- A new and improved transfer of a film I originally uploaded in 2007.
A film made by Ronald H Riley and associates for The Department of Trade and Industry.
BFI Database: The work of the coastguard as a co-ordinator of search and rescue operations, made to mark the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the H.M. Coastguard Service in 1972. Several coastguards describe the aims of their work, the types of rescues that they can be involved with and their thoughts on people using small pleasure craft. Looks at various aspects of a coastguard's job. Reconstruction of a rescue following the various procedures the coastguard follows after receiving a report that a small craft is long overdue. A mariner gives an account of how the coastguard helped him to navigate his vessel into safety in thick fog using radar. Shows how auxiliary coastguards and other services can provide help to the full-time coastguards. The coastguard ship the 'Miranda' is seen at work providing weather reports and keeping track of fishing vessels in the North Atlantic. Shows several reconstructions of shoreline rescues: a one-man cliff rescue, a search and rescue mission using lifeboats and aircraft after two vessels are reported to be in distress and an operation to rescue two missing swimmers. Appeals to the public to be vigilant and to help the coastguard in giving as much useful information as they can.
This is a brand new digital transfer of a vintage 16mm library print and is presented here for the first time complete.

Another great COI Film.@ ephemeralfilm looking forward to your next PIF update.
I would quite happily bring back the pre-1924 Coastguard, which was responsible for "chasing smugglers". I would also give them responsibility for fisheries protection, to create a US-style multi-mission Coastguard.
SteamboatWilley run you buggers!!!!
"Oh Bugger it's the coast guard"
Brings back memories of my father who was a coastguard in the 70s and 80s😊
