have them both, Vulcan 900 and the RK.
I was worried about that also but it is not very hot. I rode through the Mojave desert and worried about the heat but it did well actually. Plus, it is not just air cooled, it is also oil cooled.
Hello CFM. I recognize the area you were riding in. I lived in the western part of CC county til 2011, when I moved to the Sacramento area. I bought my first Harley, a 2008 Electra Glide Classic in October of 2007. I sorta had a mid-life crisis, cuz about 7 months later, I bought a 2008 Dyna Wide Glide. And about 6 months after that, I bought a 2008 Road King. Yep. Three new Harleys in my garage. I was single and without kids, so I went a little crazy. In a few years, I had sold the WG and the RK and was left with my EG. In 2015 bought a used 2010 EG that I upgraded with some power goodies, and sold it in 2020. At this point in life, at age 72 with no bikes, I'm considering buying another Harley, and the RK is the one I want. When I ride, I don't want to hear anything but the wind and the bike. No more wasted money on speed stuff. Maybe an oil cooler, some hiway pegs, and a windshield bag. You've got a nice bike, man. Take care and stay safe. Rubber side down.
I chose the 2020 Road King Standard for almost the very same reasons. I came close to buying the Heritage before I realized how close it was to the RK in price, and that the RK seemed a better choice for the money. Highway bars, touring frame, overall a more comfortable and roadworthy motorcycle. Still expensive, but I have no regrets.

Having bought one recently, this addresses what I was concerned about buying one new which I did tail end of 2021. In GB we look at HDs and think FMOB, great iconic bike. Adventure bikes look naff, we want character, reliability, will pay for quality. lovely bike, smooooooth.
Beautiful Bike! I have owned two a 2014 and 2017 currently. Both are vivid black just like yours. My friends own Road glides and Street Glides and Dynas which are cool but I love the classic looks of the RK.
Great video on the Road King! I recognized my old stomping grounds! I grew up in Concord, worked in Antioch, and now retired and living up in Murphys - near Angels Camp! I went to Eagelsnest HD In Lathrop to buy a Road King, but, left with a 2021 Ultra Limited! That was 1 1/2 yrs ago. I sold my Indian Chieftain that I bought new from Arlen Ness motorcycles 5 yrs ago! I still might purchase the Road King. If you ever ride up here I’ll buy you a beer!

I love my 09 RKC. It came with a factory SE 110 which is an excellent powerplant that handily keeps up with the new 117s. The first owner had low air shocks which were horrible so I put legends in and the bike is superb. The many hours polishing chrome gets tiresome but other than that, she is a great bike for less than half what a new base model costs.
I hear the SE 110 is a great motor. I have ridden with others with them and they have no problem. Even with my 107 I can keep up with bigger engines. I may look into upgrading my suspension after my road-trip, and you are one of many who has suggested Legend suspension and that is going to be the first ones I look at. The CHROME! Totally agree, I just want to ride! LOL. But I try to find time to clean the RK up on non-riding days (weekdays). I love the look of bald and chrome, but I would have t think hard if I would get it again in the future if I ever decide to change to another motorcycle :) Stay safe my friend!
It’s funny. All the Harley’s I have had have hd a heel shifter. If not I added it. The road king is a nice bike. Many bikers keep pointing to the cost vs a metric and while I have owned a metric ( Honda VTX 1300r) it was just not the same. It’s the little things. The paint, better made parts , a massive aftermarket etc. when you trade them in they hold their value much better than others too.

I like your video and I think you got the best bike the road king is my favorite I like the road king special but both road Kings are excellent bikes. Looking at the scenery it appears to be in South San Jose Gilroy area I lived in California about 30 years and moved back home to Battle Creek Michigan in 2013 I spent my last 20 years in Santa Cruz. Winter is just starting cold weather is coming in fast and I sure am tempted to go spend the winter with family in San Jose. Keep up the good work on those videos I enjoyed them very much take care my friend.
I agree, the Road King special is very nice and really like the sporty look of it. However, the standard has so many more features that made me go that way, crash bars, windshield and what looks like a More comfortable seat. Like you said they are both excellent bikes. I am actually in the east bay now, however, I lived in the Willow Glen area. We loved it there, but just affordable in the east bay :) Take care and stay warm my friend :)
I did mine, it's in the manual with a chart that guides you where you should have it based on the weight you and or plus your passenger. I have mine pretty stiff to be honest and I like it... especially when on those twisties
OMG it’s such a trip watching this I have a 2019 so it’s like the same bike. .. I see that view of the bars and Speedo daily.. and the vivid black tank.. And that rumble. Isn’t the RK the best bike ever.

I have to say that you will not regret it. The RK is soooo smooth and inspires confidence. I will do the "stages" of upgrades sometime in the future, however, having a blast with just the way it is for now. Stay safe out there!
I love the look of the RK but cannot afford one. As a good alternative I have a Softail Low Rider (baby RK in my mind), probably more suitable for UK roads. Thanks
It has been warm here lately however, love how it keeps the wind off my chest. That said, I did ride on HWY 1 to Monterey and now that you mention it I did not get cold at all... hmmm. :)
I was happy with my Kawasaki 900 classic and was willing to step up to a bigger Kawasaki. I test rode one then the next stop was an HD dealer where they really took care of me and happy with the Road King Classic. Stay safe out there!
Great review, are you going to changeout the headers and tailpipes ? Tune ? Unless you have an extended warranty... I’m a huge fan on Roadkings, I had a 2003 and now a 2009 CVO Road glide upgraded cams and tune/Dyno. But the Roadking is my favorite bike of all, especially the 2003 Anniv.
Bro, You would have hated the Kawasaki Vaquero, I sold my voyager which had the same fairing motor ect.. Those bikes run so hot it's not funny!. The big radiator up front plus the pipes blows a ton of hot air up and on you all day long!. Kaw has major complaints on this problem and was a very bad desing in the fairing and lowers air flow. I basically got heat stroke!. The only partial fix was to wrap the lower pipes with heat wraps, trying to get that rising heat behind the rider. It never really worked. I sold mine like so many other people. it rode very nice but, too hot and heavier than almost every bike out there at over 900 lbs.!...
I'm trying to decide on the 2021 Road King or the Indian Springfield, ground reach, and top end engine noise is important factors for me... lol.. my 53 hardtail was smooth too (while on a smooth road like the one you were on)
I was in the same place with the Road King vs Indian Springfield. I think the Indian Springfield is a beauty and was excited to go look at it. For me, when I sat on the Indian Springfield it just did not feel right to me. Felt a bit higher and I had to hold it up more - I know, maybe weird but I was honestly disappointed because it seemed to not fit me. That said, when I sat on the Road King it just stood up with ease and I honestly thought the dealer had something that was holding it up so customers don't drop the bike. Plus, the seat was much more comfortable and easy for me to flat foot it. So I ordered one and did not even test drive it. This is how it worked out for me. Would recommend sitting at least 15 min on each bike to get a feel. Either way you have a good problem to solve :) Stay safe out there!
Stock pipes I reckon- 2021 models won’t accept a tuner,! Also the combination speedo won’t work in the 2021 RK - those are the key changes that the new 2021 Harley ecm has created- you cannot alter the tuning 😩
Yes it is. It is bigger and more comfortable. It has a 6th gear for highway cruising which will be smoother. More torque and power. Definitely a big upgrade all around.
Yes, night and day difference but totally worth it. In just a couple oof weeks I feel it is good (for me) for local riding and long trips. The Vulcan 900 is a great bike and happy that I started there. Not a fair comparison as the RK has a touring Frame, ABS, cruise control and so much more that will make you want to go on long rides. Just went out on a group ride with others with 114's and the 107 keeps up with no problem. I googled the difference and... Harley says the engines make 10% more torque than the previous versions, but the factory did not release horsepower numbers. According to the EPA release, though, the new 107 produces 92.53 horsepower (69kw) @ 5020 rpm, and the 114 produces 100.57 horsepower (75kw) @ 5020 rpm for the 114. I am not disappointed at all :)
Not till I read this and went for a ride I now notice that the chin mount does make me tilt a bit further but not much. But yep, you're right. But honestly not too bad for me. :)
Would you please share your opinion of the Heritage compared to the RK? Many reviews would direct someone of your size 5'21" to the heritage. Thank you!
I was torn between both of these, Heritage vs RK standard. They are both great bikes, however, the reason I went with RK is because I am 5'10" and just over 275 pounds. Plus, I know that I wanted to take long road trips and the RK has the touring chassis. The Heritage can go on long rides but as I looked into it, the RK is much more comfortable. Just did my first road trip on the RK and it did great. Hope you subscribe as I will be uploading that trip along with what I have learned. That said, also ride the RK around town, to work and the backroads and have no regrets. Hope this helps. At the end I think the decision is based on your stature and what kind of riding you will be doing.

The biggest problem I have with the decision is that I do not plan on going on long trips while also wanting a very comfortable bike. It sounds like the road kings a little bit more comfortable than the heritage. I guess that answers the question. Mother thought was with the Road King feel too bulky around town. Some people have talked to said that it is fine. I am probably overthinking that. I need to test drive both bikes to be sure. Thanks again.
For me, I enjoy the RK around town and on the back roads. I have only taken one road trip and honestly I am not going for many day road trips very often. But the comfort, to ability to handle around town, plus ready for the long road trips is why I am happy I made the decision on the RK.
Hey bro I want to trade in my iron 1200 for this one. The iron is my first bike and I've had it since november.. I feel like I need something a little bigger since I'm a taller guy. Do you think this is a good upgrade?? Or do you think it might be to big for me ?? Like as in I should wait a bit before doing this big jump. Thanks in advance
Hey! I came from a 903 cc and I thought the same thing. To be honest when I sat on the RK I thought it was intimidating. That said, I put like 6 thousand miles on my Vulcan and was practicing slow maneuvers along with breaking. Don't get me wrong, there is always room to improve and we should continue to practice. But I thought I was ready and it was a simple transition. I was actually worried about getting up on my driveway as it has a huge bump but on week 3 and I got the hang of it. HD will let you test drive one, you may be pleasantly surprised that you will be ready. But trust your gut when you sit on it and the results after a test ride. Stay Safe and keep me posted!
I just saw a 2016 Vulcan classic at the dealer with 3000 miles for 6 thousand ..I am beginner feels good and light ..any complaints or any info you can give me I appreciate ..does it have good power for me and another person behind ..thanks
I will be honest... I am a big guy almost 300 pounds and it never lacked any power for me. I never had a passenger but with my weight I am guessing it would be close. I have heard the Harley 883 is a good beginner motorcycle... why not the Vulcan 903, right? I don't know your specifics but I selected this motorcycle since it is not small, does not look like a beginner bike, plus they look great. The only reason I upgraded is because I wanted ABS and be able to ride long road trips. It can be done on the Vulcan 900 but it was just what I preferred. Let me know if you get it! I doo not think you will go wrong learning on this one.
Even though I also have V900, and I like it, the HD Road King has always been my fav line HD offers. Love the look. Congrats and good luck with it. New subscriber (maybe return the favor?). Be safe!

I like your video and I think you got the best bike the road king is my favorite I like the road king special but both road Kings are excellent bikes. Looking at the scenery it appears to be in South San Jose Gilroy area I lived in California about 30 years and moved back home to Battle Creek Michigan in 2013 I spent my last 20 years in Santa Cruz. Winter is just starting cold weather is coming in fast and I sure am tempted to go spend the winter with family in San Jose. Keep up the good work on those videos I enjoyed them very much take care my friend.
I agree, the Road King special is very nice and really like the sporty look of it. However, the standard has so many more features that made me go that way, crash bars, windshield and what looks like a More comfortable seat. Like you said they are both excellent bikes.
I am actually in the east bay now, however, I lived in the Willow Glen area. We loved it there, but just affordable in the east bay :)

The suspension is adjustable. I’ve never done it myself.
I did mine, it's in the manual with a chart that guides you where you should have it based on the weight you and or plus your passenger. I have mine pretty stiff to be honest and I like it... especially when on those twisties

Great video. I’m getting ready to change out my Dyna for a Road King. I’m actually wanting the same one you have but putting in the Screaming Eagle stage 4 kit in it.
I have to say that you will not regret it. The RK is soooo smooth and inspires confidence. I will do the "stages" of upgrades sometime in the future, however, having a blast with just the way it is for now.

I love the look of the RK but cannot afford one. As a good alternative I have a Softail Low Rider (baby RK in my mind), probably more suitable for UK roads. Thanks

It has been warm here lately however, love how it keeps the wind off my chest. That said, I did ride on HWY 1 to Monterey and now that you mention it I did not get cold at all... hmmm. :)

I was happy with my Kawasaki 900 classic and was willing to step up to a bigger Kawasaki. I test rode one then the next stop was an HD dealer where they really took care of me and happy with the Road King Classic. Stay safe out there!

I’m a huge fan on Roadkings, I had a 2003 and now a 2009 CVO Road glide upgraded cams and tune/Dyno. But the Roadking is my favorite bike of all, especially the 2003 Anniv.
Eventually, I am still breaking this one in.

Bro, You would have hated the Kawasaki Vaquero, I sold my voyager which had the same fairing motor ect.. Those bikes run so hot it's not funny!. The big radiator up front plus the pipes blows a ton of hot air up and on you all day long!. Kaw has major complaints on this problem and was a very bad desing in the fairing and lowers air flow. I basically got heat stroke!. The only partial fix was to wrap the lower pipes with heat wraps, trying to get that rising heat behind the rider. It never really worked. I sold mine like so many other people. it rode very nice but, too hot and heavier than almost every bike out there at over 900 lbs.!...

I'm trying to decide on the 2021 Road King or the Indian Springfield, ground reach, and top end engine noise is important factors for me... lol.. my 53 hardtail was smooth too (while on a smooth road like the one you were on)
I was in the same place with the Road King vs Indian Springfield. I think the Indian Springfield is a beauty and was excited to go look at it. For me, when I sat on the Indian Springfield it just did not feel right to me. Felt a bit higher and I had to hold it up more - I know, maybe weird but I was honestly disappointed because it seemed to not fit me. That said, when I sat on the Road King it just stood up with ease and I honestly thought the dealer had something that was holding it up so customers don't drop the bike. Plus, the seat was much more comfortable and easy for me to flat foot it. So I ordered one and did not even test drive it.
This is how it worked out for me. Would recommend sitting at least 15 min on each bike to get a feel. Either way you have a good problem to solve :)

California has not approved the stage upgrades... sigh! But do want to do them, thinking of getting stage 1 & 2 at the same time. What do you think?
Stock pipes I reckon- 2021 models won’t accept a tuner,! Also the combination speedo won’t work in the 2021 RK - those are the key changes that the new 2021 Harley ecm has created- you cannot alter the tuning 😩
Yep, HD dealer said the tuner is not yet approved in California. I look forward to stage 1.

Yes it is. It is bigger and more comfortable. It has a 6th gear for highway cruising which will be smoother. More torque and power. Definitely a big upgrade all around.
Yes, night and day difference but totally worth it. In just a couple oof weeks I feel it is good (for me) for local riding and long trips. The Vulcan 900 is a great bike and happy that I started there. Not a fair comparison as the RK has a touring Frame, ABS, cruise control and so much more that will make you want to go on long rides. Do you think the 107 is enough power?
Just went out on a group ride with others with 114's and the 107 keeps up with no problem. I googled the difference and...
Harley says the engines make 10% more torque than the previous versions, but the factory did not release horsepower numbers. According to the EPA release, though, the new 107 produces 92.53 horsepower (69kw) @ 5020 rpm, and the 114 produces 100.57 horsepower (75kw) @ 5020 rpm for the 114.

I was torn between both of these, Heritage vs RK standard. They are both great bikes, however, the reason I went with RK is because I am 5'10" and just over 275 pounds. Plus, I know that I wanted to take long road trips and the RK has the touring chassis. The Heritage can go on long rides but as I looked into it, the RK is much more comfortable.
Just did my first road trip on the RK and it did great. Hope you subscribe as I will be uploading that trip along with what I have learned. That said, also ride the RK around town, to work and the backroads and have no regrets.
Hope this helps. At the end I think the decision is based on your stature and what kind of riding you will be doing.

The biggest problem I have with the decision is that I do not plan on going on long trips while also wanting a very comfortable bike. It sounds like the road kings a little bit more comfortable than the heritage. I guess that answers the question. Mother thought was with the Road King feel too bulky around town. Some people have talked to said that it is fine. I am probably overthinking that. I need to test drive both bikes to be sure. Thanks again.
For me, I enjoy the RK around town and on the back roads. I have only taken one road trip and honestly I am not going for many day road trips very often. But the comfort, to ability to handle around town, plus ready for the long road trips is why I am happy I made the decision on the RK.
Hey bro I want to trade in my iron 1200 for this one. The iron is my first bike and I've had it since november.. I feel like I need something a little bigger since I'm a taller guy. Do you think this is a good upgrade?? Or do you think it might be to big for me ?? Like as in I should wait a bit before doing this big jump. Thanks in advance
Hey! I came from a 903 cc and I thought the same thing. To be honest when I sat on the RK I thought it was intimidating. That said, I put like 6 thousand miles on my Vulcan and was practicing slow maneuvers along with breaking. Don't get me wrong, there is always room to improve and we should continue to practice. But I thought I was ready and it was a simple transition. I was actually worried about getting up on my driveway as it has a huge bump but on week 3 and I got the hang of it. HD will let you test drive one, you may be pleasantly surprised that you will be ready. But trust your gut when you sit on it and the results after a test ride. Stay Safe and keep me posted!

I just saw a 2016 Vulcan classic at the dealer with 3000 miles for 6 thousand ..I am beginner feels good and light ..any complaints or any info you can give me I appreciate ..does it have good power for me and another person behind ..thanks
I will be honest... I am a big guy almost 300 pounds and it never lacked any power for me. I never had a passenger but with my weight I am guessing it would be close. I have heard the Harley 883 is a good beginner motorcycle... why not the Vulcan 903, right? I don't know your specifics but I selected this motorcycle since it is not small, does not look like a beginner bike, plus they look great. The only reason I upgraded is because I wanted ABS and be able to ride long road trips. It can be done on the Vulcan 900 but it was just what I preferred.
Let me know if you get it! I doo not think you will go wrong learning on this one.
