    I have been through all the finishes. I have found that chrome is timeless and a good way to go unless you have money to throw.

      So true, chrome fixtures are less expensive and never a wrong choice in any style bathroom. We love that there are more options today than ever. Mixing other finishes with chrome is a great look as well.

      I so agree! I just wouldn't put chrome with brushed nickel. I am getting ready to do an aging in place on suite. Would love to see some ideas.@@emileeandlora

      I am now spending so much time maintaining all these finishes. Chrome is much easier to maintain no doubts about that. Rose gold I find is the most difficult to maintain .

    INCORRECT! I live in South Texas (where it is still in the 70's right now) and I cannot WAIT to get a heated floor on my bathroom reno. I miss having them and let's face it, no one wants to get out of a shower to a cold floor. even in summer.

    The thing with tile is the horror of maintaining the grout. The tile can only look beautiful until the grout changes the look. The design will not work with the miles of grout becoming the “focus point” in the long run. I wish for more practical alternatives.

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  6 месяцев назад +10

      Thank you for your comment. Grout has come a long way - if mixed and installed correctly, epoxy grout won’t crack, stain, or shrink, making it an ideal solution for wet environments. If you want to avoid all grout lines entirely, thin format porcelain slabs is a great option - solid surface walls with no grout lines. Porcelain slabs are more expensive, they have to be fabricated and installed like countertops, but no maintenance and super easy to clean. A more affordable option to avoid grout lines is a prefabricated shower.

      Grout isnt an issue with the new stain resistant grout.

    • @stormnurse7
      @stormnurse7 4 месяца назад +2

      Grout sealant should solve the grout issue as well? There is spray and seal and it is easy and can be done more frequent as maintenance? Also between the tub and beginning of tile should be silicone. That area seems to get dirtier easier. I also keep scrubbing bubbles in the tub and spray when lm done with my shower.
      Just thoughts. My grout isn't a nightmare and l LOVE tile. Maybe this will be useful so you can too

    Thank you, Emilee & Lora! This is my first time here. My builder's electrician told me I didn't have enough room to put wall sconces on either side of my 36" vanity and that the one standard wall light centered above the vanity was their suggestion. With the examples put forth in this video, I am going to ask if he can add electrical junction boxes in the ceiling for owner-provided pendant lights on either side of the vanity mirror instead. Oh, and yes, I just liked and subscribed.

Could you do a video on 2024 kitchens on a budget? 😂 I believe you don’t have to have $ to have good taste, I just need to educate myself on what is a less expensive way to go and still have it look good.

      Thank you for your kind words!! We agree, you don't have to break the bank to design a beautiful kitchen. Choosing timeless styles and colors will help keep the cost down because trendy can cost more. This will also help the longevity of your investment, because stylistically it will not age as quickly. Currently, we are working on a few kitchen videos that address budget in more detail, so if you follow and turn on your bell you will be notified of these videos. @emileeandlora  Месяц назад

      Thank you for sharing! We are pleased to hear you found the video helpful. Pivot mirrors are great; you might have an issue finding very tall ones though. Things to know when using a pivot mirror - weight, make sure you have support in the wall for both side brackets; projection - the mirrors stand off the wall, so consider this for the faucet height and depth.

    I was able to purchase a part that retrofitted with my existing shower valve, so I could use a faucet from a different company. It worked really well. I wasn’t able to do that with my Roman tub faucet, so I just used a metallic spray paint to change the color of the spout and handles. • @emileeandlora

      Even though the technology and cleanability has gotten so much better, jetted tubs are not as popular as they once were, but not outdated if it's a new tub. Warning, manufacturers don't make a lot of stock, so wait times can be long for jetted tubs. In the last 15 yrs, and hundreds of tubs later, we have had only 2 clients request a jetted tub and they are thrilled with their decision. So, we feel it is more important for you to spend your money on the tub you want and enjoy every bath.

    Love this video….I do have a question, if you have one of those hall bath tubs where the plastic goes up the wall but not all the way to the ceiling, where would you place the tile? Above the tub wall and in front of the tub as shown in the video?

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  4 месяца назад

      That's great to hear, thanks! Good question! If we are understanding correctly, it sounds like you have a prefabricated one piece tub - walls and tub are fiberglass or similar. We will do our best to provide an example that might work for you. If you tile the rooms exposed walls, this fills in the drywall space above the tub and purposely continues onto adjoining walls for a clean tile design throughout. If you have the room for a pony tub wall, it will run into your newly tiled walls, so tile pattern layout will be important to marry tile surfaces properly. Hope you find this helpful!:)

    About to start a basement bath reno next month and this is right on time. Love the colors, choice of materials and rethinking our choices now. However, this is our first reno. Have a contractor that's very busy (which is good, I think) but have been put off several months because he's taken on other jobs. My husband and I are starting to feel overwhelmed and not as confident of our choices or contractor. We need to replace the prefab neo angle shower that was leaking but now want to update the bathroom. Any suggestions?

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  8 месяцев назад +1

      Oh good, happy to hear the timing was good for your upcoming reno!:) True, a contractor that is busy can be a good sign - like an unspoken referral. But, if he is taking on jobs after committing to you and before yours, that might be a sign to look for another contractor. You might be able to find a contractor in your area through NAHB. You can do this while waiting on him, so if you can't find someone, he is still committed.
      As far as being unsure about your selections, the easiest thing to do is find a bathroom you like the style and color of and match it. But remember, it should be cohesive to your homes style unless you are planning to change that someday as well. Sending our best your way and hope that everything works out for you!

    Smaller tiles - more grouts, more cleaning. Same applies to non flat tiles.

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  6 месяцев назад

      Thankfully today, there are grouts that are stain resistant and easier to keep clean. There are times were small tiles are architecturally important to a project. For instance, if we are working on a 1920's bungalow and the design plan is to stay true to the era and architecture of the home. We also like to use mosaic tiles to accent backsplashes or shower niches.

      @emileeandlora  4 месяца назад

      Thank you for sharing! We love to hear that our videos are helping people. It is not necessary to duplicate fixture finishes or use the same fixture throughout a floor or home. It is more important to keep the design style - modern, traditional, rustic, etc - cohesive to the homes architecture and/or interior design throughout the home, so each bathroom can have its own moment.

Don't forget to keep you countertop and backsplash in mind, so all surfaces pair up nicely.

    I have a question about towel hooks. A wet towel on drywall can't be good for the dry wall.

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  4 месяца назад

      Thank you for this great comment! The two most common ways to hang a towel in a bathroom is on towel bars or hooks and both place the towel up against the wall. If a bathroom is properly painted with "bathroom paint" that has anti-microbial additives that help resist - not completely prevent - mildew or mold, then you are fine with either hanging method. For years our industry used high gloss paints for bathrooms, because anti-microbial paints were not available. Today, you commonly see this is public bathrooms. We will definitely do an in depth video on paint in the future, thanks for the idea.

    Shower spa systems.should they be on the wall where you can open glass door to turn on or not?

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  6 месяцев назад

      Not sure we completely understand the question, but will do our best to answer. Whether a standard shower, shower system (multiple shower heads), or steam shower, having the on/off control (temp valve), is most convenient right inside the door whether the shower sprays are on same wall or another wall. A diverter (control sprays), is best located on the shower wall or close by. A smart shower system ran by touch pad can be placed between both door and shower wall for ease of control. Hope this was helpful!:)

    Tiled frontage of baths (tubs) has been a thing in Australia forever. Every house I have lived in has a built in bath with the same wall tiles down the side of the bath. There is less baths/tubs being built in now as most are opting for a free standing bath/tub. Shiny chrome still looks clean and crisp in a white bathroom and is still a classic. So no need to get tired of it to put in brass or black. People are overdoing it with making all their fixtures black and it’s just too much.

    Does the kitchen and bathroom have to match? Such as color faucet?

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  4 месяца назад +1

      Great question! No, you do not need the bathroom and kitchen faucets to be the same finish or exact faucet brand/suite. What is important is that stylistically all materials/finishes/colors are cohesive throughout the home; e.g. having a ultra modern kitchen but a traditional farmhouse bathroom in the same home would not be cohesive. However, you can take elements from both styles and properly marry them together - a rustic wood floor with modern cabinets. Hope this is helpful!

    What's your opinion about light floors in a light bathroom?

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  Месяц назад

      We often use light tile on bathroom floors and prefer porcelain over natural stone. Rectified tiles allow for smaller grout lines. We often use a shade or two darker grout since bathroom floor grout can discolor over time in the high traffic areas. Epoxy grout is moisture resistant and commonly recommended for bathrooms.

    Why is the term Master Bath being phased out?

    • @emileeandlora
      @emileeandlora  Месяц назад

      Thank you for asking this question. In hindsight, we would have referenced this differently and provided an explanation for the other names used today when referring to a master bedroom or master bathroom. The term master bedroom or master bathroom seems to be phasing out or changing among some companies and some professionals. For a while now, we have been noticing realtors, architects and designers using the names primary, principal or main when referring to and what is commonly known as the master bedroom or master bathroom. We don't know when or how this change started to evolve. According to South Florida Agent Magazine, Houston Association of Realtors and Chicago-based real estate firm @Properties announced they will stop using the term master and adopt a more neutral term like main or primary. Studies have shown that master is still the most commonly used label, however primary, principal and main are being used as well. Sharing this with our viewers was so when they hear or read master being referenced as primary, principal or main they will know they all are referencing the same space.

      @emileeandlora  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! Without seeing pictures of your mirror, hard to tell you whether it is dated or not. Also, does the existing framed mirror stylistically match the design style you are wanting? Framed mirrors are in and so are frameless mirrors for modern bathrooms. As for wall to wall, we are actually doing a cosmetic (refresh) remodel now, keeping the wall to wall mirror, but adding a painted trim that will match the painted vanity cabinet. So many design sales and options these days!:)
      Hopefully this information helps and we send you the best with your refresh remodel!

    The “Master bathroom” term is not “going out.” The owner(s) of the home is the “Master” regardless of the pronoun of their choice. They worked hard to pay the bills and deserve the fruits of their labor. Remember, the owner of the home could be one or more individuals.
