In 2016 when the debates and everything was going on I was like "at least he's honest?" Honesty is great but you can be honest about being an ass**** or a murderer... that doesn't make you the right person for the job.

I saw a quote in the early Trump years that I felt in part with that line.
“Democrats seek to help their constituents.
Republicans seek to punish those their constituents hate.”
I like say that Democrats are corrupt and incompetent and that's bad, but Republicans are malevolent and that is worse.

As a Black American, I cringe every single time folks use the word "woke". They sound like idiots using it because the word "woke" means to be aware of the systemic racism that is around you and act accordingly. It was a word that was coined by Black Americans back in the 30s and 40s and was popularized in our community the 60s and 70s. It doesn't mean any social issue/agenda that a conservative doesn't like.
I explained this to a white guy once. But I also said that white people have NO PROBLEM stealing from other groups to use for their own purposes. So when this white guy asked me; "Do we we still use the word 'woke'? I said; "Not so much. Its another thing taken by whitey and exploited to the point we can't find useful to say anymore."
The ones who want to alter its meaning know that. Their followers don’t know and don’t care. Woke was used by them in this way because the first people they want to see dead are black, oftentimes with other communities following suit. They especially want to see black women dead first.
Being aware of injustice (and demanding better) to minorities IS what conservatives hate, though.
woke means so many things nowadays that it means nothing anymore tbh. So people are stupid for saying it anyway.

As someone who serves in the military it terrifies that so many of fellow service members support politicians who act this way behind closed doors.
The really horrible thing is that the Democrats almost as blindly rubber stamp the defense budget without looking at benefits and pay for the actual troops and vets. Not saying both sides are equal but Dems could certainly be doing a LOT better for unions and working people in the military.
In Djibouti, I encountered far too many Trumpers. Even my CLU mate was in love with the guy. During the attempted insurrection, I was kinda worried what would happen if Donny gave some kind of order to his followers. Choosing sides on a joint base in the middle of the desert would've made for quite the war story.
Behind closed doors? Trump came right out in a public speech and said servicemen seeking benefits were losers who couldn't get a real job. And no Trump supporter cared.

As a troop, I felt this one. Everyone is always talking about the money spent on the military, but I tell you, we dont actually see a dime of it. Our equipment, barracks, and family housing are so subpar

I've played this over a number of times and it still rings true to the word. Spot on. The only question I've ever had is why do working people vote Republican.
Working people, women, minorities....anyone with a modicum of intelligence or empathy...
Some people (like myself) have different opinions from what one side says. I am french, so in my country, i would probably be left leaning. (because i feel like the biggest talking points are about ecology, modernisation of school, public transports and immigration). I am a young adult, so i have yet to vote for a president to feel what it's like. But if i was in the USA, i would vote for the right, because voting for the left helps the current cancel culture, the rise for equality of outcome/diversity (and the downfall of equality of opportunity/merit), and the doubts in physics/biology.
So, in the end, i would vote for the candidate that defends most of my values (that is the least against my thoughts), i would not vote for a side of the political spectrum.
It's becuz they're uneducated. Most people who vote republican don't have anything higher than a high school diploma, while postgraduates tend to vote heavily democratic.

I can't care less was the trans debate is about, when the party I have to vote for is against what actually matters for MY survival and happiness. How can I not get homeless with rising rents, how do I keep my finances growing, what about my health care. You care about teaxhers being woke, I care about teachers being there at all, 1/4 of school time not being cancelled, schools not crumbling apart. With half of my teachers back then when I was in school, I probably didn't agree with. Who cares when some of them were even good teachers that still provided education? And there's so much more that actually touches my life directly, why would I define my vote by the trans issue even though I find a lot of it stupid? I have 30+ parties to vote, and it's still always a compromise as none will reflect my opinions to 100%. It's definitely easy though to exclude some directly as they are e.x. non democratic, or based on a certain religion, or absolutely non realistic etc. At the end if I'm lucky I end at one being 75% in my alley. But again, culture cool, but at the end economics matter more.

Pretty much nailed it except for the missing gun rights issue. Many people vote Republicans based on that one issue and think that the Republican politicians are all about protecting their personal freedoms. Like the man says, they're easily exploitable.

@@fordalels The gun owners that I talked to agree. Guns should be available to people willing to use them properly, not to everyone on Earth. I think a big concern is that the most restrictive states put a ton of bureaucracy behind gun ownership for responsible people, and that probably leaves a poor taste.

A lot of GOP politicians are saying this out loud and they are still getting votes, they are literally telling their voters exactly this and they still vote for them, it blows my mind how easy they are to manipulate.
That's because they don't believe that the Democrats are any better. And when one side is at least being honest about hating your guts while you believe the other are hiding it . . . well, honesty is the best policy after all.
Some of them know but won't admit to being wrong since it hurts them way too much. They don't want to acknowledge they are wrong. They want simple answers because thinking too much is tiring and stressful.
Instead of actually learning why housing prices go so high up and working conditions and compensations got worse, they will pick the simple and easy answer "its the immigrants" as if changing just that will somehow make everything better.
Because those voters hear the racism, homo/transphobia, xenophobia, etc. That’s all they really care about.
