DT466e - WARNING! Aftermarket IPR not so good. 1998 International 4700

    Weird surging at idle and hard to rev and DTC 331+.333 WARN light on. Replaced ICP Sensor - same surging. Replaced eBay IPR with original IPR - FIXED! No dash lights and idles and revs great!

    Bought the truck with a stated "electrical issue".
    After tracing everything including swapping ECMs and a new rebuilt IDM, still no start.
    Replaced all the sensors even though no codes - still no start.
    Replaced the IPR - still no start.
    Replaced the chunked-out primer ball on the fuel filter housing - still no start.
    47psi fuel pressure (at fuel filter) during cranking.
    50psi oil pressure at LPOP.
    So I removed the HPOP and took it apart. NO FERRY PLUG BALL! It was gone! I really didn't think this would cause a complete NO-START issue. Replaced the .25" ball with part 1833830C1, re-installed the HPOP and it started after a few seconds of cranking! Wow.
    Now I have a 331 and 333 DTC (IPR too high and too low) as stored codes so I'll install the original IPR if those codes come back.
    Now to tackle a leak at the fuel rail gasket.
    But it RUNS! Finally! ;-p

    I thank God that you made this video this morning before the guys got to the shop changed IPR valve hoping to eliminate code start truck on ether but had no power ran like absolute s*** glad I saw this before I ripped my hair out of my head what original valve back in and just replaced coil and now it is okay apparently these eBay valves just don't work

    My 2000 4700 with the dt466e is going to need some attention soon. Even with that, I'm getting 11 to 14 mpg with it. When you look at it, I'm pleased with it a truck weighing 13,620 lbs empty and my former f250 would barely get 11 mpg, and it weighed 6800 lbs empty.

    If the RPMs and other gages don't work it's the main board on the cluster that needs extra soldering. I had the same problem.

    I have had that same problem with a 230$ carquest ipr value did the same thing you did and fixed my problem as well I tried 3 different new ipr and had the same problem with all 3 I don’t understand why or how it works like that

    My 2001 dt466 started shutting off after 1 min of running when cold out. runs good once warmed up… so I have to start the truck and rev right away. What can it be

    How did you know your ferry plug ball was bad? Having similar issues on a 99 dt446e with crank no start thanks

      Have you checked the crank sensor?

      Unfortunately I found out by eliminating everything else. Finally pulled the HPOP off the truck and when I pulled the ferry plug, there was no check ball in there!

    So I’ve got a 99 international sale motor as you fuel pressure while running is about 50 psi truck starts fine but seems to be once at operating temps goes into limp mode code it threw was some to do with fuel pressure below/above desired rate or something like that. Any pointer? It’s the bsckup tow truck which is needed it runs fine all power when cold but once warmed up will go into a limp mode has lack of power

    I have the same truck that I bought not running but got it running again yesterday. My issue is how do you get the codes on this? It runs ok but I would love to know where the codes would be and how to read them.

      If you don't have a scan tool, the dash light flashes the codes for you.

    What scan tool are you using to view the codes?

      I have a generic scantool for the medium duty trucks. But you don't need a scanner with these. The engine light blinks out the 3-digit codes.

      ​@@ridercrossing3789hie please may you help I've 2002 international dt466 engine..it's crank but no start..this problem starts when replacing front crank seal after that when I tried to kick only kick for a second then cut itself off..I've tried to replace cam sensor and clean up ipr Al's check sensor including icp but nothing come out may you help please
