This piece is five times more difficult playing in performance than in one's study. It is completely exposed; the intervals are difficult; and the slightest self-consciousness leads to disaster. I find I can play it well only by being completely relaxed and at peace. Thank you for the many expressive moments in this interpretation.
Soft and milky sound, beautiful tone through the suite, congrats! (veterinarian/an amateur horn player here- I am playing only Sarabande of this suite and I switched to single b horn not transposing so my tutor says that I sound as ideal descant, but I am playing with repetitions so it is suuper hard and immensely rewarding at the same time..)
How fantastic the sound you make is!! I’m 14 years old and l play the Horn in the wind orchestra club.I would like to be able to play the Horn like you. I will practice harder.Your music made my heart warm.Thank you!!🥰🥰
i know this is like a year late but i’m in 9th grade and i play the horn and i’m the only one in my whole school, everyone who plays always quits because i watch other people play and i get motivated to keep playing!
Jaw dropped when I saw this was a real performance - noticing the time, "over 15 minutes, he's going to play the whole thing?!" - jaw still dropping - he plays the whole thing, and look at that, all those high notes and low notes (where his jaw is dropping too) - but was it music? Yup. Beautiful, thank you. Jaw won't close...
Aidan Peck thank you very much! What you said means a lot to me. I really cared about this piece, so you can see me hesitating for so long before starting it.
I never knew this was transcribed for horn. Just ordered the sheet music. Now to work on my intervals! Thank you for the inspiration and superb performance.
Thank you for your practice and for providing this recording. It's unlikely that Bach imagined this work played on the horn, but I think he would approve.
So Amazing!!! I know it is super difficult for French Horn!!! Oh my God! Every section of music blows my mind! Thank you for sharing this for world. Your sound is so beautiful and comfortable. I was moved.🥰
Wow! So impressive. Never thought this piece could be achieved on the horn..but you play beautifully! You have inspired me to learn this piece on the horn now!
Derek Hayes Thank you very much! Even though the live performance did not go as clean as I dreamed, I have put a lot of effort in this piece and comment like this is a great reward!
Thanks - I have the Wendell Hoss book of the suites for horn, but never thought that it was possible to actually perform them! I was so wrong! And glad to be wrong - great to listen to your performance
Absolutely amazing playing! I just had a question. I just get lost at the end of the Prelude (I'm using this as an example for my own practice), do you stop 2 bars early?
Thank you! I know that some transcriptions for horn have extra two bars of arpeggios in G major at the end of the Prelude, but I just played the way Cello plays it. Just end on a G Major chord.
I used to play the horn (very very poorly) in school. I am thankful for the experience as I learned to appreciate music and true art. Thank you for this wonderful video, it is truly amazing.
Wow! That's how you play some horn! You really put your heart into that performance. A real pleasure from start to finish. I played the trumpet for 17 years and I recently started playing horn. I love it! I see you're playing on a horn that works backwards to what I'm used to in America... I think that's so cool! What kind of horn is it? I really love how sensitive the horn is compared to trumpet and how vocal it is. Wonderful Performance! I love how you stated the very end too! Bravo!
Thanks for a wonderful comment. I play on an Engelbert Schmid triple horn. It has two thumb keys so that’s why it looks a little awkward when I press one.
Well, it would have been best to not have a grand piano on stage for this piece, but I was playing other pieces on same concert so that would be too much work. I just made sure to sit far enough from it so it doesn’t interfere with my sound.
Charlie Ditchman well, usually having a triple makes my life easier, but on that particular piece a double horn would have been better choice. I just didn’t have tome to get used to my old double horn. Anyway, thanks for a comment!
@@yegresa a few years have passed and have finally learned why a double is almost always the better option for most players. university has really taught me some things!
all french horn players know how hard that piece must be. massive respects
I can hardly play this workout tiring. The end kills me

I don't even care about the little slips because that was truly astounding!

Where did he slip? I play horn too but I heard no slip

Bravo. This piece is insanely difficult on the horn. you play it beautifully
David Holloway thanks a lot!
Thank you for your practice and for providing this recording. It's unlikely that Bach imagined this work played on the horn, but I think he would approve.
I imagined Bach also being fascinated by the keys on the horn.
Just played this for my college audition, they told me I dont have to audition anywhere else! :D
Extremely difficult piece done amazingly well.....
I am laughing out loud, this is so absolutely beautiful and inspiring. One day I wish to play it this well!

Any tips for doing the mordents correctly and make them sound good?
Ben Seabolt umm i’m also still trying, but maybe try to use a lot of air while having them sounding as clear as possible in your head.
Could you link me to where I could access the sheet music please?
hal leonard made a version of this, transcribed by wendell hoss
as a french horn player, I know how difficult these intervals are. I couldn't do that
太有勇氣了!
superb!
where did you get the sheet music
Awesome job !!
