So young. Shinji was just a boy. Just a child. His theme always serves as a stark reminder of this. This was a child with the weight of the world on his shoulders. A poor and lonely child with the fate of the world resting on him.
This melody is also used for My Country Tis of Thee and God Save The King, but one of the oldest compositions is an Anthem called Remember, O Thou Man. Look it up, it's interesting in the context of EVA and Shinji specifically.
This song not only perfectly reminds me of Evangelion and Shinji, I think it also explains without a single word what life is.
I just realized that this work is inspired by the beginning of Rachmaninoff's piano concerto No. 2. What a great composer is Shiro Sagisu.
True. Had the opportunity to go to a rach2 concerto, one of the best stuff I heard in my life! and this symphony totally makes you remember that amazing concerto.

Chopin has some good piano music and you’d have to ask around but shiro was inspired by some VERY specific classic pianist that I believe were Russian but most of the creators music is similar

There’s a Space Battleship Yamato ost called “Palace Bemlayze” that has a similar vibe IMO.
