- Bought a 94 Subaru Sambar Van that has an Akabou upgrade to the head. It makes it a bit faster. The van also has rotating front seats along with the super charging, AWD, moon roof, and power steering & windows. I love driving it!
One thing everybody's gotta remember that those old cars. They don't want to sell you. No parts for them because they want you to buy new cars

This would be a great little cheap and cheap to keep people mover and grocery getter. Pull out the back seats and it's a great little light delivery vehicle (florist, car parts, office supplies, etc.) or a great little trade van for a plumber, chimney sweep or home inspector. Add a 2" lift and mud tires and it'd be an awesome little mini RV.

Is there any information online about this akabou mod? Is it just the valve cover?
The Akabo engine is a complete drivetrain upgrade. Better valves, springs, piston, crank. It doesn't make the car any faster but it's designed to last twice as long as the standard engine. The only way to truly know if an engine is an Akabo one to get a VIN check out of Japan as anyone can paint a valve cover red. If you look it up, I think there's a translated article about it on Wikipedia. The engine was designed as an option for the Akabo delivery co-op in Japan (people could use their vans and deliver part time) so the engine was designed to take more wear and tear.

Probably better to go with an nv200 or First gen transit connect. They have more room and better MPG
Can you really get this on the highway? How would it do on snowy mountains?
It actually does great in the snow, I called the great equalizer cuz I can start passing people

Yeah I sold it maybe 2 years ago. The guy who bought It wrapped it and it looks great! The good news is it's staying in Colorado.

Yes I'm pretty sure they can. Australian import rules for cars was updated and I think you can import them now.

I imported this one myself but now I've been using beForward.jp and theImportGuys.com I was spending too much time to do it myself so it was worth it to hire people to do it for me.

Is anyone having any issues importing these in 2021? Cause my sambar Dias has been held at the port for over two weeks now.
Mine have been clearing pretty good so far. Just got one cleared about a week ago via the port of Tacoma

When u are ready to sell it, can u ship to the UK?
If you're interested in importing a japanese vehicle into the UK that's more than 10 years old, that'll be a lot cheaper for you than importing a vehicle that's less than 10 years old, when considering the UK's taxes and charges. For me, importing a 5 year old sambar cost me about £2000.
