But basically the song Ghostbusters was a rip-off of a Huey Lewis song, I Want A New Drug.
There's a lot of really obscure movies on the scrolling lists like a GG Allin biopic I think one of the people in the writers room was a movie buff and having fun sticking random stuff a lot of people that weren't cinema fanatics would be familar with in the sketch
That is the one I remember after all these years. They could have done more stuff like that, but I guess it's a balance between movies people know and movies that are a hilariously bad match for that type of song.

This is such a masterful skit that I can't help but revisit. The set-up itself is hilarious without a doubt, but the details in this are absolutely exquisite. Like "*Ghostbusters not included" and his facial expressions. So many things tightly packed in this 2+ minute skit. Nothing short of a masterwork.
They also had 3 of pauly shore's movies as one line, Encino Man, Bio-Dome and Jury Duty. I like to think he just made a generic theme song for Pauly Shore and submitted it for all 3 movies.

Ray already had a vinyl soundtrack called 'Chartbusters' back in the 80s (though it does include Ghostbusters)......I've had it for years.....this isn't THAT genius of a sketch lol
It's sad that he's only remembered for that song when, long before Ghostbusters, he was regarded as one of the best session guitarists in the music industry. From R&B to rock and roll, he's played on a lot of recordings.
Yes, he was a one hit wonder, but there's a difference between having a successful career as a musician and pop stardom. A huge difference. Sometimes an accomplished side man will get that brief flirtation in the form of a rare hit. That's what happened here. Hell, plenty of accomplished players never even get that.
