I wish they would make a 16.5 inch barrel that is a tad thinner and loose a pound. Not too many wrol situations demand dropping 200 rounds in a massive barrel dumb. I love the gun but would prefer if it was a but lighter. Sickest gun around already though

I have sustained injury to my left wrist and back while deployed. Do you feel like the shorter barrel helped out, or do you think cutting it to 14.5 would be better overall?

Excellent and accurate review of dynamically what is probably the best AR10 style weapon out there. I concur that weight and general bulk together with being limited to HK's buttstock are the accepted downsides (and possibly price).
The HK Assaulter was a 12 inch barreled rifle. I made a SCAR 17 Assaulter model myself with an extra SCAR barrel cut by Dwilson Manufacturing. Love my SCAR Assaulter and have had no issues shooting 147 grain projectiles out to 200 yards at my gun club.

HK isnt sneaky. Remember when the Scar17 came out, and it was THE "brown" rifle to have? It was almost its trademark. It was iconic, alot of it, due to its (butt-ass ugly) color. HK comes out, in HK fashion, and does what the king of 7.62s does, but prettier. And better. Bravo HK. Petty AF, but bravo 👏
People gotta realize a 13 inch 308 is still puttin out close to 2k ftlbs and will reach out to 650yards/600ish meters....4x magnification should be more than enough for this...JMO
There are a lot of internet subject matter experts out there that feel like they know everything. I’m in favor of testing things out myself. These can reach out to about 7 with a crazy hold. It’s not super consistent but it’s doable

Read on to get alittle insight stats data numbers and background/purpose of the hk417-g27k-mr762 why it was a horrible concept, who adopted it ( which got the us’s attention), and what developed around its testing. this is a short barreled battle rifle(the idea of a dmr isn’t even in the picture for g27k), and the whole optics spiel was off since an elcan is a pig at 22.3 ounces and interesting enough an eotec combo is 22.3 ounces as well, and 11oz without mag…while an lpvo like the military triji accupoint is 12 ounces about the same as just the eotech and most modern lpvos ranking 18-22 ounces about the weight of a combo… then when it comes to armor pen the 308 isn’t even pen. A level 3 plate, while m855 is own 3+ and m855a1 is pen. All the way to level 4. It’s not giving anything your ar 15 30 Cala cant. I beleive crane and nswnavy guys was mostly likely just testing and r&ding this rifle out with different experimental configs because that is what navy special warfare dudes(as well as army soc dudes)do[with marines and army adopting the full length 417xm5 and m110 at respectively after testing this disaster and the scar]: probably testing it’s potential after the German military integrated the g28K into their military. seeing what this thing can do as a sbr battle rifle ina special purpose role which explains the lpvo (and the subsequent failure 🤣). we have seen these tests firsthand, best being the one on forgotten weapons of how a 10-12 inch 308 barrel effectively neuters its effectiveness ,puts out less velocity and power than an 8 inch ak 7.62x39 30 cal Barrel because of the amount of gun powder being burned and how much barrel is needed just for basic ball surplus (not the grain weight) …which explain why the military soc guys were interested in and went on to further develop and adopt the 300 blk 30 cal round for this exact reason- to be able to run a better pen, higher power 30 cal round out of a shorter barrel for close quarters engagements as well as having amazing range capabilities all within the light ar platform. we also saw the navy special warfare guys show interest in develop. And adoption of the 6mm 30 cal round for this same reason specifically for ship boarding actions (for marine raiders and their marksmen)and longer range app. I understand the need for a better, more powerful 30 cal round because the 556 just isn’t powerful enough and increasing its armor pen does not give it the (knock down) power and overall pen. And it isn’t brain surgery it isn’t even viable in paper, so I don’t understand the hk thought process or the German military’s thought process for requesting this and putting it into production.
Haven’t ran 8.6 but there are trade offs to everything amigo. 8.6 is intended to be a bigger .300 blk so it’s not gonna stay up in the air as long as you’d think

It’s called the m110a1. Thin barrel is more for semi auto
The g28 patrol is 16.5 also the basic mr308 and the LRP are 16.5
You take this out to 1000m. I’ve seen the LMT 13.5 do it. I inadvertently built a 13.5 p/w .308 Armalite. Love it.
