@@AnthonyOrtega-ki4mx indeed. It is quite a high end machine with cool features such as custom painting! A friend of mine got one of their FS and loved it.
I bought a lightly used S-Works Epic ht (2019). It has alloy wheels and stock cockpit. 8.7kg with pedals and cages xD. I dont know how. It is race ready (2.25 knobby tires) and far away from weight weenie.
Just to let you know, if you slap on a pair of 300g xtr pedals on the S works epic with the parts that come with the $12k you parted with, it's barely under 9kg. Nowhere near the 7.8kg claimed.
While it may not be the lightest hardtail out there, the Specialized Chisel is a great option for those looking to get around the 11 kg mark without spending a fortune
I am on my 2nd Giant XTC Advanced. It's hard to mention on any list because their value and quality is better than the rest. I'd buy another Giant carbon bike in a heartbeat.
Have you noticed how many smaller brands such Unno and Megamo are kind of trying to make XC HT nikes that look like a Scott Scale? Megamo even got the geo pretty much the same as Scott.
Put the Specialized full build on a scale on video and lets see if its really 7.8 kg. Maybe it actuallly is. Scales don't lie but companies exaggerate. hehe
8.6kg without pedals for the Jealous, imagine what a modern bike would weigh in shape of 26" and using light v-brakes(v-brakes are still very powerful). I mean I still remember back in the day when a popular MTB magazine here in Sweden wrote about the bike for the season and all the upgrades they did, the weights on those machines were incredible and that with steel frames/ti and alu frames. The lightest frame they had was an 1.3kg alu frame yet they were at 8kg mark back then.
I have a 1995 Straight tube Ti. Nuke proof, 26" wheels, 3" travel Rock Shox Duke air fork (the heavy part of the bike) with the V-brakes, (Yes, very strong, with the cable end slot in the lever for the XTR and XT versions.) and it is just over 22lbs. The frame alone is just over 3lbs. 8kg is only 17.6 lbs, and I don't believe any bike racing the NORBA nationals in the states was that light back in the 90's, (or they would break). 22lbs was a very light, durable bike. I worked at the Michigan factory back then (Head machinist), and I got the light carbon hubs to stop breaking, (nothing but a tolerance/quality control issue).
This video kiss up to the extreme pricing of these lightweight frames.. consider you can no get a frame online form China that weighs about the same as a nearly empty water bottle in difference from some of these frames for a tenth of the price of some of these. With a huge amount of money saved you can afford to buy components that are the very lightest, and have a super competitive racing rig. I know, because thats what I did, building a full suspension xc rig that weighs in at 10.18 kilos which is very light for a full sus xc rig. And its taken me to the podium in xc races, and overall at a GRAVEL race, top 5 overall in another gravel raace, and numerous age group wins in XC as well as some top 3 finishes. Nowadays, this video being several years old, its easy to buy a durable Chinese hardtail frame and build a bike for 3500 to 4000 dollars that will be in the high 8kg weigh range, or lighter. IM currently working on won that will be about 8.6kg WITH pedals.
Hard tail head angles are really steeper than stated as once at sag the head angle steepens, your full suspension bikes sag at rear will mean you're running a true 67 angle, the hardtail will really be running 0.5-1 degree steeper on the trail
Nice, but way out of my league as far as price goes. I'll stick to my Nukeproof Scout. Not a light and flashy, but solid. And you don't cry when you break something. Mahalo and Aloha.
I have a 1995 Nuke proof 17" Ti frame hard tail at about 22lbs with a heavy Rock Shox Duke air Fork. I used to work there, and later the old boss worked for me. He sold the company to those young blokes in Europe, and they had no interest in buying the nostalgic bike (may be the most complete vintage NP bike in existence today). I was thinking about cutting it up with a band saw and sending it to them anyway, if they don't give a damn where they came from.
You guys never add ax-lightness to your top 5 lightweight hardtail list when they have had their Vial evo XC with a 6,92kg build for years, beating everybody by a long shot and ax designs and makes their own bikes !!
Saying a $5000 hardtail is good value just because it’s cheaper is a ridiculous statement and shows you support or are at least ignorant of the growing price without getting anything in return. A $5000 bike would have been a pro bike for elite sponsored athletes, now we’re just supposed to accept that $5000 is a budget/value bike. I really hate this industry.
$3000.00 was a top hard tail in the mid 90's. Our dollar is not worth nearly as much now as it was then. I bought mine making only $13.50/hr., and I still have it: 17" Ti frame Nuke Proof.
Unno isn't 100% in-house, they're only 90% being they don't make the carbon !! Giant's the only brand close to 100% in-house being that they also do hafe the carbon production in-house making them around a 95% in-house brand lol
What lightweight hardtail mountain bikes would make your top 5? Let us know in the comments!
BMC Twostroke
Cannondale F-Si
The Brazillian brand Edro top-spec HT (edrobikes.com/produto/summa/) is at 8.55kg with a dropper post and tubeless. Definitely a great choice for me!

out of the five here the radon is the one i really like the look of, not just what parts it has but visually, very nice bike
BMC Two Stroke 01 the best in price and quality!!!!

I dont believe in that,tbh
That’s true, mine is the same. Weight measured with an exact scale.
Carbon rims don't save that much weight. Aluminum is plenty good and way less expensive, especially to replace.
That Unno Aora seems an interesting rig!
now thats the content
This video is timely with gravel suspension becoming a thing, a lot of people on the gravel market will be like "screw it, I'll just get a hardtail.."
of course. In many countries if you venture on gravel you end up on large rocks. MTB is the only option.
Nice HTs 😍
Can you guys do a test of a fully rigid bike or two? Just to see how it works out in 2021.
I'll stick with my alloy Spesh Chisel. It goes like a spring; and if I drop it, chances are it won't be a right-off!
As opposed to a left-off?

What do you think about the entry-level Orbea Alma, Seems like a good value, and its only 12,5kg
tbh, 12.5kg for any carbon ht is heavy. they do look very nice though
if you want to go budget go for relyability and Performance, not weight if you dont wand to upgreade right away
