Pay per mile has been with us for years - it's called Fuel Duty and VAT - the more miles you travel the more fuel you have to buy the more money goes to government.
Their own figures say 90% of cars are currently compliant. Most of the 10% will just pay the fee anyway out of necessity. So how is the air going to be cleaner?
There is NO clean air benefit from ULEZ in outer London where the air is already very clean. It is surprising that some people still say ULEZ should be ‘postponed’. Postponed for what? It should NEVER be implemented, especially in outer London as it is purely 100% a money grab tragically from the poorest in society, and will not make any difference to the air quality.
@ChelseaFootballClub1905 that's simply not true. Any areas with traffic are going to suffer poor air quality, and even if it isn't as bad as some other areas in London, there's simply no reason why you shouldn't seek to improve.
@@chrisearle1542 Yes, improve the air quality in a fair and equitable way, not unfairly penalising the poorest and less able people on flawed data. If you are interested in air quality, then why are you not lobbying the Mayor concerning the very unhealthy air in the London Underground? Another point that you may not be aware of is that 50% of emissions are generated through brakes, tyres and wear on the road surface. This applies to EVs too! In fact it is greater for EVs due to them being heavier with the massive battery. I have a 26 year old immaculate classic car with just over 45,000 miles on the clock which is my hobby. I cover less than 400 miles/year (= one tankful petrol/year) mainly on the motorway and never go into London. So why am I required to pay £12.50 per day? If you Google the following exactly: "Worlds Air Pollution: Real-time Air Quality Index”, you will see that the air quality is good in outer London and even elsewhere in London!
The question and proof! If it was about health, why did Khan not organise low interest loans payable over 7 to 10 years that would have allowed the poorest to upgrade at a reasonable cost. I borrowed 18000.00 at 3.8% from a high street bank to try to upgrade and paid the money back after a couple of months as I was paying 400.00 per month for the loan! I decided to keep my non compliant car and pay the tax when I needed to use the car. Getting non compliant cars off the road was never the plan. Our narcisist Mayor needed the poorest in society to pay for the ULEZ infrastructure and cameras and needed the income to balance the financial black hole at TFL. He has hit the poorest of car owners who could not afford to upgrade. What a nasty piece of work we have as our Mayor. WE will get rid of him at the next election. Mark my words. The stink of ULEZ will never wash off him!
What is worse is the fact that soon enough they will change the rules and more and more cars will be charged. It's 2006 cars at the moment. Next it will be 2009, and so on. Just wait and see.
Please stop calling it £12.50 everyone. If you forget to pay you'll get a fine multiple times that. And more if you can't pay soon enough the fine with be more than 10x!! When the brown envelopes drop on their doorsteps people will wake up.

You think this will stop when Khan has gone? Think again, this is WEF policy and will be followed by whoever is in office.
Actually Boris is the one who announced the ULEZ
Londoners will never get rid of him.
'A Sod' That's probably a polite way of putting it.
Great to listen to a broad range of insights and opinions. Really exceptional journalism.
Trying to work out what you’re getting at
Khan doing his bosses Klaus Schwab's dirty work.
This makes me so so angry. These are everyday people struggling through no fault of their own. Disgusting
People have been told for 30 years, at least, what the problems are, which is plenty of time to do something of their own volition. If they haven't they only have to themselves to blame.
Many people voted for Brexit and made themselves poorer yet they’re not to blame for struggling? 😂
@@Bitcoinaire1 Most people in London voted to Remain in the EU and Labour and Khan.
Heard everything now ,from Boris and Brexit caused Covid and now Brexit caused ULEZ!! No ,MaJor Khan and the ' science he pays for reports are responsible for the cruel application of ULEZ.
The same ' science' responsible for Covid lockdown?
@@Bitcoinaire1 they often were heard to say that it didn't matter. Being poorer.
Nobody tells me what I can and can't drive / ride , especially a taxpayers employee.
they tell people to buy electric cars an they drive in range rovers an take planes for trips
Uxbridge in the news !! In essence , the new charges are about revenue . If they were about emissions , id say take a look at developing countries such as inidai , china etc ,,they are pumping out emissions at a rate we could only imagine in nightmares . Yet , the UK , which is smog free , acid rain free , and everyday lowering pollution , is being squeezed .
The poor will be priced off of the road , the public transport system will continue to be poor , despite huge funding .And the elderly and vulnerable , like my 86 year old dad , will be left standing at the side of the road , waiting for a promised bus link home . While the wealthy , who can splurge £30-90,000 on a new , all singing electric car , will have a road devoid of the usual driver's. Who are all barely able to pay bills, let alone buy a new car .
It's beyond shocking now . If it were a book or TV series , you would admonish it for it's inaccuracies. But right here and now , the poor are being persecuted for not being able to spend £50 thousand plus on a new car .
Vote Reform
we already live in a dystopia. i believe thats also why they constantly show us these dystopian dark sci fi movies and series on tv and in cinemas. so that we dont realize we already live in a dystopia because its a little bit darker in the movies :D
DO NOT PAY. It’s simple if all Londoners stood together and didn’t pay they would lose !! DO NOT PAY !
Dangerous advice - the fines and court charges ramp up VERY quickly - you will have bailiffs on the door demanding £1000 as fast as you can say 'poor housing, mould on walls is the real cause of asthma.'
It's only 10% of Londoners that will be affected.
just like the poll tax they rioted
Thank You TalkTV for giving a voice to people
Sometimes they turn the comments off when you really want to add a comment like they did earlier today with some pro ulez Irish chap spouting absolute drivel and you couldn’t comment…
Comments should be full time ON AND UNCENSORED.
You’ll soon lose viewers by selective comments
Yes
Its a massive issue because we are struggling with cost of living and higher interest rates. And this is the time they want to do this to make people struggle more. Yes we need to reduce pollution but at this time when people are on their knees?!
JUST EVERY ONE REFUSE TO PAY THE COUNCIL TAX ,and send a message to the Government . Better than the old POLL TAX RIOTS . 🤔
Council tax is a joke. Should be paid by the owners, not renters.
@@emperorpatrisia5771 so i guess you rent. why should we pay for you
What steps could be taken against them if everyone refused go pay this iniquitous tax? After all it was how Thatchers Poll tax was overturned.
They just changed the name, I.e community charge.
Exactly mass non compliance! They cannot fine, drag everyone to court.
@@robertparkinson6919 Not at all - Poll Tax would have been a Tax levied on every adult person in the Council area - Community Charge is still, like the old rates, levied on the property, not the number of people living in the property.
No they did not!!!! Poll tax was a per adult tax, and it was fairer. Unlike the council tax which is the same huge tax regardless of how many adults live at the house. Little old lady pensioner pays the same bill as a family of 20 with the council tax and that cannot be right when the one lady uses no council services compared to the big family@@robertparkinson6919
It’ll be interesting what will happen if every vehicle is compliant, will it end, I think not! Will the categories tighten or will they go straight to pay per mile, I wonder!
The U will be dropped and every Internal Combustion Engine car will have to pay to travel in the Low Emission Zone
And so they should, if you want clean pollution free air then the only way is to go electric.
A huge protest needs to go down
He must be able to smell the hatred for him in the air - and that's just from me!
More people should have switched off TikTok and voted for someone else. Bet half of those moaning didn’t even vote.
Then again it wouldn’t matter who was voted in as they would still do the bidding of those up above.
I'm a lorry driver I go into the ulez area and I don't understand how or why the transport industry have allowed this to happen, if they had just said you bring this in and we will stop delivering to London, with a day or 2 all the shops would be empty and yes I get that would be bad for the People but it never would have got to that point Genghis khans would have pulled the plug. That's just my opinion and based on naff all except my own logic 😂
Because you can claim back the money from HMRC
The Ulez Road Signs are illegal because they don't show on them that you are entering a charging zone 🎉❤😊
The best thing in the UK you can do is move into the countryside as far away from the government's reach as possible. But then there's always someone who would come and tell you the cows on nearby field fart too much and you need an ultra low emission zone on your countryside road.
The trouble is this has been going on for quite a long time. I live in Norfolk and house prices have gone through the roof. Loads of second homes and retirees from the home counties.
Look at the Netherlands, they are testing parts of the overall plan everywhere in small parts but combine them all and you see the full picture. "It's 2030 and I have no privacy or property and I have never been happier."
they laid it all out for everyone to see but we have been divided and our attention drawn to individual pieces of the plan. This has all been engineered to take complete control. Biden in America calling for the end of specific household appliances like has stoves, ceiling fans and even home defence. Truedo with removal of dissenters bank accounts, China with the Social Credit Score. The U.K. With the anti-protest laws and this ULEZ scam, the Netherlands with their seizure of farmland. Put it all together and it becomes clear that the plan is to completely change society into a digital authoritarian regime and as much as a sci-fi dystopian novel it may sound, what other answer is there when so many goverments seem to be driving towards the goal set out by the WEF and has members of that group inbedded within the governments.
We are screwed.
Don't think the Government has anything to do with running London . But Rishi Sunak needs a pair of balls to let Khan know he can't ruin a once great capital.
haha this is too funny - but true - give the doo gooders time and they will be waving their banners outside farms complaining about the smell fouling the air- forgetting they are growing their own produce in manure at home - now seeing our fab farmers react to such muppets would be great fun lol
@@brianwalker2696 ... Makes no difference, Conservative, Labour, Lib-Dem, all would bring this policy in as its part of the bigger agenda.
