I am so poor, that if I want to have something, I have to make it myself. I do not feel bad about copying anything. By the time I am done "copying" it, it is very different anyway. I end up making so many alterations and changes to the style that the original just becomes a jumping off point. It basically becomes an inspiration for a piece.
Isn’t sewing material really expensive though? I mean the initial investment. I’m coming from a perspective of curiosity not judgement, because I find this hobbie really interesting, but I remember Lucy saying it was a pricey one
@@newchapterasmr I almost never buy material new. I find thrifted fabric, or even find discarded garments or linens to use the fabric from. If I buy new fabric, I buy when it is on clearance. I even buy thread on discount. I once bought a box full of colored thread that was clearanced to 10 cents a spool. If you are used to having to scrounge for things, you develop an eye to find them.
@@newchapterasmrI buy bed linen 100% cotton and table cloths 100% linen. This way I get more for my buck, especially because where I moved now there are no thrift stores as in the US. They only sell clothes and everything is poliester, which I hate. Btw, I get most of the bed linen either from H&M, Ikea or Zara. They really do have good quality bed linen, colors are great ans you can get a lot of fabric for about 20-30 (sometimes 60) dollars. With one duvet cover (individual), I can make a blouse with puff sleeves, structured zipper shorts and a full puffy sleeve mid-length dress. I'll upload some of those makes soon. This gives me 3 garments for quite a little money, but I have full control of what they will look like and to modify them in the way I like.
@@newchapterasmrRecently i fall in love with a beautiful linen designer dress. Original it was 1300 euro. My magnificent linen fabric was 70, my sewing machine 120. Let's say this dress costme 200 euro. I absolutely love it. So, i definitely saved my money.
I highly recommend getting in the shower and thoroughly wet down the suit and go through a full range of motion (whatever you will do while swimming) never judge the opacity of swimsuit fabric until you’ve thoroughly tested this. Trust me I have experience to back this up lol!
@@Loepsie Believe me I wish I’d known. One summer my teenaged daughters wanted to make swimsuits. My sister lived next door and had a pool so they needed great suits and since there were 4 of them I asked would you like to make swimsuits. I urged them all to line them but the lining was kind of an ugly pinky brown that was supposed to be called “nude”. So one opted out, the same one that never did a buttonhole on her skirt waists and just used a safety pin. She was always to excited to wear things she made and always had bits left undone. So it was a family party and all the extended family was there and she jumped in with all of her cousins. Then one of her sisters whispered in her ear and she came to the edge of the pool shrieking “Mom bring me a towel”. So I did and she made me hold it up so no one could see. She was so angry and said “you never told me it would do that!” . Her suit was a dark plum colour so I was surprised that she said it was showing thru. But it turned out it wasn’t light shrinking through tires was that it showed colour through it was the texture. Every little bump and line showed through. She had a tiny flat mole on her upper hip and it looked like a big wart. So I learned that day to give any suits a good wet test before going out in public. 😖
If the vertical length keeps bothering you, you could always cut the top of the straps and attach some more length there, leaving them long so you can tie them closed at whatever feels comfortable. That would give you some more overall length in the suit as well as a bit more room in the armpit.
I think this is one of your best sewing videos yet! I really appreciated the advice you gave about how to work with this kind of fabric, what order to sew the fabric layers in, how to adjust the pattern, and even watching you figure out how to work with the materials you had and how to course correct when something didn't go quite as planned. Really helpful and fun video!
I agree, copying a design or garment just for your own personal use. If it to be sold then no it is not ok. Large corporations doing it is very wrong. Likewise the og swimsuit is being changed. You used a different fabric, it is a simple design as well ie a one piece with a draw string tie.
WOW! It looks just like the promo photo, you really did just make it yourself! (And got to do some stash busting with the lining and elastic you already had! Win/win!) As a crafty person I definitely suffer from but-i-could-just-make-it-myself syndrome (which, while not exactly untrue, does lead to A LOT of half finished projects tumbling about my house) Congratulations on your follow through 💚💚
Such a gorgeous pattern that will definitely add to fun summer vibes! This swimsuit suits you, Lucy, and I am reminded of scenes by the Italian coast, when I saw you show the finished garment. ⛱️🌊 Hope you enjoy wearing this with a glass of lemonade and your favorite beachside snacks!
This is a such a great video. I love that you created that style from this suit pattern. I have done a few things like this. Very challenging. You make it seem easy, but I know that it takes a belief in your talents and trial and error. I just cut and sewed a dress using the leftover fabric from one of my swimsuits I made. It makes a great matching cover up and would be great on its own. You could make a short skirt or short cover up with your beautiful fabric. I rarely see people make hack patterns and demonstrate so clearly as you have here. Thanks for sharing.
The swimsuit looked awesome! I don’t have the confidence to make one myself! 😅 Replicating another design for yourself is what I decided to do for the dress I’m making for my birthday!
(I've always wondered how it works when you buy a pattern online, so this is great, thank you!) Lucy, your swimsuit looks great! I don't think I have the guts to take on a project like this, but you have mastered it. Good job! Hugs from the southern California desert, MK 🤗 ❤️ 🌵
I feel like adding extra elastic at under-bust should help with fit. Like a 2,5 cm wide elastic that goes around entire torso (or wider if you feel it isn't enough support), similarly to how many bikini tops have elastic at the bottom. I think the reason for elasticated neckline is to reduce the sagging from weight of chest, I know that I need that when working with lycra (but then again. large chest), I know swimsuits with no extra elastic around armholes or chest will not stay on me properly once they get wet. As somebody who always want to add foam cups for support, seeing your process was fun. Looking forward to see if you end up making some bikini's too.
I would have sewn on the ruched part onto the fabric over the bust as a base, then cut away the unwanted layer once it was in place. If that makes sense. Like a lace insertion where you cut the fabric away after the lace is sewn in position.
Looks amazing! Mood also has a milkmaid dress with the ruched bodice that could have maybe provided some extra instruction on how to add that to the bodice, in case you might find that helpful for future projects. But I’m so proud of how you puzzled it out! 👏🏻
This is so impressive, you are truly talented. I also admire your patience while doing these sewing projects. The fabric is so beautiful as well. Thank you for another informative and entertaining video, have a great day!
Suggestion for making more room in the straps, seam rip the tops of the straps and add a tie/bow detail? I did it at the sides of my bikini bottoms when they didn’t fit anymore and everyone thinks they were supposed to look like that 😂
I'm fiddling around with swimwear as well, right now. Had a pretty, but uncomfortable swimsuit, which I cut apart at the underbust seam, to turn it into a bikini. When I tried it on, after cutting the seam, there was a 2 1/2 inch gap between top and bottom. No wonder, it was so uncomfortable! And I'm just 172cm/5'8, so only slightly above average in height. I added wide, soft elastics at the top and bottom and now it looks and feels really good!
Love this sewing project especially the ruched area it looked difficult since you mentioned you are a novice at swimsuits, but you nailed it. The print although very feminine also reminds me of the "four Seasons" by Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Only now its a Loepsie Original. I'm learning to sew its been a couple months since I started, so these videos are fun and very informative. plus I love your vintage inspired style. Thank you.
So impressive! I do wonder if you could include if you use different sewing needles for different rojects or not. The tips on working with stretchy fabric were really helpful
I think if you wanted to take us along for the journey when you experiment with changing the shape but you don't want to show it on you, it would be cool to see it on a mannequin so folks can see how they might adjust the lines for themselves at home
You make it look so easy, that maybe I will start my swimsuit too, since it is waiting like 10 months now 😂 your swimsuit looks amazing, except the small "mistakes" you point out 😊
Hi! Mocht je het cup gedeelte opnieuw willen maken; ik heb een patroon voor een jurk met precies dezelfde cup stijl, ik kan je hier wat van de instructies over laten zien om het geheel wat meer uit te laten zien zoals op de foto :)
If it should be longer in the body and at the armhole, maybe you could add just a little bit in the shoulderseam. Or do you think it will then be too low cut?
with all the extra fabric, a short, little, reversible sarong might be cute. You'd still have enough for a bikini, and the coverup would work with both.
My toxic trait is that I watch you make clothes and think, "Yeah, I can definitely do that. It looks easy," after never having sewn in my adult life. 🤣
Lovely suit! Always, always, always check the suit out by wearing it in the bath tub or shower and getting wet in it. Someone I knew when to a church pool party wearing a gorgeous hand knit swimsuit. Within moments of being in the pool, the suit stretched out so much is was like a huge baggy sack. Her husband came to her rescue with a big beach towel and maneuvered her out of the pool, but due to her swimsuit malfunction she missed out on all the party’s fun.
When it comes to copying designs, I truly find that it depends on the source. First, is it a historical design? Second, is it a small indi creator? I don't personally copy in that case - uplift don't burry. Big fast fashion house however? Copy to your heart's desire - absolutely do burry them.
and also quite a lot of the fast fashion corporations steal the original designs from the small creators, it may be even worth to try and find the original source, make one piece for yourself and "advertise" the original creator instead of the large company. (But a simple one-piece bathing suit is probably not a very unique design...)
Well done! This bathing suite fits you like a glove! Could you add a bit in the crotch area, where no one would notice, if it is feeling a little short?
For future reference: if you want to model stuff like this in the future you can go full 80's with it and put black leggings underneath 😄
Ohh, hadn't thought of that! 😂

The navy blue lining is brilliant- such a wonderful addition to the swimsuit. Gorgeous process.

Super cute! I am going to try replicating my favourite bathing suit in a new fabric. Great video.
Most bathing suits use rubber elastic or clear elastic because the edges need some control or it looks all ripply if you don’t.
Beautiful! If you a lot of fabric left, you should make a beach tote or a wet bag for your wet bathing suit after swimming.
Very pretty! Great pattern for a summer top as well. The rushed bust part is very flattering!

The striped dress you wore in the beginning looks so stunning with your dark hair! Did you sew it yourself? 😍
Thank you! I didn't, that one's vintage 😁
And the green one is exquisite. Fits perfectly.
You must have made that!
Ah, I read further down in the comments that you did make it. Do you find the things you make last better than shoot bought clothes?
It's so lovely
I just got home from arthritis water class!
You need elastic pn neckline. It keeps the suit on in the water
Really liked the video💛 your green dress around 6:27 ls soooo beautiful. Could you tell where is it from?
Thank you! I made that one a few years back 😊

yours, it's therapeutic...love from India❤
The mood patterns always tend to be fairly vague in instructions. Definitely need some sewing know how to work with them!
Did you take any classes to learn how to sew or are you entirely self taught? You make such great pieces!
Thank you! I'm entirely self-taught

Working with swimsuit fabric seems really tricky.
Maybe you can make a swimsuit dress or robe since you had faberic left love your videos
What sort of theead did you use? Anything special, or just a standard polyester?
Just the standard polyester 😊
You can’t copyright fashion, that’s why there’s so many fast fashion duplicates.
This a a very cute bathing suit! Thanks for Sharing
I love my me made swimwear. I hate sewing my me made swimwear.
Well done! This bathing suite fits you like a glove! Could you add a bit in the crotch area, where no one would notice, if it is feeling a little short?
Definitely, that's a great suggestion!
You could insert some cute little ties at the shoulders to give you some more length. I think that would be adorable.
