A new car design drawing is generated that creates a new front end design on the original body side. Several methods for creating the copy of the original car design sketch are discussed including tracing paper and an animators light box. Because not everyone has access to a variety of art materials like different kinds of tracing paper or vellums, or a light box, an alternative to these is shown.
A window is used as a light box to allow the car designer to trace the original newsprint car design drawing. A new sheet of newsprint is placed over the original sketch the the original sketch can then be traced to allow a new front end design to be generated quickly and easily. This new front end is more sympathetic to the body side of the car. It curvier and carries the theme to the body side through and around the front end of the car.
The window as a light box is a very effective way for the young aspiring car designer to create many variations of their design themes. This video shows you how to generate variations of your car design drawing using this technique. All that is needed is a pad of drawing paper, a pencil and some tape. This technique is great for creating many variations of your transportation design sketches using the same base underlay car drawing.
Of course you can purchase a professional light box which will make the process much easier. Either way, the goal is to share secrets of how to generate many automotive design ideas quickly and easily. I also wanted to dispel the myth that automotive designers do not trace. Car designers
do what they need to do to get the job done quickly, at the nighest level. Tracing is sometimes part of this process.

@@richardike2342 There was a joint venture between Mitsu and Chrysler to build the Eclipse and Talon. The joint venture was called Diamond Star Motors, DSM. The term DSM was used in house and then picked up by the tuner crowd to describe any of the cars made by the joint venture company.
@@howtodrawcars. l remember that Chrysler/Mitsubishi joint venture era. It also produced the Mitsubishi 3000GT, and its Chrysler twin; the Dogde Stealth (which l prefered).
@@richardike2342 Yes, the Dodge was a better looking car. It was designed by Dan Sims, if I remember correctly. The studio where that car was done was directly across the hall from mine.

I would like to learn about sketching in different views and perspectives. And also about how to develop visual elements in the exterior design of a car. Would be a great help if you do a few videos on this. Because I can draw cars effectively only in a few views and it's difficult to visualise them in other more unconventional views. And I also have trouble developing my own concepts and how to make them look visually integrated and pretty
Drawing cars in perspective is one of the hardest things a creative person can attempt to do. The plan is to do some perspective videos to show how to set any car up in different views. I have a problem that I have many ideas for car but I can't express them on my car sketch!!! when ever I start sketching that on paper I feel that its not taking that shape which I imagine because I am not able to think and draw perfect shape of the front. I can't understand the perfect 3d shape of front :'(
Drawing cars is really hard. You have to practice a lot. Don't be afraid of the hard work it takes to get good and improve. If it was easy, everyone would do it!

Line weight is the thickness or thinness of the lines you draw. A thinner line would have a lighter visual weight and the thicker line would look visually heavier.

Just find a pencil with a very soft lead. You want a pencil that will allow you to make very light lines and very dark lines without having to switch to a different pencil.

You're not wrong. It was either foreshorten it or it would have gone out of the camera frame. Drawing cars is hard. Drawing cars so they stay in the camera frame is really hard! :-)
