This one goes SO hard, SO fast. The first 5 episodes, could've been a DOPE movie if cut to 2.5 hours. But it's AHS and we're only halfway through so we need more. And more answers to questions we never had. Time jumps and poor writing choices just made it so clunky and that clunk spills over into the first half. I'd be just fine thinking Rita's just a psycho. I don't really need to know her character motivations. I don't need to know Margaret's.

Pacing weirdness aside, I like that the first few episodes are a long slasher movie and then the rest answers the question of, now what? What happened to the survivor? What happened to the property now that it has a grisly history? And there's the question of why did this happen? What events happened years and years ago to set up these dominoes? A big part of my love for this season is getting to watch Cody Fern being pretty, but I think Emma Robert's works best when she's allowed to be bitchy and slightly evil. Innocent final girl just doesn't do it for me But I really could have gone without their try-hard sexy night stalker plot. Just make up another serial killer, you don't have to use a real person who also killed real people. It just feels gross.
I mean, their thing was putting real influences in the plots, like in freak show that two faced guy the summoned. He actually killed ppl. Roanoke too, and a bunch a shit. Including them adds to the feel of "this could happen"

I loved how they played with slasher tropes like Brooke being such a stereotypical final girl at first, and the first half of the season was so incredibly fun...but then the second half happened :( and also why do we keep making fictionalized versions of serial killers
This was the only season of ahs that I could convince my mom to watch with me because she loves slashers so I really liked that I was able to watch and enjoy it with her and we had a blast

Second that :) This was the first season recap I watched without having seen the season, so I had a harder time keeping up and telling the characters apart. It might even be helpful to have the names on the board, but don't know if that would spoil the look. Now I just went to the wiki to remember who was who, and really enjoyed the recap regardless :D

ugh i have been waiting for this! to me, 1984 really made me love ahs like i used to, even though it has a very different sort of feel to it. i loved emma roberts as the main character and leslie grossman is an absolute QUEEN in this season. laughed so much at her absurdities. congrats on the wonderful work that ur doing with this series, ur always amazing. love from brasillllllll
Watching this season w my ma was crazyyy, she grew up around East LA around the time !😵💫Her and her friends have their own experiences with Richard Ramirez, from seein him down the street to him bein at a window !!!🥴 She said the best scene was when he got his ass beat when caught in Boyle Heights !! "Spot on n most accurate" part of the show, prob a fav of mine too just cause its so cathartic 😭
I feel like this season would’ve been better off if they stuck to one or two (*original*) serial killer villains or something I feel like trying to shoehorn Richard Ramirez into the story fucked over a lot (even the already established Richard Ramirez from hotel, where he literally says that he dies at a different time and is obviously a ghost able to enter the hotel) If his character was just an original character (or a copycat if you really want that connection to the nightstalker I guess) and just a horny loser serial killer that whole storyline would’ve been better in my opinion If they just stuck to Benjamin being a scapegoat without being that intertwined with Richard (they could’ve kept his tragic “doing good and happy with life before his family is murdered and he has to complete unfinished business” thing without Ramirez-) I do like parts of Richard’s part in the story? Like I find (detached from the fact that he’s based on a real person) the idea of a loser serial killer getting involved and used in a psychosexual relationship pretty funny, I think his ending of being trapped in a constant loop of waking up and being brutally murdered by everyone he fucked over is cool and interesting and fun- but some of it is just bad or boring or pointless- or could’ve been replaced with another character or a one off thing? The main issue with this season is that it’s trying to do 20 things at once
The last half was 100% shoved in there. They should’ve let the night drag on! Give us some mystery. Drop the hints of people being dead and give us a reveal later! (Example: girlie sees person die, tells the rest of the gang, body is gone and dude is back, confused what the fuzz is about, making girlie think she’s crazy. Hell, we know people don’t remember dying so keep hiding the bodies only to find out just as they’re leaving that everyone is dead and that they have to protect the kids and stop them from showing up, or murder the murderer because they can’t save themselves anymore. Another idea: LET THE MURDERER BE PART OF THE GROUP, MANIPULATING THE GHOSTS Sidenote: Ramirez was so unnecessary, it’s like the opposite of chekhov’s gun You don’t have to do the kitchen sink, please do not, dear mr Murphy
I think the recurring issue with AHS is that their storylines should be done within 5-6 episodes consistently.They write a tight storyline and then have to stretch it out which ends up making the seasons/endings lackluster. I think the American Horror stories are much better since they're way more standalone. I'd be interested in seeing a couple episodes with commentary/opinions on those episodes too when you have time.

While I am a fan of Emma Roberts, it's true that she doesn't really hold up when playing characters like Brooke or Anna Victoria. It's not like she's doing a bad role playing more tame and kinda nice people but she is really more or less a one trick pony when it comes to characters that suit her very well. I absolutely love 1984, and for a 9 episode season it wraps up everything pretty well, the ending gives me the feels lol. Glad Emma survived a season haha.
hotel was brilliant bringing in all those serial killers! it was the hotel cortez. a literal hellmouth. you never know who you’ll bump into kind of thing. i think it worked well.
Considering all of the seasons that have followed it so far, I feel like this was the last season of AHS of its kind. Maybe it was because of the break they were forced to take during the pandemic, but it just feels like the last bit of momentum AHS had was gone by the time the show had returned in 2021. Sure, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson came back in season 10, but once they proved that the show could do well without them, they should have continued down that road and maybe not invited them back so quickly. Idk, I could talk about it all day. But I’ve been a fan since the first day the trailers for season one started airing - and I still watch the show. I love it in spite of its imperfections, but there’s definitely a huge drop-off after this season, in my opinion.
The 80's references and slasher easter eggs were nice, I just didn't like the main characters that got the bulk of screen time. Also some reveals were unnecessary...
do you think you could start adding some kind of visual indications to the board when characters die? i get that it's kind of hard with the way that life and death work on thsi show but I think the amount of deaths that happen every season would be more impactful if they were also visually represented edit: love your recaps by the way and love your vibe so much

I can only describe trying to follow this plot as "feeling like the worst and deepest of K-holes"... You did a great job making it as clear as possible, but jeez did the writers really make it waaaay harder than necessary to follow this runaway plotline....
Ryan and his writters are really GOOD coming up with scenarios and ideas. The biggest issue is execution. They have no clue what to do past episode 2 or 3 of any season. I think that AHS needs to end because it's getting as bad as TWD, who refused to die even tho no one was watching it. Also I really didn't mind Emma Robert's acting. We have to remember: she's been typecasted for the last 20 years with, pretty much, the same characters. If she wanna improve her game she has to do something else than bitchy teenager
i would disagree with your second point. Ryan and co. CAN write a great story with engaging characters. just look at earlier seasons and the AHS renaissance happening in the last few years. i mean, minus Death Valley. they can and have been able to do it. it’s really only seasons like hotel, roanoke, and apocalypse that have really fizzled out by the end. edit: and ofc 1984 feels boring by the end too

I thought I watched and commented on this video, but I don't see my comments and it doesn't sound familiar- so I must have made that up. I wasn't terribly fond of this season. I wasn't really sure what to expect going into it. A few years later I now understand that the elements of it that I didn't care for would be considered "camp," and I've developed a much more neutral opinion on it since then, it just didn't really work for me. There's literally so much going on in this season, it was unbelievable in a way that just overwhelmed my enjoyment. This recap was more entertaining lmao.

well it’s definitely not the worst by any means. but ryan murphy is notorious for his troubled productions and on set drama. Glee, AHS, and Scream Queens are all very well known to have been horrible productions. From what i’ve heard Emma reached out to apologize, however i’m not entirely sure if Angelica actually accepted it. I feel for Angelica and it’s unfortunate that this was her experience in hollywood, especially since she was great in her roles. She could’ve continued to go very far in television and movies had things not been awful for her. Also Emma of course won’t see much controversy over it because she’s a nepo baby :/

This is one that I really enjoyed (with some exceptions... like that they included specifically Richard Ramirez) Did the ghosts feel like ghosts? Not really. And there was definitely some weak moments. But the entire thing was just so camp (no pun intended) I could not help loving it. One of the few ones I'm probably going to rewatch a few times
Asylum, 1984, Roanoke, Cult, and Freakshow all exist in a different universe than Hotel, Murderhouse, Coven, and Apocalypse. Both of the universes have various contradictions that prove that. Hotel features both the Zodiac killer and Richard Ramirez at Devils Night. In the asylum universe, the Zodiac is confirmed to have been the SCUM cult and Richard Ramirez was trapped at Camp Redwood. The only “connections” between the two universes are the Piggy Man (which both Piggy Men are entirely separate characters) and Scathach being a witch in Roanoke. There used to be a distinct tonal difference between the two universes because Asylum, Roanoke, Freakshow, and Cult are all far more scarier and “real” than something like Murderhouse or Coven but 1984 kinda kicked that distinction aside.
Great stuff! But we can’t see the timeline or the smaller pictures, so just get rid of the timeline since you are already telling us what’s happening and make all the pictures bigger. I think that would help!
@@cainvarner I can definitely hear an argument for NYC, I loved that season as well. I just think Red Tide had so much potential but it was completely wasted by the “archs” and the rushed ending. Lily Rabe’s character was done so dirty and the ending really left a bad taste in my mouth. Love your vids keep up the great work 🙏🏼
About the only thing exciting about this season for me was the fact it felt very different than the rest. Like you said it was fresh and different . But that doesn’t mean it was all that good. And for me I think a big reason I feel that way is just because I really don’t like Emma Robert’s.
The highlight of these videos has been your sarcastic “Hmm mmm” while nodding your head at some of the absurd stories. 😅 I do also agree that Coven is about the only season that did real people as characters well. I despised “Anne Frank” in Asylum just because of how bad taste it was (though to be fair, was that ever confirmed to actually be Anne Frank, or just someone that was in Auschwitz with her that took on her personality?). The actual episodes “I am Anne Frank 1/2” was awesome outside the character herself. Needless to say, some of the depictions are just gross, and Richard (multiple versions) shows a weird obsession Murphy has with him. Then add in all the demonic nonsense, right after we got an ENTIRE SEASON of that with Apocalypse (with a way better actor) was just stupid.

ugh i have been waiting for this! to me, 1984 really made me love ahs like i used to, even though it has a very different sort of feel to it. i loved emma roberts as the main character and leslie grossman is an absolute QUEEN in this season. laughed so much at her absurdities. congrats on the wonderful work that ur doing with this series, ur always amazing. love from brasillllllll

Watching this season w my ma was crazyyy, she grew up around East LA around the time !😵💫Her and her friends have their own experiences with Richard Ramirez, from seein him down the street to him bein at a window !!!🥴 She said the best scene was when he got his ass beat when caught in Boyle Heights !! "Spot on n most accurate" part of the show, prob a fav of mine too just cause its so cathartic 😭

I feel like trying to shoehorn Richard Ramirez into the story fucked over a lot (even the already established Richard Ramirez from hotel, where he literally says that he dies at a different time and is obviously a ghost able to enter the hotel)
If his character was just an original character (or a copycat if you really want that connection to the nightstalker I guess) and just a horny loser serial killer that whole storyline would’ve been better in my opinion
If they just stuck to Benjamin being a scapegoat without being that intertwined with Richard (they could’ve kept his tragic “doing good and happy with life before his family is murdered and he has to complete unfinished business” thing without Ramirez-)
I do like parts of Richard’s part in the story? Like I find (detached from the fact that he’s based on a real person) the idea of a loser serial killer getting involved and used in a psychosexual relationship pretty funny, I think his ending of being trapped in a constant loop of waking up and being brutally murdered by everyone he fucked over is cool and interesting and fun- but some of it is just bad or boring or pointless- or could’ve been replaced with another character or a one off thing?
The main issue with this season is that it’s trying to do 20 things at once

The last half was 100% shoved in there. They should’ve let the night drag on! Give us some mystery. Drop the hints of people being dead and give us a reveal later! (Example: girlie sees person die, tells the rest of the gang, body is gone and dude is back, confused what the fuzz is about, making girlie think she’s crazy. Hell, we know people don’t remember dying so keep hiding the bodies only to find out just as they’re leaving that everyone is dead and that they have to protect the kids and stop them from showing up, or murder the murderer because they can’t save themselves anymore. Another idea: LET THE MURDERER BE PART OF THE GROUP, MANIPULATING THE GHOSTS

I think the recurring issue with AHS is that their storylines should be done within 5-6 episodes consistently.They write a tight storyline and then have to stretch it out which ends up making the seasons/endings lackluster. I think the American Horror stories are much better since they're way more standalone. I'd be interested in seeing a couple episodes with commentary/opinions on those episodes too when you have time.

While I am a fan of Emma Roberts, it's true that she doesn't really hold up when playing characters like Brooke or Anna Victoria. It's not like she's doing a bad role playing more tame and kinda nice people but she is really more or less a one trick pony when it comes to characters that suit her very well. hotel was brilliant bringing in all those serial killers! it was the hotel cortez. a literal hellmouth. you never know who you’ll bump into kind of thing. i think it worked well.

Considering all of the seasons that have followed it so far, I feel like this was the last season of AHS of its kind. Maybe it was because of the break they were forced to take during the pandemic, but it just feels like the last bit of momentum AHS had was gone by the time the show had returned in 2021.
Sure, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson came back in season 10, but once they proved that the show could do well without them, they should have continued down that road and maybe not invited them back so quickly.
Idk, I could talk about it all day. But I’ve been a fan since the first day the trailers for season one started airing - and I still watch the show. I love it in spite of its imperfections, but there’s definitely a huge drop-off after this season, in my opinion.
I loved Leslie Jordan, as an actor. The man was adorable and incredible.
The 80's references and slasher easter eggs were nice, I just didn't like the main characters that got the bulk of screen time. Also some reveals were unnecessary...
Ryan Murphy grosses me out. He has a weird obsession with serial killers. He treats them like rockstars and sex symbols.
do you think you could start adding some kind of visual indications to the board when characters die? i get that it's kind of hard with the way that life and death work on thsi show but I think the amount of deaths that happen every season would be more impactful if they were also visually represented

I can only describe trying to follow this plot as "feeling like the worst and deepest of K-holes"... You did a great job making it as clear as possible, but jeez did the writers really make it waaaay harder than necessary to follow this runaway plotline....
1984 was one i just couldn't get into. I tried to watch it but i lost interest in AHS after Apocalypse.

The biggest issue is execution. They have no clue what to do past episode 2 or 3 of any season.
I think that AHS needs to end because it's getting as bad as TWD, who refused to die even tho no one was watching it.
Also I really didn't mind Emma Robert's acting. We have to remember: she's been typecasted for the last 20 years with, pretty much, the same characters. If she wanna improve her game she has to do something else than bitchy teenager
i would disagree with your second point. Ryan and co. CAN write a great story with engaging characters. just look at earlier seasons and the AHS renaissance happening in the last few years. i mean, minus Death Valley. they can and have been able to do it. it’s really only seasons like hotel, roanoke, and apocalypse that have really fizzled out by the end.

Richard Ramirez being a literal main boy with a “bad boy” attitude and somewhat redeemable makes me want to hurl. I hate it. It would’ve been so easy to make a character LIKE or BASED ON Ramirez, like they did in Asylum, but they had to be assholes
I thought I watched and commented on this video, but I don't see my comments and it doesn't sound familiar- so I must have made that up.
I wasn't terribly fond of this season. I wasn't really sure what to expect going into it. A few years later I now understand that the elements of it that I didn't care for would be considered "camp," and I've developed a much more neutral opinion on it since then, it just didn't really work for me. There's literally so much going on in this season, it was unbelievable in a way that just overwhelmed my enjoyment. This recap was more entertaining lmao.

according to angelica ross miss roberts refused to let the makeup artists age her too much, also miss roberts was transphobic to angelica AND miss roberts was apparently running the show whilst ryan murphy wasn’t there
well it’s definitely not the worst by any means. but ryan murphy is notorious for his troubled productions and on set drama. Glee, AHS, and Scream Queens are all very well known to have been horrible productions. From what i’ve heard Emma reached out to apologize, however i’m not entirely sure if Angelica actually accepted it. I feel for Angelica and it’s unfortunate that this was her experience in hollywood, especially since she was great in her roles. She could’ve continued to go very far in television and movies had things not been awful for her. Also Emma of course won’t see much controversy over it because she’s a nepo baby :/

Did the ghosts feel like ghosts? Not really. And there was definitely some weak moments. But the entire thing was just so camp (no pun intended) I could not help loving it. One of the few ones I'm probably going to rewatch a few times

Asylum, 1984, Roanoke, Cult, and Freakshow all exist in a different universe than Hotel, Murderhouse, Coven, and Apocalypse. Both of the universes have various contradictions that prove that. Hotel features both the Zodiac killer and Richard Ramirez at Devils Night. In the asylum universe, the Zodiac is confirmed to have been the SCUM cult and Richard Ramirez was trapped at Camp Redwood. The only “connections” between the two universes are the Piggy Man (which both Piggy Men are entirely separate characters) and Scathach being a witch in Roanoke. There used to be a distinct tonal difference between the two universes because Asylum, Roanoke, Freakshow, and Cult are all far more scarier and “real” than something like Murderhouse or Coven but 1984 kinda kicked that distinction aside.

@@cainvarner I can definitely hear an argument for NYC, I loved that season as well. I just think Red Tide had so much potential but it was completely wasted by the “archs” and the rushed ending. Lily Rabe’s character was done so dirty and the ending really left a bad taste in my mouth. Love your vids keep up the great work 🙏🏼

this season felt like a movie of a 1984 slasher film and I LOVED ITTT
About the only thing exciting about this season for me was the fact it felt very different than the rest. Like you said it was fresh and different . But that doesn’t mean it was all that good. And for me I think a big reason I feel that way is just because I really don’t like Emma Robert’s.

I do also agree that Coven is about the only season that did real people as characters well. I despised “Anne Frank” in Asylum just because of how bad taste it was (though to be fair, was that ever confirmed to actually be Anne Frank, or just someone that was in Auschwitz with her that took on her personality?). The actual episodes “I am Anne Frank 1/2” was awesome outside the character herself. Needless to say, some of the depictions are just gross, and Richard (multiple versions) shows a weird obsession Murphy has with him. Then add in all the demonic nonsense, right after we got an ENTIRE SEASON of that with Apocalypse (with a way better actor) was just stupid.
