@kdakuginow the moonwalk came directly from the electric boogaloo in 1979, as for james brown, well his partner bobby byrd said they developed the james brown act back in the 50s when they were a southern gospel act. the huckle buck that brown did was minstrel the spins and splits come from tap the kneedrops and capes straight southern gospel as well as the mike tricks ive heard the joe tex stuff but joe tex came on the scene in the 1960s. james brown was touring all over the south in the 1950s
James was one badarss heart and soul feelin muthafuka damn you can feel the pain and strength in his soul when he belts his heart out I seriously love his art
Mr Dynamite, King of Soul, God Father of Soul, The Hardest Working Man in Showbiz James Brown... I just called him The Greatest Musical Showman of all Time... That pretty much sums it up for me! Saw him live in Tulsa about 68 06 still kicking it, pumping it, screaming it, singing it.... phenomenal, that would be the one, the only James Brown! No. 1
Just check out that voice! Mr. ♪ames Brown people♪ We've learnt alot from you all BROTHERS♪ I'm a white musician who has spent years trying to reach that high notes... Still trying♪ Thanks so much LauraAmiga for sharing. God bless you.
So much of white rock music owes to James Brown and soul music (which itself owes to gospel and blues). Even the "screaming" style one hears in many heavy metal singers (Ian Gillan to Eric Adams and beyond) goes directly back to James Brown. James Brown was the true king! (Check out his brilliant duet with Pavarotti).
I agree, everybody copies somebody else. Yes, part of the feud was over a woman, because Tex recorded a song,"You Can Have Her" when discovering what Brown did. However, I remember seeing one of Brown's first appearances at the Apollo back in the day and his routine wasn't as flashy as in later years.I still maintain Tex, who I saw in the early years, use some moves Brown didn't add to his act until later. Hey, but thanks for memories. The excitement of seeing them then will always be fresh.
Old people only have their memories. I don't mean to burden everybody else with old-timey shit, but it's hard----it's just like yesterday to me. My best friend and I have been friends since 10 yrs. old. I just turned 61 !
Me too, although I was mad at him for all of his domestic issues ! All of his old stuff, I love. When we saw him when this was out, we carried on in a way that I didn't think was me-- and the last time I saw him, I didn't almost the same thing. RIP.
The Godfather of Soul---here's a heart-breaker, for me, when M.C. Hammer was still out there and came with this "Too Legit to Quit." The video was about "The Godfather " was sending Hammer on his "quest" to prove his worthiness to have the "crown passed down to And, I mean to say, Hammer was the only one who could rival James in high-octane moves; fast furious energy, fancy foot and leg work. He was the man. have you holding your breath hoping he don't miss a step.
the passion, the energy, the theatrics...its unmatched...especially by anybody from my genaration...lol the onyl thing james and chris have n common is their last names!
James Brown was THE BEST. BTW ... does anybody remember Wayne Cochran? He was a white James Brown ... blonde hair and all. His band was the C.C. Riders. He did the same things James Brown did. LOL ... he was pretty good, too.
You're most welcomed even though it occurred to me that nobody wants to hear older folks talk about what used to be. It was that the memory was awash in me at the time.
Bobby Byrd(look on Wikipedia) if im not mistaken wrote this,He found james brown....all REAL SOUL SINGERS start off in those back wood, country churches, thats why they sing with so much feeling
this is for any young artist aspiring to stardom. study this man closely listen to the music and watch every gesture in syncapation. they didnt call him mister dynamite for nothing. michael jackson and prince are both copied in his image. james does all the right things that generate excitement for an audience. he learned it in the black church. and i promise it works. of course you must add a heapin dose of talent to the pot.
I gotta set my list straight, but for a fact this song Will be in the top 5----if not # 1. When we were kids we'd go see James Brown after we'd begged our parent's for cheap outfits to go to the concert. It didn't matter, we couldn't go anywhere else cause we couldn't drive---taken and picked up by parents. We thought we were hot shit. Motown Revue used to come thru--you could see all the acts for one price.
I know that feeling. I wrote the story line, as I thought it should go, to Usher's "Climax" but there was no one to pass it along. So, I had to sit on it.
If you want yo woman back you need to stand at her door and say PLEASE 1,000 times and you will get her back, lol.James Brown was always a fool, he was singing without the mic and singing when the music was almost off> King of soul.
I wonder how Michael found out james died and was he able to his childhood idol music and i mean is they are both my top two musical influences Michael is my greatest
the robot came from a 70s dance group called the lockers which spawned the 80s electric boogaloo. moonwalk, slide glide etc. mike made them popular @ motowns 25 when the world discovered him anew. youtube has plenty vids of pre-motwn25 mj look them up. also look up electric boogaloo and the lockers. mike immulated jb jackie wilson and sammy davis. mixed in contemporary moves from the above mentioned sources and you got mike jackson. mike and i are contemporaries so i know what i am saying.
@soulmziklova i was only comparing chris and james because they both are singers/entertainers chris cant touch james brown that was the pt I was tryin 2 make
@soulmziklova you're right...you should be sorry! I just wish I could watch a James Brown video without seeing insulting comments about Michael Jackson:(
if you are so smart please tell all of you tube who taught michael jackson to do all of his dance moves. to my knowledge he is the originator of many dances use today like the robot and is the king of pop which i may add is a form of dance which stated with him so please tell us who taught him all these moves and tell us why michael gets all the credit for them
Oh, excuse me,(good fun), but I've got to get in on this one, because you all are off base.Moonwalk is from electric what? Try Vaudeville, mistrals, etc, it wasn't moon walking then. Brown's moves, working the mic etc came directly from Joe Tex's early stuff. He accidentally lost control of the mic and used foot retrieve. He perfected timing falling to floor the one legged shimmy way before Brown. I remember the feud btwn them when Brown tried to take credit for years afterward.Again lol.
james brown claimed tht he originally discovered mike in chicago at a talent show that he sponsored. he visualized mike as a mini-jb. this doesnt diminish the talent of mike jackson. mike took the robot and moon walk from the electric boogaloo of the lockers as well as the robot and gave it a world-wide audience. so much so that many believe falsely that he invented it. until his death mike was a near carbon copy of james brown and jackie wilson combined. he admited as much himself.
@kdakuginow now that shimmy thing he did that might be joe, oh and the feud my pops told me the feud was over a woman. james shotup joe tex club or something over that stuff.....everybody copies from everybody in show business. both cats come from the chuuch, i have seen folk do everything that james brown, joe tex, prince, michael jackson, little richard and the nicholas brothers all and some done in the church including flips. lol! theres a video on youtube of a cat doing splits in da chuuch
@TBryant20 thats true but u cant say he wasnt influenced and he does dance unlike all the other singers who have all this crap they call videos sometimes i feel bad for kids my age who dont listen to this and im 15

James Brown does not show the emotion and the drama that he showed at the TAMI Show! Plus at the TAMI Show he had his band and all of the Famous Flames with him.
I looked at the short of ET talking about Sly living in a van. At the end, they said that Sly reportedly sole his music rights to Micheal Jackson---for $1m. Please somebody, tell me that's not true ?
James Brown the first man in my generation who sung a soul song with great spiritual soul power.
James Brown Please Please Please is a tune he made famous do not need the flames . In person James is always the head liner show.
I never saw him, or mj in person; but if I could have had the chance, it would have been James Brown. I think He was a great artist!!!
Master performer. If you dont know James Brown you dont know music.
