As a Defender owner and anxiously waiting for the videos of what your doing to yours. Great video to tease with. Looks like you guys are doing some great goodies on yours. Can't wait to see the final product.
Great video as always guys. Its nice to have a place that gives you straight forward information presented in a reasonable way with a logical explanation without a bunch of hype and sales stuff. Keep up the good work!
Can you do an update vid on your Defender? I would love to hear what all you have done to it and see some footage of it in action. Great vids on the channel btw, very informative!
Pretty much answered what I had been wanting to ask since the release of these gen 3s... I was wondering if I could get away with some 33s on 4" 15% portals on my xp4 1k.
I just put a set of portals on a 2020 can am maverick sport xxc. I've got a real problem with turning now. It will not turn for nothing. It's not that it's pushing my front tires will not turn but one round on the steering wheel.
What's a good 35" tire for rock crawling? I see guys using truck tires, but aren't they too heavy? I hope the ATV tire manufactures start building similar tires for side by sides and keep the weight down.
I have a 2023 defender xmr and it has 30” stock tires. Want to put 6” portals and run 40” tires. Would a 30% gear reduction be ideal for trail riding in the mud? Thanks man, new subscriber here!
Personally if you are stepping up to a 40” tire you would probably be happy with a 30% gearing and may be slightly under geared at that. Meaning you would almost be at a 1:1 ratio depending the true size of the tire. Have you found a tire you want to run?
SlikRok Productions ok when you know let me know and I’ll get signed up. Just registered but didn’t pick any trails because I didn’t know witch ones you were guiding
I’m looking for a build that will allow me to use Tracks... is that possible? Tracks on Portal Lifts? Looking to lift my North Star Crew for rock crawling and mild river crossing up in the Rocky’s. Any suggestions on size of lift, highlighter and portal combo? I’m wanting to make a Hunting Rig for the Mountains but still be easy to get in and out of for Farm/Homestead chores like hauling hay, snow plowing, loading and hauling grain. I’m 5’7”... just a little guy. I don’t have too much trouble getting in and out my Ram 2500 Cummins with a 4” lift and a side step.... if that helps. Any help and suggestions with my Ranger, I would greatly appreciate it. -Purple Heart Combat Veteran
Possible yes, a fabrication nightmare very mush so. also the issue is tracks are already providing gear reduction and then the portals on top of that will loose any top end. We have gone down this road and ended up scrapping it on our ranger build.
SlikRok Productions ok so next question: Is there room under the Bed in the engine bay for an aftermarket Turbo? I truly want to make a Ranger Turbo S with a 6” lift. I have always been a firm believer in compensating added weight with more torque and horsepower. Heck, if there is enough HP, there could be a significant increase in fuel performance as well. I know when I tuned and added a CAI to my Ram Cummins truck, it great improved my HWY MPG (27 hwy empty weight). If this is possible, what Turbo company would you go with and is there a stealth or silent muffler you can buy for these? I want to be the quietest Hunting UTV without going all electric (EV Ranger).
SlikRok Productions you lose too End with tracks already, portals don’t re-compensate? Or is it one of those upside-down engineering problems with the gearing? At this point, it seems more logical to put a charger system on the engine, lift it 6” with a highlighter kit with all the needed HD components and run 35”s and Polaris Tracks on it. Swap tracks and wheels as needed. I know that MATTRACKS won’t mount up to Highlifter lower control arms (I think they are designed for OEM lowers). But the Polaris Tracks look promising. What do you think?
@@rocketman3776 Yes there is enough room to add a turbo and there is actually a company in Utah called Keep Smiling Powersports that has a turbo set up you can order.
I have a 2019 xmr outlander 1000 and have been wanting to go to 32” tire I ride mud and still enjoy the trails as well would a 15% gear reduction work for a mud tire of that size ? Thanks for the great videos and info
Got a 15 900xp ranger on 32x10x14 now with 2 inch forward arms and bracket lift. Going to go to a 4 inch portal and a 33x10x20. I’ve got a gilomen tune and there big tire clutch kit and my ranger runs better than it did stock and still hits 65mph. I’m thinking 15% what do you think I don’t want to lose much power. I easy ride only. Thanks
With your set up and riding style I would for sure recommend the 15%. In both our rangers and defenders we run the 15% and has been a great combo for these rigs
How do you feel about 5-10 minutes of running 35-40 mph on portals. Sometimes I got to run down the road to get to the other side of the lake and got to run speed limit on the blacktop road. All other times be slow rides 20mph or less and not steady speeds
Love you’re stuff!!! X3 XRS with 4” I want to run 35”’s I think that would be a bad ass look. What reduction? I want to be able to do 65 without the motor screaming bloody murder. Lol I love the torque but I can’t lose the complete top end. Please help Thanks
Would like info on the scissor lifts you use? Looking for something to lift high enough to get lifted machine off the ground without using a fork lift. Haha
Hello i got a 21 general xp4. Want to run 35" vs the stock 30" tires. I would like to keep the top end about the same but also have enough gearing for trail and rock crawling. I want the 4" portals but im not sure about 15% or 30% reduction. What would you recommend? Thanks in advanced
Thanks for this video! I want to put 6” portals on my X3 and run 40” tires. Would you recommend the 30 or 45 percent reduction? We ride the deep mud and some trail too. I don’t need to run 65mph, but I don’t want to be redlined at 40 either. Thanks for any help.
You may want to rethink that portal lift. I put one on my can am and can't turn for nothing. Looking like I spent way to much money on unnecessary equipment that I can't use now. I've been on the phone with superatv and they are like well you bought it good luck with it. Very unhappy....
Charley Stevens we just got done installing the front and doing the back this weekend. I went back and forth about putting steering stops in, but I did anyway. What if you took those out, would that give you some better turning? I hope your wrong on this. I’ve talked to several people and you are the first that has had this problem. Kingbossquad has two of these machines that he loves. Send him a message and see what kind of problems he is having. I guess I’ll find out this weekend what it will or will not do. Thanks
Great video.. I have a 2019 can am defender xmr with forward arms on 35 motohavoks with a clutch kit wanting to go with 37’ and 4 inch portals what do you recommend for gear ratio.
What up, congrats on the purchase. Possible yes, fabricating nightmare also a yes. Plus tracks are gear reduction as well and you would have no top speed doing them on top of each other,
Marcos Olivo we have a video on our channel here that talks about portals and what reduction goes best with what machine and tire application. If you go up to a 35” tire the 30% reduction would be better for that size
If I buy a Can Am defender hd10 4 and lift it to run 37s with 24" wheels or even 22" wheels with no bigger then a 37" tire, what size portal would i need and reduction size to still have top speed and jump it if I wanted to lol
Very good choice for that size tire. We actually have a brand new set of Gen2 4" portals 30% reduction for a defender we can save you some money if you are interested.
What we really need to be asking is why a 45% isn't available in a 4" lift. No need for a idle gear cause your ratios is from the input to output gears idle gears do nothing.
