Thanks for the info. I've been a painter for 20 years but I only started using a sprayer around a year ago. I decided in Oct. of 2021 that I was tired of making other people money and ventured out into starting my own business. I didn't have a lot of money so I bought a Avanti Airless Paint, Primer & Stain Sprayer from Harbor Freight ($250.00). That being said, I wonder if you have ever used one? So far, so good. One thing I can say is it's much different working for a established company then doing it myself. It's all been a learning process. Watching your videos has help me, so I appreciate what you're doing. And I like that in a lot of your videos you put up a scripture. Praise the Lord brother..

I found out im a team player in Novemeber 2021, but only as a coach.. that being said, I too started my own business.. the Avanti is underrated. it works very well with smaller projects, though I still recommend back rolling/back brushing. Good luck to you! and never ever give up! tough days will come.. but drunk some water and push through them!

Depending on the size of the job and the manufacturer of paint, I tend to get a new tip for every time I start a new job.... I will use the older tips as priming tips till they start hissing.
I factor it in to my bid,( painting supplies)

A good topic to know how long a spray paint tip can develop its best which is a very meticulous detail and very important but most of us didn’t dig it enough so I’m a general contractor I mean don’t do like you lots of paint but overspray was always my problem. Thank you so much to bring this into the table and share with us. Cheers

Very clear and informative. This guy is the best. I’m not sure if you are compensated by any major brands but you should be. I purchased my Titan 440 based on considering a couple hours of your videos. Now, I’m about to go buy some new tips too. Plus I refer to your content before I purchase any paint related product.

I wish my boss was as diligent as you are. We are a well reputed company and we paint the governors mansion in MI among other big accounts, our mission statement is to be the best painting provider (go figure), but it’s incredibly frustrating when they want to be cheap. Our sprayers and lines look like they’ve never been cleaned, there’s no reason why they couldn’t get new equipment every few jobs by just putting the cost in the bid. Instead we have to work with old tips, old spray lines with tears in them. I complained to my boss that one of our sprayers was not in good condition, and I don’t want to be around it when it blows. He just wrote it off, the outer cover was torn on the line in multiple places and his attitude was “it’s just the outer cover”. That’s like saying my airplane just has some cosmetic damage, well I don’t want to fly the airplane until its fixed. You’re supposed to keep the lines clean and stored tidily, but that is a far cry from what we do. It’s disappointing and frustrating. Lo and behold that same sprayer that I brought to their attention had the line blow a few weeks later. Needless to say I feel vindicated and I did my job bringing it back to the shop, but these complacent mfers took it back out to a job site for use, thank god nobody got hurt and there wasn’t major property damage or paint to clean up but it pisses me off.

My tips last indefinitely. lol That is surprising a 515 tip is effectively a 517 after just 20 gallons.

Need to grab one of those PaintLifeTV hats from the store. Sizing question: do they work out for XL heads? Speaking of sizes, what are your favorite tip sizes for interior work with an airless? If I'm correct, you appear to use a 6" or 10" a lot.

Flat paints and cheaper lines of paint seem to wear them out quicker. Using Trim and Exterior paint you'll get more out of them. You can definitely hear a shot tip compared with a brand new one.

Geeze, I’ve sprayed 500 gallons through tips with no issues. I don’t change them out until the pattern starts to get lines on the end. I mask everything anyway so overspray is not a concern for me. On Exteriors, who cares about overspray?

    • @AlexKunstar

I guess me and you are both doing it wrong lol.. I use the crap out of my tips, especially the fflp tips that I run at as low pressure as I can. I control overspray and clean the tips out thoroughly after I neglect them, and they bounce back just fine. I guess I saved about a grand on new tips over the years lol... I'm not saying there's nothing to this video, but swapping every 30 to 80gallons seems absurd to me. (been spraying for 20years now)

What is your experience with flat tip setups. An old painter swears by flat tips .he said they are 1/3 the price and to just keep extra cone screens in your pocket and throw clogged ones in bucket of water.

I would go as low as possible, 308fflp graco (maybe even 208 on the edges, you should have these two tip sizes as a requirement for any fine finish work), or the 306tritech tip if you want to invest in one with the guard.

Have you made a video on paint shelf life? I we had bought some paint around Sept last year starting using now mixed it really good 5 to 10 minutes and my mesh filter in my gun was so clogged with like dry paint

    • @AlexKunstar

Mix it with a drill and the newer yellow plasic drill attachment, and the run it through a strainer. It'll do a better job than any shaker could ever hope to do. As long as the latex paint wasn't allowed to freeze, and it was stored/sealed properly, it will last many years even if it looks like a separated mess.

Tri-tech tips last longer and are cheaper. Tri-tech sprayers are way way way better then Graco. I would buy a used Tri-tech of a new Graco any time any place.
