Fantastic to hear Ewan Bleach and John Doyle playin clarinet and sax. These guys bounce off one another and really compliment the fantastic talent of the others in the band . They are firing on all cylinders playing this toe tapping rag. Love it Loveit.
I keep coming back to this. I love Tuba Skinny and I love the girl in red dress having so much fun! Would love to see them both at the Spotted Cat and dance along! One of Tuba Skinny's best videos. Life is great!
Dallas Rag was first recorded by the Dallas String Band in 1927 and is the most famous of the old time mandolin rags. Amazing what happens to it in the hands of a great band like Tuba Skinny!
What a great version of Dallas Rag, best I've heard from Tuba Skinny. There are super solos all round but listen at 5 mins and 16 secs when the band steps up a gear for a rousing finale with Todd's driving tuba lifting everyone to new heights. They all seemed to enjoy it, with Shaye playing catch with her mute and Robin loosing a thimble or two in the excitement.
Without a doubt, this is one of my FAVORITE videos on RUclips, right up there with JK Wedding. Everyone is having fun, especially the girl in the red dress. The band is pure #1 American 20s jazz band, all enjoying the dance scenery in front of them. It dosen't get much better than this!
One of my favorite Tuba Skinny videos. Not only because of the great version of Dallas Rag, but because the band is really enjoying themselves. Robin and Sam are really grooving on the percussion duet. Robin is right when he says at the end, "YEAH!". I saw them this past Friday night at d.b.a. and they were great as always. I enjoyed talking to Robin, Erika, and Shaye. Best band in the land.
I sometimes wonder if the dancers in these videos even know that the videos exist. There's a video entitled "Tuba Skinny - Give Me Some" where half the comments are about the dancer. I wonder if she is entirely unaware of her internet fame.
Great video of a GREAT moment !! Thanks ! Much appreciate all the savvy comments; they deepen ones grasp here .. I concur all around. So good to see Shaye & the band enjoying it all .. of course it takes really fine individual skills and close listening to one another to have it come off so loose but organic. Also, times like this the crowds involvement feeds back to the band. Wish I'd come across Tuba Skinny sooner .. they're good for the sole.
Hi Tuba Skinny, if you're reading please record a version of Dallas Rag on your next album and we'll fly back from the UK to get it at next years French Quarter Fest!
If there is a better sax player than Jonathan Doyle I haven't heard him. He can play any style of jazz, and if you've heard Tuba Skinny's new CD, Blue Chime Stomp, he proves he is just as proficient at R&B style 1950's swamp pop.
+Junior Samples Sorry, but it´s Tomas Majcherski playing tenor on that CD, Mr Doyle is much better, especially on tenor sax. He should quit TS and start a band of his own. Just my 10 cents
Anders Lind Read the liner notes on the CD. I realize Tomas plays some tenor sax on the recordings but Jonathan plays alto sax on that CD, particularly on the R&B numbers. Listen to "Broken Hearted Blues". THAT is Jon Doyle on the two sax solos and that is an alto sax, not tenor. And you are a little late to the party recommending that he form his own band. Check out "The Thrift Set Orchestra" on BandCamp and RUclips. He's had that band for several years now.
Cornet. It is not a trumpet. If both instruments have exactly the same length developed, the conical bore of the cornet is wider (About 110 mm for the trumpet and 120 mm for the horn) and the position of the pistons are 60 cm from the mouthpiece for the trumpet and 72 cm for the cornte. The different development and drilling of the cornet make that this one has a different timbre with more harmonics.

Wow! Just WOW! And some interesting dance moves from the slim lady in pink...

I've never seen musicians have so much fun. I love the way Shaye arranges on the fly.
It's nice to see younger ones dancing to this stuff!

Dancing to Tuba Skinny live, oh yes, officially on my bucket list.
Tuba Skinny is the genuine most fun band in the land!
I want a week's holiday in New Orleans. Do they do B&B at the Spotted Cat?
The dancer in the red dress is awesome, too.

The guest trombonist sitting in is the Swedish band-leader Kristoffer Alehed.

Shaye has musical genius. I can hardly wrap my mind around seeing what she plays but I hope to live to find out. Belle Chance!
