i just got this drone and thanks for all of the info. There is another feature about this drone where I heard that it can automatically return to it's take off point. This is great if you lose remote control connection to it, it just returns to it's base.
I really appreciate your production quality. Professional, concise, incisive - right to business. I wish others would follow your lead in making videos.
They hit quality vs price in a sweet spot and manuals and documentation on the electronics and safety will make this a hit, compared to other Chinese products.
The biggest short coming, and I think you touched on this, is that it doesn't have a conventional controller. Not all mobile devices are created equal and not all have a magnetometer (compass) installed. As an example my Samsung J5 will not work with this craft as the primary controller as it doesn't have a magnetometer. Also I don't believe flying from a mobile device provides the same and much needed resolution for video work that a regular RC controller can provide. Being either/or Android/iOS limits its long term usability especially if you migrate from one system to the other. So in summary it's too big to be a mobile operated selfie "drone" and lacks the controls to be a competitive videographers' platform. Regards Nidge.
Hey, Nidge! You make an excellent point, as it regards the fact that "not all mobile devices are created equal" -- and it's not one that occurred to me as we were making this video because, well, I was using my mobile device which was well-suited to the task. However, I definitely agree with you that the addition of a conventional controller would be a smart move on Ehang's behalf. Also, I think you're right to say that this really isn't a viable platform for any kind of serious aerial video/photography work -- the camera isn't up to it, along with the shortcomings in the control scheme. For me, the selling point for the whole system is "Avatar Mode" with a compatible mobile device. Honestly, I've never experienced anything quite like that... Turning my body around and having the aircraft turn with me while the gimbal tracks the movements of my head: it was a remarkably immersive experience, and I've been flying FPV for seven years now.
Thanks for the video. I am trying to figure out if you can install a different camera, such as a gopro. Do you happen to know? My camera isn't recording anything. It shows it's recording, but when I try to access any footage, there isn't anything there. I've tried everything, I've got multiple gorpo cameras and would prefer to use them anyway...thanks in advance!
Havent finished watching yet but so far not crazy bout having to antenna's next to my head. Next it seems this drone is prob not cheap, I'm guessing 1,200.00 minimum but havent checked yet. Lastly it seems you need to use the google to control the drone as he said the phone tx thru the googles to the drone... I'll keep watching though
Hi, Yesterday i took my drone far from home, about 2 hours away to take cool videos and pictures. When i got there it said i needed an internet connection to download maps.. Do you know if i can download all my local maps so that i dont need an internet connection at the time?
great work guys, you just earned another sub.....i fly Yuneec Q500 and The H Pro, am quite new in the drone hobby, still have a lot to learn obviously :) . Loved your review, a few questions come up. I did not notice anything mentioned on camera quality and settings, manual or auto or ....? Another issue is that internet is needed. So me not having internet connection while away from home automatically means i can not use this drone, sad 1....other issue is the one you mention that you cant cut off props in case of emergency, sad 2...video running as soon as you switch on? sad 3....control only by phone? there should be an option for RC,sad 4....i saw somewhere you need always near you the VR and switched on, even if you dont use them, and if the battery runs low fast as you mention ,then, sad 5......i know what you are thinking , why so sad? oh well, i really liked it in general, but these issues seem to me, as a newbie in the hobby, quite serious, making me think again if its actually worth the risk of getting one....your comments will be appreciated greatly....Happy Flying drone lovers
I love the underslung props, they're very efficient, the only thing that I don't like is the smartphone control. What is the flight times you got from a battery?
I agree -- I like the underslung props from an efficiency and vibration dampening perspective, and I'm surprised we haven't seen more drones incorporating that same design (I think Blade makes a micro-sized drone with under-slung propellers, and the Aeryon Scout uses them, as well -- for $150,000 a copy). Regarding flight endurance, as you can see for yourself in our test (ruclips.net/video/GxZkNu9mu-o/видео.htmlm48s), we got 15 minutes, 35 seconds out of a fully charged battery, landing when we received a low-battery indication from the app.
As someone who has done a lot of hand recovery with drones over the years, I definitely have to agree that it's a little more daunting when the props are mounted "upside down." But, of course, we shouldn't be hand recovering aircraft, anyway, per the AMA Safety Code and other reputable sources of guidance. So, I don't fault the aircraft designers for expecting us to follow the rules.
Yeah... I really wish other manufacturers would embrace this technology. Venom Power makes a third-party battery for the Phantom 3 which also has a little OLED screen that provides the same type of information. It's the bomb!
Hello Thank you for your video , if i had seen it before i would have not bought the drone.. now i have a stupid piece of plastic ... Thank you for your video anyhow !!! Great video, great explanations!! Thank you
only initial 3 flights which can be very short, after that other flight modes open up and you don't have to have internet especially if you use a tablet or phone with GPS to see maps
I would have liked to have option of using conventional controller but have really enjoyed flying this drone and the 1st release of it, I now have 3 of them footage is good but landing legs and props can get in the way filming, very responsive and good flight times, I have older eyes need to wear glasses and the VR doesn't give me a great feeling, plus you should have line of sight and here in Australia at least that would mean a spotter if you use the goggles
Interesting take on the drone I didn't get the yaw with rotating the phone but when you rotated your whole body that was cool and made sense. Not impressed with the video recorded from the camera gimble it was really wobbly. Any chance that is a bad setting or something? Cool and unique take on a crowded market.
Hi, David! Yeah -- the yaw definitely makes more sense when you commit to the goggles and start turning your whole body in place. I've been flying FPV for seven years now, and I've never had such an immersive experience. The name "Avatar mode" is indeed well chosen. Regarding the video: we operated it using the default settings it came with straight from the factory -- so I think you're pretty much seeing the camera as is... All that said, I definitely agree that it's a unique and interesting take on the consumer drone -- especially at the $399 price point, and their warranty is just unbelievable.
About the warranty: they will fully replace the aircraft in the event of a catastrophic crash -- even if it's your fault -- either two or three times... I can't remember which. Anyway, it's such a tremendous benefit that I'm worried it could drive them out of business. As it happens, I just read an article the other day on DroneLife (dronelife.com/2016/12/29/ehang-still-hanging/) which indicated that they just laid off about 1/4 of their employees -- definitely something to keep in mind when you're making a purchasing decision: will the company be around to provide support and fulfill their warranty obligations.
Thank you! As to the watches -- each of them serves a different purpose. On my left wrist, I wear a Casio G-Shock which is "just" a watch: solar powered with atomic time synchronization, it should always be able to give me the current time, under any circumstances. The other "watch" is actually a Garmin Fenix 3 HR, which I purchased to replace my Fitbit Surge when the band started to come apart. The fact that it works like a watch is really incidental to me -- I use it to make GPS records of my hikes, record daily footsteps, and so forth. The two do make a nice pairing when I travel, however. I leave the Casio set for my home time zone and the Garmin updates the local time automatically from the GPS satellites overhead -- so I have my home and away time available at a glance.
Hi, because i see that you have ghost drone 2.0 I decide to contact with you. I justice buy my drone and try to connect it to iOS (iPhone) but I have some connectivity problem "no internet connection". I've tried to restart Gbox and drone to instal and uninstall the app several times but without success ;( please HELP ;( if you know what to do. Ps: I have Ariel version.
We tend not to put "perishable" information in our videos, like the cost of a particular unit at the moment we happen to publish the video. Especially around the holidays, prices tend to swing pretty wildly for products like this... That said, right now it's available at Best Buy for $399. Here is a link: www.bestbuy.com/site/ehang-ghostdrone-2-0-aerial-drone-white-blue/5404200.p?skuId=5404200
Fair point... Or, I could just do a better job of including links to that type of information in the video description -- that way, the information would both be readily available and up-to-date. Hmmmm... Anyway, thanks for watching and I'm glad you've enjoyed our videos over the past six years (Yikes!)
Is it 399 for the standard model, or the VR2.0? in essence it is not that cheap , cause you will definitely not remain with just one battery from the box, buying 2 or 3 more will greatly increase the cost, which i will consider as initial and must have to have a complete package.By the way , i got into drones only to hold, control and play with the RC in my hands, if i want a mobile game, am sure i could get one from the Play store, lol....
seems like a great idea at first. Unfortunately having a 5.8 GHz signal right next to your head is really a bad idea medically.2.4 GHz is bad enough but both? Having both a degree in engineering and a short stint in med school and working with a county where police cars changed radar units to the outside of car dur to high incidence cancer I can say goggles --bad.
Seem to be such an awesome drone, if not for the whole phone-control-only. They should at least have included the option to buy a separate controler. What a missed oportunity.
Ok, I decided def dont like this drone for the simple fact that it doesnt have a joystick controller, flyin with the foolish cell as the controller is not fun, just sayin. Im sure for the expensive price of this - they could of included a controller...
I'm sorry but this drone seems to be to complicated and I rather have a remote control option. I think there are other compatible and quality drones to choose from that are not so complicated. I don't know. Maybe it was my perspective of this video.
Quite right! Nice catch, by the way! I guess my manned aviation got the best of me... Doing all of those "touch *and* goes" while earning my private pilot's certificate obviously ingrained that phrase in my subconscious even more than I realized.
Good Morning! I bought my ghostdrone now, but I'm having a hard time loading his battery. I left the battery charging for 5 hours, but it only charged 10%. Can you help me please?
I would not buy this drone; what's going to happen when/if you drop your cell phone and it breaks with the UAV still in the air? A UAV controlled by a cell phone just isn't safe. I'd want a controller not a cell phone. I cannot see this one taking off.
I wouldnt buy this drone. I made the mistake in buying one and when I got it it wouldn't connect. try to get in touch with customer support is a joke. they have ZERO customer support. spend a few more dollars and get a better drone and support.
Hi, John! I agree that the Ghost has some serious shortcomings: I'd really like a conventional controller and the lack of an obvious "emergency stop" function in the app is a serious oversight. Roswell Flight Test Crew Warranty is great, but can't recommend this drone to any of my friends with the other choices out there. I know it's difficult to be neutral on some of your reviews but I'll say it for you, this drone sucks! Love your videos guys but this drone is dead already.
i just got this drone and thanks for all of the info.

That VR thing looks so cool!
i was going to order now but after viewing this video it change my mind thanks for making this video and sharing with us.

Great video guys, thanks for making it!
would it be possible to link a regular controller to this drone?
Outstanding review guys. it helped me a lot. Thanks.
thanks guys! your reviews are sophisticated and well reasoned. Just keep on going this way!
Thanks very much! We do our best...
very good test
Тест со временем,вообще супер!!! Спасибо.

thank you this video helped a lot and you conveyed the information very clear and professional.
Hi, Derk! I'm glad you found it helpful! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment for us...
Awesome Vid Guys! ✌️ ☺️ Thanks
Where can I found the battery replacement?
I'm interested Fry's has one on sale but no remote? Mmmm. Is it possible to bind it with a after market remote?
they should have gave a controller and gimbal control on googles
Great video .. thank you guys

Great work guyz!
I have made up my mind.
Thanks, Dick! Glad you found it to be helpful and informative... I'm a diver myself -- be safe down there!
I will make a place on the boat for you. Come on down the weather and water is great!
Great Video ...thanks
Was this drone discontinued?
Great lecture, thanks a lot
Can I bind it with spectrum controller?
tweedle dee and tweedle dumb... lol. Another great Cid guys! 👍
I love the underslung props, they're very efficient, the only thing that I don't like is the smartphone control.
What is the flight times you got from a battery?
every day I see a new video of someone catching a drone by hand this just makes it all the more risky.

what is interesting about their warranty?
I have been seeing ehang around a lot more recently.
Perhaps they will earn my $$ sometime soon

Nice drone, btw why do you wear two watches?

только 2,4 ГГц , потому что это излучение сигнала управления . 5,8 ГГц - это сигнал который излучает дрон , и антенна на очках его принимает
En play store no me sale al parecer lo actyalizaron pero no hay tutoria
any link to it?
Just added it to the video description, but here it is again: www.ehang.com/
I wouldn't trust my phone to control a selfie drone, much less one that costs hundreds of dollars,I'll take a remote controller any day.
