My ex husband abused me in many ways for years and he got away with it due to lack of evidence and "lack of witnesses". Like what in the heck? yeah like he's going to hit me in front of dinner guests. Sorry he didnt hit me in front of neighbours...jeez. The police took out an intrim DVO (domestic violence order) and the judge granted it for 6 months which after what he put me through is a slap on the wrist and insulting to me. He even got custody of my daughter (long story) Often when victims of abuse get blamed - it just adds to the trauma and makes us feel invalidated and insulted, they act like it never occurred. My therapist said, just because others believe him and not you, doesnt make it false. It DID happen, you know, your family and friends know the truth. His friends just believe his facade he puts on and its quite sad that people get fooled by these monsters everyday. I feel so horrible for other victims of dv. ❤ Stay strong guys. They beat you down mentally and emotionally, then physically. They make you seem crazy and unstable, while they seem well put together and sane. It’s total manipulation. They ruin your credibility and then when you are in a position to get help, your too scared. So sad. I went through the same thing but I was able to get out alive. They are so unpredictable, you literally cannot get a step ahead of them because they’ve already thought about it and have everything planned out. They are the master of their sick twisted games and the only way to make it stop is to RUN. I hate that this happened to her. She was such a beautiful person, full of life & love. I took a self defense class led by a Utah cop. He was explaining that it is protocol in a domestic dispute case for Utah police to take the person with the least amount of injuries to jail/be cited. EVEN if it’s in self defense. Which is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
The police officer leading the class said if a woman is ever in a position of defending herself and she ends up hurting the male, she is supposed to say, “I was afraid for my life, I used the force necessary to protect myself”.

I can’t get over the fact that Gabby was described in the police report as “confused and emotional.” Emotional, yes. But “confused” is such a derogatory and victim-shaming description of her mental state. She is level-headed, very aware that she is hurting, and very aware that she does not feel safe with him. She communicated the day’s events to the officer clearly and without any “confusion.” She communicated with great emotion - which the officer should have understood included sadness and fear, based on her description and obvious demeanor. The police did not ask the right questions. They instead made unforgivable assumptions, and degraded her supposed mental state to a level of “confused” with absolutely no evidence. This is freakin’ gaslighting-level behavior on their part.
Why didn’t they ask her, “do you feel safe with this man?” “When he locked you out of the vehicle, did he make you feel safe?” “When he grabbed your chin and caused you physical pain against your will, did he make you fee safe?” “Did he make you feel safe when he degraded your dreams?” “Do you think he might hurt you again?” “Are you certain he would not do this again?” “Do you have someone you feel comfortable sharing your fears with?” “Who can I call for you?”
Gabby was “hurting and afraid.” Brian’s demeanor was consistently disconnected from the reality of his obviously heartbroken, sobbing girlfriend. He remained charming, cool and calculated. Why was his detached, manipulative behavior contrasted with hers not a red flag?? Why was she called “confused??”

He definitely had a phone because he pulled it out. And gabby had HER phone because she was separated in the cop car calling her parents. And no where in the cam footage did they take a phone and hand it between Brian and gabby. So he 100% was lying when he said he didn’t have a phone.

What is strange is the police to call out that he literally had pulled his phone out of his pocket a few moments before. Then he said he didn’t have a phone 🤔. Watching it back I immediately caught that. And gabby had her phone in the police car calling his parents. So the phone he pulls out in the cam footage would have to be his phone. Plus now the fbi have stated they have BOTH of their phone data. So he clearly had a phone. Not to mention in her photo in the van with the terrain that doesn’t look like the arch’s she’s clearly taking a photo likely with her phone…and in front of her hunched over is Brian’s back and he’s either reading or likely on his phone.

    • @ShadesOfKassie

I personally don’t think it was premeditated. I think he 100% murdered the newly wed couple while they were separated. Gabby found out or he told her. They fought and he killed her as well. His parents 100% know about it. I think they haven’t released cause of death yet because my personal thought is that it was gunshot and then would likely tie all 3 murders. The fact his family has now hired Casey Anthony’s attorney makes me even more suspicious that he is guilty of the 3 murders and not just Gabby.

Those officers could only do their best with the information they had at the time. Hindsight is always 20/20. They had no way of know that she would have been the one who wound up dead. When they pulled them over, Brian was the one with the scratches and marks on his face and body, and Gabbie was the one saying it was all her own fault, while police also spoke to a witness that said it looked like she was the primary aggressor. Both Gabbie’s and Brian’s stories were relatively the same. What are they supposed to do or think in that situation. The officers even said in the body cam footage that they have to treat it the same as if it was a woman with the marks all over her face and body, superficial or not. They had no way of knowing what truly happened as the officers were not there, only Brian and Gabbie know what truly took place behind closed doors, so they have to try and piece things together the best they can. What we know now gives us a clearer picture of what was really going on in their relationship, but the officers didn’t have any of that information yet. There is no way they could have predicted this. After watching the full body cam footage, I actually felt the officers handled things as well as they could with what was presented to them, and they seemed like they genuinely cared and tried to do their best to mitigate the situation.

@@BhappyD My main criticism of the police is that in their discussion at the road side they don’t seem to mention the possibility of the scratches being as a result of self defence. The witness said they saw HIM slapping/hitting HER, but the police appear to forget that-at least in the footage presented here.
I understand that they can only take their word for what happened, and I agree that we’ll never know the full story, but again, they don’t consider that Gabby may be lying to protect her abuser, which is incredibly common in situations of domestic abuse. They could have simply separated them without using “victim” and “primary aggressor” mentalities. Even with the info they had, it didn’t seem that clear cut.
They also don’t seem to consider that the van was swerving because he was using one arm to do something to her, and her taking the blame because she’d been told to do that by him. Either directly or indirectly E.g. “Why do you make me hit you? I hit you because you make me angry. It’s your fault I hit you.”
I’m sure this is just a result of poor training when it comes to domestic abuse and the way victims act in those relationships, but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating to watch. The fact Brian says he has no phone, pulls one out, and the police don’t notice/question that, suggests they weren’t completely on the ball here.
The officers never seriously considered this a potential DA situation, just characterised the woman as having a “mental health crisis”. That is worrying for many.
However, I don’t believe they could have necessarily done anything to stop the end result as you can’t force people to stay apart if they insist on being together, but I do hope going forward that these officers try to be more open minded.
At least the female National Park Service ranger told Gabby her relationship with Brian had the markings of a toxic one. The other officers should take notes from her on that.

I used to live with an exs parents who hit me and when I finally left him and reported him for DV they denied everything and painted me as the aggressor. Given he nearly killed me when I left it was very difficult to deny it, but they still tried. Speaking from personal experience, when a narcissist has driven a partner to a breaking point, the narcissist will remain calm, cool and collected while the victim is a an utter mess and blaming themselves for not doing whatever was necessary to meet the narcissist's demands. The narcissist relishes being in control of the victim's mental destruction. Not saying that is definitely the case here, just that the difference in demeanor between them looks VERY familiar.

Reckless driving can be a form of emotional abuse - it can be used as manipulation and a way to enforce control over the other person and the situation. It’s a potential fear tactic. I don’t like hearing how reckless he was being when driving while she was clearly in distress.

The culture surrounding women always being seen as the “crazy” one in the relationship is so disrespectful. Brian played it off as yet another crazy female. It’s no wonder Gabbie was so upset and distraught in the situation because she probably felt that she wasn’t being taken seriously and was so frustrated, rightfully so.

    • @alexrose8299
      @alexrose8299 3 года назад +2

If you watch the footage in its entirety, there was a great deal of confusion. Some people were actually saying the cops were on her side because she was a female. In the video, the officers say the witness accused her of hitting him and he said he pushed her away to defend himself. She admitted to hitting him and the reason was because she wanted him to stop telling her to calm down. In all honesty, the entire situation was messed up. I wish that confusion never happened in regards to the witness

The officers should of taken her into protective custody. Gabby was petrified and seemed to be more concerned with ensuring he was not arrested. She lied for him. They should of also contacted her parents immediately.
He got more angry and aggressive after the police left resulting in the demise of Gabby.
His parents and sister is WELL AWARE what he did to Gabby.
The police asked her leading questions and failed to properly identify how terrified she was. They seemed more concerned with ensuring Brian was okay.
May her soul journey in peace. May her family be comforted and attain justice by any means necessary.
